He's a liability at this point and although he's only 28 his performances have a distinctly "we gave a long contract to a guy who should be retired" vibes.

Looks done at AFL level.

There is some good news to be had though.

We only have 15 players on the list (mostly in the senior team) his age or older.

So nothing to worry about.

Dahlhaus has shown a lot of heart to still be playing at this level; he isn't super quick, he isn't super clean with his skills, he can't kick further than 40 meters.
He does - when in form - put his head over the ball no matter what, and is a genuine scrapper.

However when he is down on fitness he is next to useless to us.

I'm not sure he'd get a game at any other club in the comp.

Has had some good moments with us, but he is overdue for a spell in the VFL and in fact probably shouldn't have been selected for the senior team at all so far in 2021. Close has gone past him (I reckon Close is better than Miers too, but I'll save that argument for a different thread).

Meh, I have no issue in principle with us retaining our older players or recruiting older players in service of a premiership tilt so long as those players are up to standard. I *do* have issues when particular individuals within that demographic lack the requisite quality but are inexplicably gifted games anyway. And right now Dahlhaus falls in to the latter category.

While I agree wholeheartedly that he’s battling badly at the moment and should be first out this week, I think calls of his end are a tad premature.

He has a go, I'll give him that, but he seems to be unable to noticeably impact a game or the scoreboard, and that seems to have been so for a good many games now.

There are blokes like Gary Ablett Jnr who can still contribute after slowing down due to age or carrying niggles as they have elite ball use and match awareness, sadly for Dahlhaus he doesn't fit this category.
Considering we brought him into the side for his defensive pressure inside 50 he isn't providing enough to warrant selection, his tackle count thus far this year and last year were well down on previous years.

Why? Like Baudolino above you mentioned, he's been poor for a while now. He was mostly insignificant last year as well, and has now gotten worse, so it's harder to ascribe this to a patch of poor form than it is the regression of a player in the late stage of his career.

Someone mentioned he needs pregame treatment to get through games, so it may be a time very soon that he will be out and managed. Then we will all be satisfied.

If that's the case, he should definitely not be playing. It's not like he's Patrick Dangerfield who can still be damaging even when hobbled.

I thought he was the supreme tackler of the forward 6, why desert the Dollhouse ship now?
Plays like a backman up fwd, isn't that what most of you guys wanted?

His body is clearly battling. He is nothing like the player he was last year (17th in B&F). Get him out and get him well and see what happens.
