Luke Jericho Recalled- Why?!!!

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

So when you stated he's only played 26 games you weren't insinuating that he hasn't had enough time/opportunity to pull his game together and perform to an AFL standard?

Did you actually read what i said? I explained it quite clearly.

How often does Jericho absolutely obliterate it at SANFL level? He might have one or two games like that a year. Half the time he looks disinterested - AT SANFL LEVEL! Where does that suggest he's got all the tools necessary to bring it together at the required level? I want him to succeed but to be honest he's a proven performer on the training track and far from it when it's showtime.

I couldnt tell you, i very rarely follow the SANFL with any real interest. SANFL form isnt the be all and end all though. Whilst i love it when players are burning it up there (Douglas and Vince), there are also players i can remember who have played absolute crap back there and come back into the Crows line up to play alright. Matty Clarke later in his career comes to mind, did nothing the Panthers, but was his usual tap ruckman brilliance at the Crows. Ken McGregor also didnt exactly tear it up for the Eagles, yet he comes into the Crows and kicks four in the elimination final.

For the record, i dont think Jericho will ever be a consistent match dominator... he is by nature a more enigmatic player... that doesnt mean he cant be someone who contributes something to the team.

Attitude: Campbell > Jericho.

Performance (At SANFL level): Campbell >>>>>>> Jericho

Skills: Jericho >>>>>> Campbell.

I'm not even a Campbell fan, heck I don't think he'll be on our list past this year, but at least the bloke has a red hot crack at it. If you wanna go down the skills path Andy Otten is more deserving of a call up than Jericho based on that assertion, he's performed well in his 2 outings for the Prancers and his skills are comparable to Jericho's whilst his ball winning abilities far exceed those of Jericho.

I dont necessarily agree with you on the attitude level, i think one of the things Jericho has going for him is he busts his ass on the training track. Whether or not the guy ever makes it as a footballer, i think most can agree he gives himself the best chance by making sure he works hard at keeping optimum fitness. With Campbell, im not going to comment on how hard he works on the track, as i really havent seen him training etc. all that much, and it wouldnt be fair for me to speculate on that level. I will just say though, if he were one of the best trainers in the team, he would probably be getting a game regardless of a few of his short comings... van Berlo in his first year is a great example, he wasnt really ready for AFL football, but Craigy rewards effort on the track.

I also wont comment on Otten... havent seen him play. I love the sound of him though. As far as being more deserving of a game... i doubt hes AFL ready at the moment. Give him time, and he'll be a very good player, no doubt.

Use your eyes.

It's not rocket science. When a player, whoever they are makes a feeble attempt to mark, doesn't attack the ball and the body, and jogs after the opposition player with the ball, it sticks out like dogs balls to any connoisseur of football who appreciates that for teams to be successful it needs every player to put in 100%.

Just watch.

As i said, i saw Andrew McLeod pull out of a contest last week, is he not giving 100%?

This sounds like a very subjective criteria, usually implemented based more on personal like/dislike than anything factual.

To put down VB, who gives his all and is prepared to risk his personal safety for the team, while pumping up Jericho says it all for me.

I dont support your Jericho policy, i do however support your van Berlo policy. :)

for what its worth Ian Perrie did all the non-negotiables in football and where did that land him ? apart from delisted he was was constantly bagged on this board...

Haha, yeah, Shirley and Doughty have to be wondering about some of the treatment theyve been copping...

says who !!!

FFS this gets repeated and repeated about Jericho yet he continues to play

For no other reason than it's true. In a team game there are non-negotiables such as 100% effort at all times at the ball and man, chasing, tackling etc.

Why do you think Jericho gets dropped?

26 games in 6 years isn't really continuing to play Cappy

We all wanted to know the reasoning, well here it is:

"Jericho gives us a bit more flexibility and ability to rotate through our forward line. If we need, for example, to give Simon Goodwin a bit more time in the midfield, we've got a forward to go up there and cover that.

"But in saying that, I've seen Luke play some of his best football at AFL level in the midfield and on the wing in particular.

"It's an important game for Luke – not that it's the be all and end all, but it's an important year for Luke and he understands that. It's a great opportunity that he gets against a good quality side."

Neil Craig goes to bed dreaming about flexibility. Let's be honest, he loves the word and what it means in football terms. I for one am tired of hearing it, especially as it doesn't apply. I haven't seen Jericho play good AFL football on the wing, and very little up forward.

