As I said, I'd love to see Astbury or someone else push past McGuane, but I'd like it to happen on the back of some consistent, impressive form at VFL level or even Nab cup. No one has shown anything near enough to suggest they can perform at a level above that of McGuane. Those most likely are in the same age bracket as McGuane.

He actually reads the game quite well , because he is often involved . But he is terribly unco , honestly I think he'd trip over brushing his teeth . For someone who reads the game so well he has terrible co-ordination , absolutely terrible .
All that said I'd play him as a leading FF , because he can actually clunk it and kick from a set shot ( sort of ) but add anything in between and he is rooted .
Agree.
The fact is NO one has put their hand up for the third Tall spot. The way Vickory is playing we need someone who is also defensive to add to the foprwardline, with A Edwards we end Up with 2 players that the opposition can run off.
Its pretty simple. Mcguane Competes and he competes HARD and he will be a lock in for round 1. So richmond supporters, intead of looking for every mistake Mcguane makes, start actually watching what he does and why Dimma likes him up forward. Watch him spoil to advantge in a pack situation, Watch him dive into packs to hold the ball up, watch him chase and tackle..... watch his contested marking. Yes he isnt an A grader and might never be one.... but he is what we have at the moment and the fact is his positives are out wieghing his negatives.
Aaron edwards isnt the answer at the moment.
Astbury isnt the answer at the moment.
Griffith isnt the answer at the moment and will be played down back.
Elton... probably will be the answer deep into the seasons.

Dammit man this thread makes me 'Meh.'
Would prefer to see Todd Elton!, David Astbury! or Benny Griffiths!
Id prefer to see another young Richo or another Roach!!! but the three you mentioned are along way from cementing a spot in the side. People were quick to write Tuck off.... pushing him aside to make way for the "young guns" .... but as you can see it makes no sense to gift players games. Mcguane is doing enough to hold his spot in the forwardline.... and the others have to improve dramitically to over take him.... I mean ffs sake the way people decribe Mcguane on BF you would think he wouldn't get a game at Coldstream 2's..... yet all these talented youngesters cant even knock him out of the side.
Mcguane sets the bar... how high the bar is set doesnt matter until someone can lift it higher.... etc etc...
" He never have to question Lukes ability to compete"
" I love the way he goes about it, he competes... took a number of strong marks down the line today"
Dimma
Get used to it people.... Dimma has spoken.... and basically said exactly what i have been saying.

...Early days yet
Early days yet nut...its only the NAB cup...wait till the real stuff starts......
You mean like the last 9 games of last season where he had 31 marks, 25 scoring shots with 15 goals.... wich equates to 38 goals over 22 games????
Mcguane has the runs on the board..... the others will have to prove their worth ion the 2's.
LMAO - this oldchestnut (no pun intended)
If we were to play all 22 games only against the likes of Footscray, Port Brisbane & Melbourne then maybe.
Shithouse player is still shithouse.

Shit house argument is still shit house. You can't deny him after today. His pre season form would have him behind no one for the 3rd tall role.
Yes, no-one indeed as no-one would be preferable to McGoof.
The argument is valid - pre-season hit outs and meaningless, low-pressure games against crap teams are the only "runs" he has on the board. Bradman v Bangladesh & Zimbabwe. Chris Martin v England & South Africa.
...Finally i get to like a post and agree with it ----------- PhewwwwCome on nut...Mcguane is lucky to be on our list...he fumbles and has brain farts when the pressure is on...havent you heard...he's crap!!!...i tell you...crap!!!...![]()
