he had a good crack yesterday i was pleased with him, should've gone for goal instead of handballing to riewoldt but he just wanted to do the team thing which is good to see in a way

he got caught flat footed and stationary a few times in marking contests but he made up for it with some great marks and that goal on a tight angle after that screamer was magic

i'm happy, hope he can keep it up!

hes always been a bit of a kamikaze, liked to tackle and take a good mark. just like kingy, being up forward his decision making and disposal wont be so much of a hindrance and his strengths could be very useful. even if all he does is become a bloke who pressures the defenders and takes a couple of marks a week, thats good enough in a good team. there are bigger spuds in the best teams just for that role alone (ie half of the saints forwardline under lyon).

what i do want to see is him in for another 3-4 weeks at least. none of this 2 games and youre out crap. gotta give the bloke enough time to settle and become respected by the opposition (who then puts a defender on him, taking it away from triple teaming jack) before you judge if its a success or not.

I say people should stop calling the guy a dud, and give the bloke a go! Keep him in the forwardline for the rest of the year, it's nice seeing him out there again, hopefully he can reignite his career.

I love him, always have. Not the best use of the ball but he has always given presence..
Love ya work Lukey. You try your guts out. Hope your around for a few years yet.
Look what happened to Kingy when he was given a different role.

As i texted you yesterday Pal , first picked all week for mine .

Was always going to crack in and give us a contest . Did all that was required of him .

He'll get away with things against the bottom sides but im under nó illusions as to his long term future , but with our list in the shape it is in with so many doubts and injuries floating around , we need him in the short term and hell ... the carrot is there for him to maybe jag another 12 month contract if he truelly exceeds expectations .

Want to see him maintain the intensity against the suns this week , him and 21 others for that matter
You can say that again

Deserves a bit of a run to prove himself and I hope he doesn't get delisted. Good depth player.

The fact that he can't kick means he should be played as a high half forward and it's important he applies defensive pressure.

Surprised how young he still is.

You know I bet the club has been VERY,VERY sneaky by putting him in the backline for most of his career so that he'd be scrutinized then move him to the forward line to show his magic. Very sneaky indeed. :)

Let's not get carried away with Lukes performance. He was servicable but let's be honest, we played one of the worst teams in the comp and he just did ok. The true test will be against the better sides. Think we'll find Luke terribly exposed again. Will be lucky to survive the cull at year end.

The thing about McGuane is that he gives his all, and at the moment, we need that. My problem is, that everytime he takes a mark inside 50, you wish someone else had the ball - cause you seriously don't know where the ball is gonna go. And as a forward, that's not what you want.

But he's playing for his career, and with King out, we need that competitiveness right now....

Well he clunked a couple of ripper contested marks and sometimes ya just need a chance

true, but Luke's been at the club a long time now and should be a starter in this group. He aint and when guys like miller are getting a game ahead of him he's in strife. Has 8 weeks to save his career IMO, that's if he can stay in the side. Kicking is terrible and makes dumb decisions. A bit like Daniel Jackson actually.

That was as a defender which is a different kettle of fish than playing as a forward....refer Kingy value to the side in front half compared to when he playedin defence. All im saying is give the kid a chance, he has some strengths that just might shine as a forward and ffs dont critique his efforts based on when he was a defender

Meh. Forward or back, still a hack.

Harsh description but I think the bottom line is Luke isn't good enough to take us to a flag. Just doesn't have the smarts or the skills and has been given plenty of opportunites. Playing up forward will expose even greater flaws/deficiencies. ie kicking.

Allways will b a better option than the slow moving miller.

Even though he is strong, he lacks the body mass to crash bam packs like Vickery or Miller. I see him in no-mans land up forward like on Saturday. Did a few good things and had a decent game but lacked presence and impact. Has brain fades down back, but even then i would rather he and Griff swap spots.

I reckon he's worth his spot on the list as cover for injuries and poor form... possibly worth delisting him and putting him back on the rookie list (same argument could be made for Gus if no teams are interested in trading for him).

I didn't have much hope for the McGuane forward experiment but thought if he could snag 2 goals and compete, that would be a great return.

After seeing his game, I think he more than deserves a go against GCS. Competed and tackled well, took a few grabs and kicked 2.2 (dished one off to Grigg and missed a relatively easy one from straight in front from memory - though managed to kick one from the boundary oddly!)

I was also pleased with Derickx's debut - he competed and threw his weight around. From where I was sitting, it looked like he was switched to defence after the first quarter and did well down back too? Did he do any ruck work relieving Maric? (if so, how do people think he went?)

Derickz's debut was largely uneventful and mediocre.
I think a few posters are trying to convince themselevs he showed more than he did, but it didn't really happen.
Happy to give him another game or few to see how he settles and looks likely he will be granted that, but wouldn't have thought his effort Saturday was anything flash.
Hope he turns it on next week.

his role was third tall forward...you critiquing him like he was a sub for Jack...rewind how many marks Miller and vick have taken I50 ea round theyve played and you might reconsider those comments...he was a decent step up from the garbage weve had in support of jack all year...if he can build on that he will make a decent contribution

Is he a long term first team option? No

He was as others have said serviceable against a VFL standard side.

Should he be delisted? That's a lot more tricky.

He's a 25 yr old tall, with 85 games under his belt and who can be serviceable at both ends of the grounds. That could earn him a couple more years as a depth player on it's own.

FWIW I'd have Miller and Post in the gun for delisting, before him. And who knows what will happen with Kel Moore.

derp.. first game in forward line and every one is saying he isnt a long term option people said the same thing about Edwards and Nahas and look at them now
