For those playing at home, for the bonus point, after Fremantle forced Hawthorn to bundled Luke McPharlin into the famous ‘Croad-Pick 1’ deal, who did they have their sights set on in the Pre-Season draft instead...and why didn’t he ever play a game for Freo?

Fabian Francis from memory.

Got barred from joining Fremantle from Port Adelaide because the Dockers were found to have breached the salary cap. (This was despite Fremantle winning the wooden spoon also).

Fremantle offered to draft him a year later, set him up to play with South Fremantle in the WAFL. Francis did his knee in his first game for South Fremantle.

Fremantle backed out of their deal to sign Francis and instead paid him out despite him moving his whole family to WA from Adelaide. Francis never played in the AFL again but did become their runner.

Bonus points: Francis was charged with domestic abuse after his career ended to keep in line with other Freo spouse abusers in Jeff Farmer and Heath Black