"It's an important year for Luke". Yeah, just like 2006 and 2007. He did nothing those years and yet he found himself spending another year at West Lakes.

I think experience may have been an issue. Tippett and Mackay debuted last week and are in the side again. Adding another player like Campbell, giving us three players with only one game each may have been a concern.

Let's be honest, did you walk down to the shops the following day and buy a box of tissues?

Seems you're still not over it.

pmsl this from you?? you throw tantrums like a 5yo kid when any of your fanboi collection gets dropped

You were calling for Craigs head for not playing Meesen, then calling for his head after dropping him when he was exposed as being an A-class gug.

admit it, part of you WANTS him to fail this game so you can come on here and hang crap on the club and Craig for not listening to you. You prefer being an agenda-driven whiner than a fan of the club. Everyone has an opinion or criticism, you just devote yourself to full time professional sh!t-canner.

Andrew Jarman tonight on TV commented that Adelaide's playing stocks must be paper thin if Luke Jericho has got a game, as in Jarman's words "Jericho has not fired a shot in the last 5 years".

But I digress. Unless you're a Jericho fan you are prejudiced.

Mr Jericho has played many a times against the Eagles for some reason. Id suggest 6 of his 26 games would be against us atleast. I understand you have a ton of injuries but now would be a good time to debut a junior surely?
I recall Luke playing off the wing last time & had a good game covering a lot of ground.

I think Andrew may have that hi-lighted part right.

I know that a lot of people think that the younger players should be given more playing time. That they should be fast tracked and that dead wood should be removed.
That is all well and good if:
a) The younger players play well enough to win games. Because if we keep on losing games while these young players get AFL experience, the very same people that are screaming for NC to play the new recruits now, will be the first to turn on the club.
b) Where the f**k is the guarantee that all these new players will become stars in two or three years' time if given more playing time? If even one or two fail to make it, we would become another Carlton of the last 5/6 years. Except that we would never get the concessions that Carlton got because we will never be bottom for two or three years running.

Sorry for the rant but I dislike the complete and utter negativity and arrogance shown by some on this board.:)

Well, thats the end of that then i guess.

For cryimg out aloud, some of you need to grow up. If LJ is no good why aren't you champs lining up to take his place. He strikes me as an opportunist HFF who drifts around and can kick you 2-3 goals a game from 5 possessions. What is wrong with that? Drummond and others expect him to be superman. FTR I am still waiting for VB to tear the league apart. Nice footballer but no superstar just yet.

What has Bryce Campbell done so far? Massie is the other selection this week. I would like to see LJ get an extended run for a change.

If it was up to you Ozzie Brent Williams would still be playing and we would be pinning our hopes on Ian Downsborough. Some times mate people dont play well or dont make it in the AFL and we as supporters are allowed to discuss it. We dont have to compliment blokes who have had plenty of oppurtunities and not made it. Thats why they get paid the big dollars mate;)

Did you fail reading comprehension at school, Freddy? Where did I make mention of Brent Williams and Ian Downsborough? Are you inbibing on a social substance or liquid too freely? Could this be a reason for your failing? For the record Brent Williams had no interest in playing for the Crows whereas Kane Johnson did. Hence the result concerning those 2 picks. We gave up a dud for ID and got one in return. LJ has not had plenty of opportunities, he got hurt early in his career and others passed him by in the pecking order whilst he was recovering. Couple that to the fact he is an athelete, still learning how to play football and you have the reasons for his failing to settle into a role in the team.

I merely want to see him given a few games in a row, not the odd 1 or 2 here and there. I am a North supporter but even I would blanche at having to play under Westies during Rehn and Weideman's reign if I was a young player. As for VB keep pumping up those tyres if it makes you feel good.

By the way I thought we were having a discussion on our players!

Ive always wondered if this is a urban myth or not so ill ask it here. I think it was 2 years ago. The rumor around town is that Jericho was named but turned up to the training rooms only 20 mins before the game was about to start as he was running late with car troubles and eventually took a cab to the game. What made it even funnier is that he had a can of Red Bull in his hand and when the coaches asked "Where did ya get that from", he told them he stopped off and got one.

True or False

What about the Carlton game last year ???

I agree overall he hasnt been stellar, but the most frustrating thing with him is that he has all the skils IMO, he is quick, clean with the ball and a beautiful kick on the run. The guy just needs a ticker and an instinct to win the hard ball and he would be a regular in our side.
