Yep, the chance of them all making it is remote in the extreme. It's exciting right now, but we were excited around 2004 when we had an armful of "gun kids" but then about half of them had their careers derailed by injury over the next few years and didn't have the careers they were looking like happening and others just didn't live up to expectations, while others ended up much better than we probably expected when they were drafted, so it's now time to wait and see and that is half the fun of it, seeing who steps up to the plate. The good thing for me though is that we have a really good number of them and that will create good competition and gives us more chances for some of them to really make it.This is the one thing that I hate thinking about. As much as I'm optimistic about every single player we pick. There's no way every one of them can become an out and out gun, much less even make it into our best 22 in time.
Is there?
We all have high hopes for Ross, Newnes, Markworth, Webster, White, Wright, Saunders, Murdoch, Billings, Dunstan and Acres.
But the chances of all of them making it are surely smaller than winning the lotto? Has any team every had 3 drafts in a row - with 11 players. Nailing each one of them? Not to mention we've brought in Lee, Hickey, Bruce, Delaney, Longer and Savage in the past 2 years via trades. That's 17 players in 3 years.
All the best to them, will bring out a competitive edge for sure.
Time will tell though. Looking forward to it!
