Re: Luke Mitchell

Not a great start to his career in Navy Blue :(

All the best in your recovery, Luke.

Carlton recruit Luke Mitchell has suffered a minor setback as he prepares for his first season of senior League football.

Mitchell underwent a right shoulder scope after sustaining the injury at training earlier in the month.

Carlton’s General Manager Football Operations, Steven Icke told carltonfc.com.au that the injury is likely to sideline Mitchell for 14-16 weeks.

14-16 weeks puts him out until the beginning of the season.

Hopefully he gets through his rehab without any issues and plays some solid footy for the Ants, particularly in the 2nd half of the season.

Not a disaster because he wouldn't have figured much in senior calculations in 2010, but it always sucks to see a young kid go down with injury.

Was looking forward to seeing him in action in the NAB Cup, but that can wait until 2011.

Mitchell was impressive yesterday. Didn't leave the track till the very end, did laps all day, took a lot of kicking advice from Judd and just looked very determined.. Good stuff from 25.

any idea on when this guy will be ready to play?

A 14-16 week injury suffered in early-mid December indicates that he may be back to full training by the end of March.

Most probably won't play senior footy at all this season but should play most games for the Bullants. Might miss the first few rounds of the VFL season but wait and see.

Carlton
(practice match v GWS at Manuka Oval, Saturday)

Lachie Henderson (hip) - 2-3 weeks
Matthew Kreuzer (knee) - 6 weeks
Luke Mitchell (shoulder) - 4 weeks

good to see not far away.

Great to see that he's not far away.

4 weeks puts him available from the start of the season which is a huge bonus.

Not that I expect him to play senior footy in 2010, but that gives him every opportunity to have a full season at VFL level to show what he has to offer.

Can't wait to see how he goes at VFL level. As I said, I don't expect him to play senior footy in 2011 but a solid season will hold him in fantastic stead for 2012 and beyond.

Although more seriously thanks for the updates on my man. I've struggled to get down to training this year but now I know the big lad is up and about again I'll put in more effort. Plus it gives me an excuse to drag the missus along to a few Ants games this year

Ratten Q&A
Luke Mitchell already looks like a physically imposing proposition. What should supporters expect from Luke in 2011?

We've only seen Luke for about a week in our program and he really threw his body around, a bit like Earl Spalding in the way he ran around at centre half-forward and bashed and crashed. It was only a week in training, but we've already seen that in his game, so he's one who really excites us for his physicality - for a big man he has a presence about him. And his voice, the boys have called him 'The Twig' after junior 'Sticks' (Stephen Kernahan).
Ratten Q&A

In spite of McCarthy being my 2011 buddy, I'm more excited about "The Twig". :)
