Toast Luke Delaney

It'll be out of him or Lee for the spot on the list if Chips retires. He's stood up his end of the bargain really admirably, and for a player who himself conceded is only of VFL standard, he's done some great work the past fortnight. I hope for his sake he gets rewarded with a 1 year extension.

Why not have both? Not that many tall backs on the list.
If Chips stayed and we kept both I think we'd be wasting a spot on our list which could be used for some more youth...typically in the midfield which seems to be lacking at the minute. If Chips stayed then the tall/KP backs would be Carlisle, Goddard, Fisher, Lee, Delaney...I personally think it's one too many. I think in a perfect world you'd have your 2 senior KPD's (Carlisle, Goddard) and then your two reserve KPD's (Lee, Delaney) HOWEVER as I said it's all about what Fisher wants to do. If he stays, I think either Lee/Delaney have to be traded or delisted, and if Fisher goes then I'd keep them both. Either way IMO 4 would be enough, use the extra spot on the list to improve other areas.

Oh right, I agree with that. Originally you said the two would be up for one spot if Chips retires, that's what confused me.

Sorry mate I guess I'm still recovering from a few too many beers last night :drunk:

With his career on the line he has really stepped up. Great to see. Reckon he has started to realise his limitations and is playing within it now.
Played great on Hawkins. Had bugger all influence even though he kicked 3. Delaney was only out marked once or twice.

I think as long as we have the right matchup for him he will be a real contributer.
He seems to match up well on the bigger less athletic forwards.
Tom Boyd, Tom Hawkins, Tex Walker

He has proven he is a better option on the monster forwards than both Fisher and Dempster, lets hope Richo actually recognises this and uses Fisher/Dempster as the 3rd tall intercept makers which they are more suited to!

I cant believe we cant use lock down key defenders, particularly when we have so many good 3rd up markers and get Carlisle next year. On his last 2 games LD has saved his career and deserves his spot in the side and at the very least to stay on the list.

Fisher and Dempster are 191 anyway we need a big gorilla to back up Jake.
He'll get a one year there's plenty of others that are up for the delisting slots
Shents, Tc, saunders

Very proud of Del.
Ashamed to admit I thought he was done - after an incredibly strong first season with us, he seemed to fall out of favour and looked like he was struggling. Famous last words before we lost Fish and Dempster were that he'd never play again.

Of course, the next week he's in the team and working admirably. And again, against Geelong, was a solid contributor.

Welcome back, Del.

People often complain about so called "spuds & list cloggers" on a teams list.
In reality for salary cap reasons you cant afford to have 10 absolute guns running around in your reserves team. So the term 'depth player' is a legitimate one.
No Dempster, Fish,Lee, Goddard and obviously still no Carlisle.
Cue the call up of Delaney and he has done exactly what we needed him to do for us. Great effort:thumbsu:
If he plays well enough to keep his spot then good on him.
If not, hes still bloody handy to have on the list.

I felt so much more confident having Del opposed to the oppositions no.1 key fwd rather than Fisher or Dempster. Fisher in particular has really been taken ahold of in a few games where guys have kicked 7 goals on him. Not his fault mind you, he shouldn't be expected to play on blokes that are 10-15kgs heavier & 5-10cms taller than him. Please keep Del in the team.

In his first year at the club he was probably our best defender. I remember some stat about him having the most spoils and least goals kicked on him in the league halfway through the season! And this was when we were pretty crap and the defence constantly under the pump. Fists of fury I called him. Gun stopper.

Yeah you're right. It was that he had lost the fewest marking contests.

I really like him and I think that the people that say he has no attacking use are just blind. He's good at the quick handball in the centre of the ground, and he can hit a target if it's 30+ metres. I have always defended him on this board. He's quality as far as depth goes.

He's definitely shown he deserves to stay on our list, he's a dependable defender that can shut down the big key forwards which we need.

With Fisher and Dempster on their last legs and Goddard injured we might need him as more than just a back up defender in the next year or two.

I've watched the replay in detail and kept an eye on Luke's game. He was right by Hawkins all night and gave him absolutely nothing. Also won a couple of key contests including some crucial marks.

Absolutely deserving of his spot and would love to see him stay on next year with his renewed confidence!
