Alll yours for 2025 R1 + R2, 2026 R1 + R2, 2027 R1 + R2 for LDU + 2025 R4 , 2026 R3 , 2027 R3. Can see it now. Done. Next.
He is a Free Agent and you don’t hold a 1st Rounder.

I’m not sure who your list manager is, but if they’re dumb enough to match LDU going somewhere else and lose out on the top 3 pick as compo they should hand in their key pass.

I hear ya but thinking about where we are and what we kinda have, I can see us matching a forcing a situation not unlike my proposal to go after the best of the non mids to round out our list sorta.

We would just get another midfielder if we didn't match. How many top 3 pick mids who are used to being the best do you need?

LDU, FOS, Sheezel, Duursma, Wardlaw? Don't even count a Pick 3 Phillips or Pick 8 Simpkin.

We need Back and Forward Flankers and Pockets. Different skill sets. I'll take the bevy and force you to overpay in Trade and Salary. We can dream.

You won’t get the bevy though. It’s a fantasy.

You’d take the top 3 pick.

Are you suggesting if the pick is top 3 they should take it? Couldn't disagree more. He was pick 4 himself and an absolute gun. At some point they can't just keep getting picks and have to get better.

It will be pick 4 at best after north finish ahead of west coast and Richmond. They may end up with a player of similar quality or god forbid a quality tall.

The big question will be is if their midfield is set without him.

Sheezel, Wardlaw and FOS would be their starting three. Mckercher on the outside. Powell, Parker and Simpkin as second stringers. LDU in that starting three would give them additional firepower and add to their depth.

I’d do everything I could to keep him.

So they’d pass up a compo pick in the top 3 of the draft in the hope that they get what via trade?

North don’t hold a 1st rounder currently. If LDU goes, they’ll get one as compo, and it’s likely going to be either Pick 2 or Pick 3.

If they match and hope to get something better than the top 3 pick they would get as compo they should just turn off the lights on the joint.

He will still want to see improvement

But yes I think we will show it and he will stay loyal
Showing improvement is an interesting phrase

How much improvement needs to be shown and how do you gauge this improvement
North will improve but at most they will win is 7/8 games and is that enough improvement?

North will be a better team / Club in 2 years time
that should be enough for him to sign but the bottom line will be the $$$
He wont get better at another club thats in a better position in 2 years time than North

He just needs to keep going and it will be what it is

tbh any improvement he just doesn’t want to see us stagnate

Well with that many 1st round talent accumulated over 6-8 years how can there not be any improvement
North are basically 2 years of experience and 3-4 good players short of challenging for finals

I see the LDU draft as the start of your rebuild and he is extremely important to North and North will do what it takes to keep him and the money will be unmatched

Exactly hence why I think he stays

Cos there’s no way we don’t improve

But he’ll still want to see it early on this season

Sorry I misunderstood you. If they were definitely losing him then you take the compo. I thought you were suggesting resetting with pick 3 would be better than keeping him.

Lots of teams have loaded up with 1st round talent and failed to develop them, plus recruiting the wrong players can also leave you short. North need a lot of mature Key position types, so to be successful they have to trade or get them as free agents, it’s too late to give an 18 year old 5-6 years to hit their peak. I just don’t see them being a threat while LDU is there. I’d trade him for a gun KPF in his mid 20’s, Oscar Allen would be perfect.

Oscar Allen is a free agent and they could get him whilst they keep LDU without trading him

Agree the list is still heavily unbalanced but North have recruited 3x 200+cm players in 1st round over last three drafts, in addition to an emerging Comben, with Darling providing some cover to let them develop. 3 of those (including Comben, the exception being Goad as a ruck) are flexible as either fwd or def at this stage. I imagine if we go FA it would be to build the back half and then have free hits at seeing which ones make it/ can replace Darling in a year (hopefully) or two

Agree to a degree.

There's WDawson, MWhitlock, Comben, Larkey, Logue, Xerri, Corr and Goad. All the young kids are 1st Rounders. Wouldn't need too many of them to come good in order to change our stars.

When you combine that with our acquired mid talent, and the fact Duursma, Wardlaw and Urquhart (defensive midfield option) are still to come, I would have thought that's a bit sobering for the Tiges. As we are still nowhere.

Dawson and Whitlock are the future for the Roos down back.

LDU, Sheezel, Wardlaw (if/when fit) and FOS make a formidable midfield quartet.

Take LDU out and it thins out considerably.

It’s imperative he stays otherwise it sets the club back somewhat (and that’s including the thought you might get a top 4 pick for him).

They are on the right track.
LDU re-signing will be massive for them.

Not particularly worried. He's no Sheezel. We need to be rid of this situation that we finish low enough to obtain quality centre square mids who are used to being the best and not having to worry about doing team things.

Good win by your boys though, happy for ya.

Think he will now stay because North look like a side that will finish in the 12-6 range. He should definitely wait until the end of the season because North may crumble on field and he can still leave or they crumble off field and offer him a bigger contract.
