I like how Squidda is setting the goal to try and play every game he can this year. Whether it is going to be in the AFL or the VFL, he doesnt care so long as he gets game time.

Personally, I think that he is going to be cherry ripe for the start of next year.

The Grunt Match Report - Rd 3

Speaking post-match, Mitchell said it was the ability to execute individual roles at crucial moments that got the Blues over the line.
“It was a game of two halves with the wind the way it was, so it was critical they we clogged them up in the third quarter,” Mitchell said.
“Everyone played a role today. Guys like Davey Ellard and Tommy Bell were really important in getting the ball deep and also hitting the scoreboard.
“The wins are great, but we have to keep turning up with the same attitude we have for the past three weeks. If we do that, we’ll be right more often than not.”

Squidda looks to have found a bit of form on the weekend. Luke kicked 3 goals in a performance which, from the sounds of it, can be described as being solid rather than spectacular.

I'm glad that Luke is experiencing some continuity in his football. Injuries have held him back a great deal over the past few years so he deserves a consistent run at it. Of course there are many who are itching to see him back in the senior side, but truth be told I'd be over the moon should he manage to play a full season of football at VFL level.

I get the feeling the club has a similar mindset with regards to his progress. Just get the games into him and the rewards will come, in time.

He's doing well Squid - just needs to impose himself on games more before he gets a look in at AFL again.

Yeah I'd agree with that. Provided he stays fit, he'll end up playing a handful of games this season and be primed for 2014.

I believe his pre-season goal of playing every game (whether it's AFL or VFL) is spot on. He hasn't had much continuity so a stretch of games to work on both his fitness and all-round game will work absolute wonders. A lot of players struggle with injury interruptions when they're unable to consistently work on their game, but then when they do they step up in amazing ways.

A few examples of players at our club: Jamison, Henderson, Judd, Walker, Lucas, Yarran, Kreuzer, Buckley (an injury ravaged year 11 & 12 saw his stocks plummet, but we focused on getting him set for the long-term and easing him back, and he's now starting to look like a really good prospect). Granted, some of those players were already established before, but we sometimes forget how badly injury can screw people over.

Really excited about how much he's going to improve when he (hopefully!) has that extended run of games to work on his game, fitness and confidence.

Building momentum but just starting to jump for marks also.

Great seeing Luke taking pack marks but for some reason he also gives away quite a few free kicks in a marking contest although I could understand why he may just be somewhat aggrieved in the majority of those decisions.
Does no more than hold his ground on an opponent and the free is given. Soft.

When will this guy get a game again! He has been playing brilliantly in the VFL, perhaps a match this week?
Probably needs a bit more time in the VFL. Has shown steady progress over the month & a bit of the VFL season, but needs to really impose himself on some VFL games before the MC should consider him for senior selection.

I've noticed that players and coaches (carrots on triple m for example) have stopped talking about him when asked about our future KPP prospects. Do they think he's not going to make it?

Need more of Watson2Mitchell*

Great kick with Mitchell stating he has the confidence to go for his marks again.

One punch that changed it all:Emma Quayle
''Last year I thought I was starting to feel good. I thought I was playing more like myself, but looking back I was just telling myself that. I wasn't going for marks, I was playing like I didn't want to get hurt, but I can feel that starting to go. Now I'm trying to actually play.''

Difficult not to get excited by that highlight package. If he can put togther a couple more games like that I'd love to see him crack in to the senior side.

Not good signs with Luke being relagated to the development league.

He did however kick 3 goals, but you'd hope so in the reserves reserves.

If Mitchell can't even get a game in the 2's then is the club preparing to delist him at the end of the year?

Luke Webster said the decision was made to go with a smaller team in the VFL due to the conditions, which was fair enough. To Mitchell's credit he didn't crack the 'sads', instead he did what any player should do when selected in a lower grade, he went out & made every post a winner, finishing with 4.5, 8 marks, 5 of which were contested.

Mitchell may well be in the gun, but if he can produce a bit more of what he strung together in the VFL for 4 weeks earlier in the season, then he should be kept on the list. It should not be forgotten this season has been his first without any major injuries since arriving at the club.

Has been delisted. Really took a step back this year in terms of form, fitness and application in the VFL by all accounts. A 1 gamer for Carlton is better than 0 games. Good luck Squida.

I'm a bit disappointed that he didnt get more of a chance this year in the seniors.

He came to us with suspect shoulders and had two major injuries in his first 2 seasons. Then when he finally gets a season to show his stuff in the Bullants line up, he goes backwards.

I am probably going to be abused for this again, but it once again seems that our forwards coach hasnt been doing his job in helping out the youngsters.

Your perseveration is bordering on sad.
