And the feelings mutual from me.

His commentary for the first 1.5 quarters was incredibly biased and his facts and "insights" were based on nothing. Extremely pro essendon even though at one stage we were trailing by only 6-12 points.

Could someone confirm or deny that Darcy wanted to be on the Richmond board not too many years ago and we told him to look elsewhere?

He's an imbecile of the highest order, his lack of general football knowledge is telling and he has no place in the commentary box.
I like it when people hate us. It's long overdue. Means we're on the rise again. A bit sick of being felt sorry for. We are richmond.....^&%$ the rest!!!

THESE guys .. Malthouse, Darcy, Ling, Roos etc. opinions are based on years and years of their clubs destroying us on-field. The wheel will turn eventually but there is plenty of years damage to repair.
I heard B. Brownless speak about us one night at a gig three years ago and it was plain disrespectful about the club and its playing list. But when they've been handing it to you year after year, what view is he supposed to have. We beat the Bombers, the opinion of us would start to change.

Are you saying that you hate the Richmond Football Club aswell?:p

But seriously, we were pretty shit in that first quarter so I'd hazard to guess it was warranted. I go to all the games in Melbourne and I only watch replays if we win so normally the commentary is in Richmond's favour;)

I agree about Eddie. Love having him back on fox footy, really gives you the excitement of the game. Why Lloyd isn't on TV is beyond me. Easily the best special comments man going around. I also like Dunstall, it's very interesting listening to him comment on Hawthorn. He's usually the most critical of the Hawthorn players actions yet he appears to be still quite involved with the club and has better insight into their players than other commentators.

Richo could learn from this, he has the insight into the club, yet like all of those channel 7 ex players, are concerned with keeping their "nice guy" image to come out and have a whack at certain players.

Watched On the Couch and thought they were very tough on Deledio. You could pick out a mistake on any player that played on the weekend and make them look bad, why they decided to choose the man who was clearly best on is beyond me. Worth noting that Healy's been one of the big Deledio supporters over the years, Sheehan always felt (and he had a point to an extent) that Deledio didn't do enough, Healy would always point out he had to play that quarterback role because (at the time) he was the only elite kick who could handle that position.

Back onto Darcy, I'd rather a commentator that dishes out criticism rather than appraisal even if it is overly harsh. I don't really understand why people want commentators that are friendly and say that every player is giving 110% effort rather than putting players and teams on notice. Anyway that's just what I prefer when watching Richmond or any other team.

tl;dr I'd rather a commentator tell me that Richmond can not win finals with guys like King/Jackson(admittedly he played well on the weekend) than a commentator that tells me how fantastic Deledio and Cotchin are.

Am I the only one that actually likes Malthouse?

Yeah he was Collingwood so we're meant to hate him but he is close to (if not) the best coach of the last 20 years. His knowledge of the game and just about every listed player is fantastic (as you'd expect). I find him really interesting to listen too and he seems to have chilled out a bit since their flag in 2010. Seems much more relaxed and likeable. Maybe it's just on radio that he comes across that way.
He's coming last in The Age tipping. His knowledge isn't as good as many think. Being a good coach and being a good opposition analyst are two very different things, and to be good at special comments requires the latter.

Quite right Bo...if Malthouses version of special comments is to bring up Collingwood players as shining examples and then refuse to criticise any of the assistants that worked with him (because it reflects on him), well why the **** bother. Get him off.
He was happy enough to assassinate Brad Miller on Sunday, can't wait to hear him do the same with a Collingwood hack. Start off with Harry O and Nick Maxwell !!!
There was absolutely no need to say that about Miller, the blokes played 150 odd games and gotten the best out of himself, way too harsh

Luke Darcy has evidently had way too much positive feedback in his life.

He spends most of his time practising some kind of "Blue Steel" look at the camera whilst saying that some player "....really has to stand up tonight...."

I am glad others have picked this one up, his Saturday night performance just about did my head in.

Cometti used to be great, but I reckon he plays too much on his 'Comettisms' and does them too often. It's all about him now, which is a shame, because he is actually a terrific match-day caller.
Blighty? He's a different cat, but you know what, he at least offers something different. Sometimes it's imposssible to even understand what he is trying to say and sometimes you think 'Wow, I never would have thought that, but you've nailed it'.

This "hatred because we're becoming a force again" stuff is crap.

They don't rate us, or care to look too deeply into our list, because there hasnt been much to rate or look into for the last 30 years! Until they are proven otherwise by consistent performance and september action, it's not going to change!

I don't think Ling has much consideration for Richmond either.

As for Darcy, most people ask " Who the **** is Luke Darcy?"...Who cares what he thinks.
Dont mind Ling. I don't think he respects Richmond and its evident he clearly didn't when he played.Fair enough too.

But as weeks go on he has been growing in fondness of what this team is about. Pats us in the back when due, kicks us up the arse when due.
I'm fine with that.

I reckon Mark McClure is the best going around. No bullshit about him.
Has no qualms in handing out criticism when warranted, but notably he will give it to Carlton, blokes he's worked with, mates, and people who appear protected species.Hes also just as quick to praise aswell and just makes a lot of sense.

Yeah good one. :thumbsu:
The good thing about him, at the moment, is that is only on in small doses, which is great because he is all those things you said. As soon as he starts appearing too often, his style will become grating.

Agree 100%. Look forward to Wednesday nights because it's refreshing but as you say if he were in say 3 times a week or for an hour it would get tired.

Haha I was gonna change it when I read it but cbb (sometimes it's a love/hate thing between the RFC and me though :p) we weren't great in the 1st but we weren't as deplorable as Darcy was trying to make us out to be. I don't want commentators to blow smoke up our ar$es but there needs to be a balance and he wasn't giving us that, it was as if he was willing and hoping that a blow out would happen.

Agreed on cometti! I cant stand him anymore.. I find his one liners cringeworthy:eek:
Blighty is cool I reckon. When mark riscuitto was on 'open mike' he attributed Blighty as the key to the footballer he became and also commented that he was the best footballing mind he had anything to do with :thumbsu:

Most sensible post on the thread, as if they hate us, we've quite simply been an irrelevance, thats why early evaluations on where RFC was at were nothing more than a cliched defence is no good like the kellaways and brent hartigan were still clearing the ball from defence.....it will continue to be this way until we break the mould:eek:

David Parkin is another one I don't like. Always changes the subject when there is a Rich, one conversation. Nearly fell out of my chair last week when he actually complimented the Tiges on league teams and tipped us.

Pretty simple with all these recently retired stars. They have played against the worst of bad Richmond teams over the last 10-15 years and therefore understandably have no respect for our club.

Some of the more experienced commentators that have seen even played v the great Richmond sides are more positive with where we are heading.

There will be nothing better than when we do make the top echelon again and see the Darcy and Kings eat there words

So does Gerard Healy. If anyone was watching On The Couch just then they will understand. Firstly rambles on about how Watson is a superstar, played a great game, stood up in crucial moments etc which is perfectly fair enough, he did play well. He also made quite a few shocking errors though.

Then he picks out a bit of vision and criticises Deledio for not handballing with his right hand. What the ****??? Plays just about his best game for the club and all Healy has to say is that he should've handballed on his other side (maybe should have, but was under extreme pressure). Just about the one mistake he made all day. Absolutely bewildering.
the thing that shits me is he arm was being held so how was he supposed to get rid of it? just throw it?
