The chances are we will have both Chaplin & Grimes ready to play Rnd 1,
B: Grimes , Rance , Morris
HB: Houli , Chaplin , Batchelor

HF:Nahas,Griffiths,Knights
F: S.Edwards,Riewoldt,Vickery

Dont Want McGuane

Can't see griff going forward full time yet, most if the off season he has been living down back.

As WA said, I'd be very surprised if Pettard isn't elevated given his off season form.

Knights will need to lift a lot to be starting 22 round 1 (and I was one of his cheerleaders most of the offseason, but his effort Friday was disappointing IMO)

Luke is still a chance because his performance was no better, or no worse, than Edwards, and we are yet to see Astbury/Griff up forward. We really need to see someone step up and demand the role in the remaining games

McGuane has played as a key defender most of his career whilst guys like Moore and thursty have spent extended periods on the sidelines. How would he have gone with some extra support down back? We will never know. He has done some good work playing on the likes of Buddy over the years but he won't get recognition for that on here it seems.

An undermanned Richmond defence has not been the best place to learn your trade over the last decade.

He then goes forward last year. Kicks 15 goals in 9 games and gets zero credit from most again. You can only kick goals against the sides you play against. The fact is he was serviceable. His defensive work playing forward was good also.

Exactly who was available to bring onto the list that was a better option than McGuane if we had moved him on?

Yep he is no superstar but he was the best option available going into this year.

We could always watch the remaining NAB matches and see how the guys play after a few more games...

did I say it was locked and loaded? I actually said they hadn't done enough to confirm a rd 1 role yet, and they would need to do more. Doesn't that imply how they will perform in the next few games??

Did I say I was replying to you? However, I'm glad you agree :)

I tend to agree...early Nab Cup days yet to suss out who has the form to play tall up forward..
On current form i think its Reiwoldt...Vicks...and Lukey...
AEdwards i havent seen anything that justifies his selection...while Pettard...i like the cut of his jib...from what i have seen so far he looks like he wants to play footy...
For me it all depends on Vickery and holding down CHF with consistent form...we can juggle the other forwards around him...

I cant for the life of me see what you seen in the first nab cup game that makes you believe he is ahead and deserves the 3rd spot ?????

I see just fumbles and free kicks that cost goals/ games ----- ARE YOU REALLY A TROLL HAVING A LEND OF US

Wiithout being called deroragatory names for doing so...
I would like to be around when you call Lukey..
with your own posted words....
to his face...sh!t...crap...mcgoof...
I have already expressed my opinions as to why Lukey is my 3rd forward choice...

I saw Cotchin and Lids turn the ball over by foot as well. It's Nab round1, it happens to every player.

Gun, who played better than McGuane last week that can play the 3rd tall role?

He could be useful at CHF with that frame of his better option than Miller and knows how to take a grab I've said this before but if he can get rid of his brain farts he could prove all the haters wrong its a what if though but stranger things have happened.

Unfortunately we wont know because the spot was occupied by that spud, But with all seriousness
Edwards - 1st game with new club new team mates will certainly improve and certainly is more dangerous option
ask yourself this as an opposition supporter which player would be more dangerous Edwards/McGuane

Griffiths- My choice , With Chaplin,Grimes,Rance,Batchelor,Astbury as defence options a foward setup of Riewoldt/Vickery/griffiths as the 3 talls is most dangerous

Astbury - See above for the Griffiths post but interchange names Griffiths/Astbury
This kid is coming back from major injury issue's yet is a far better option than McGuane

Elton - i would rather get Todd Elton playing and getting games into him than anything McGuane has given us in the past. Fools are going on about the 15 goals he kicked agains crap sides that couldnt defend to save themself but which game would of been lost that we won if McFumbles wasnt playing.

as the 3rd medium foward - O'Hanlon,McIntosh even

Richmond Football Club has moved on in talent and people like McGuane cant make the grade - Move him on ASAP

Appreciate the response mate, well delivered.

However my Gun friend, I asked who played the role better, not who in your opinion is a better option.

Griff - appears to be playing back not fwd - certainly did not play fwd on the weekend

Astbury - played back on the weekend, still yet to find a spot it seems, could be a better option but is yet to show it.

Elton - again speculative and yet to play

OHanlon, played ok, McGUane was better

Edwards - didnt fire a shot, literally not a shot

McIntosh - come on mate, lets play funny buggers

How could anybody play the role better when McGuane is already occupying that role mate !!

Vickery,Riewoldt,McGuane,Edwards - these were the only players capable of playing this role and in my opinion McGuane was sh!t & Edwards was dissapointing but as mentione his 1st game at a new club with new team mates

McGoof - No reason it his usual out put

I Dont know how els you can answer this question as its based on 1 game with only 4 people able to play it

I thought thats what people were saying though. Out of the players who had the opportunity, OHanlon, McGuane and Edwards, McGuane performed the best.

LIke it or not, right now, based on 1 game, he is ahead of everyone else for that role.

mcguane is ahead of a.edwards atm, just. edwards hasnt fired a shot. mcguane was better in the all stars games, hence why he is in front atm. simple enough really.

this thread is getting tiresome....

I think McGuane is a decent back up option (not best 22 imo), but he needs to remain only in the forward line trying to take grabs and tackling. He makes too many mistakes to be trusted anywhere in defence or along the wings.

We don't need a 3rd tall in our forward line. Between Riewoldt, Vickery, King, Nahas and then a resting midfielder you don't need any more forwards. It's not like the old days where they plonked 5 tall blokes and a crumber in the forward 50.

If we cop a few injuries then it's likely we'll have to wheel McFumbles out again in the second half of the season, but he's not THAT bad.

dud, delist. seriously guys, id rather see lance franklins left shoelace take the position the this bloke, everytime he touches it i cringe and everytime i see him i wonder why he isnt playing VFL ressies.

There is no doubt that Luke has some intractable inherent foibles. However, he is at least an experienced serviceable back up both forward and back. He is in my view a better deal than brad miller. We cannot afford to lose him if either of our two major forwards get injured. Although everyone just about makes out that Griffiths is the answer he has yet to perform. A few nick kicks. But no grunt as yet. Astbury is a total unknown and both to me are way off so far. The very flawed port Adelaide full forward would be an asset now perhaps? So, I vote to keep Luke and like most I hope that others make the play.

intractable inherent foibles..............................................................................................................................................LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL i liked it!!!

as i have said all along, we need him for depth at the moment which frustrates me because fumbles the ball over and over again and there are far better fringe players..
