Who was the last " once in a generation" small forward?? There's been some very good ones but none that I can recall off the top of my head??
Yeah I understand the point and it is certainly valid. I just think he will end up doing things no one else has ever done before and will end up being a big factor in the midfield.
Andrew McLeod is probably the best case scenario analogy. McLeod was an inch or so taller and certainly stronger but Isaac has the potential to be more freakishly talented and faster laterally. Guys like that can be the difference in grand finals as we have seen.

Has anyone actually traded the top draft pick?

Feel like we might be venturing into "Draft Day" territory.

Let's say you are a Carlton supporter. Would you want your side to give it up for our 3 firsts?

If we have 3 first rounders, then trade 2 in the hope to land him.

Under no circumstances should we be trading 3 first rounders in this draft

I can only recall that time Fremantle traded it for Croad and McPharlin.

I can't remember a time a top 5 pick was traded for just other picks either

Interesting because carlton could take one to the draft and use the other 2 in a super draft year to try and prise a dylan shiel or ollie wines and to them that would be better than 1 pick in a super draft as they could get that extra super mid they are after and still draft a top rated kid. For the record i don't want us to trade 3 picks for 1. I would definatly consider trading lynch + our 1st round pick for a top 5 pick though

Malifice Neese what are the current thoughts of the Carlton Board about Number1/2 pick and are you looking or willing to take 3 picks for 1/2?

SoS would tell you to get stuffed and then thank you for Sloane
Let's wait to see how we go after they bye first
Also my gut is Murphy won't be leaving for another club. If this foot injury doesn't clear up soon he will be more likely to retire :(

Is building your side around a gun key forward a relic of yesteryear? Still feels like some clubs are chasing North Melbourne and Carey of the 90s, trying to find 'our version.' Tom Boyd, Patty McCartin at #1, Tom Lynch (GC) possible trade this year, Tippett

That said, Franklin was handy for the Hawks.

I'd do it to be honest. Even though we're good at drafting we'd struggle to have 3/3 hits and also be able to find spots for all of them to play. Milera is still a couple of bad games from missing selection, Doedee is only playing at all because someone else left. Just picking good kids is only part of the equation. Heaps of other factors have to go right.

Let's say Lukosius goes elsewhere. In a few years we try to get him back. It would cost us more - a couple of top 10 picks maybe. More? Plus a $1m per year to prise him loose.

Get him on the books now, extend him early. Lower yearly cost in the future to keep him because he's already here and is at home. A stitch in time saves nine.

I tend to agree. I’ve ticked maybe because a lot of water to go under the bridge.

It’s a risk, which could flop completely, or could give us a generational player.

Trouble is there’s a fair chance Luk, Rankine, Hately and Rozee all gone before our selections. Best SA draft crop in years and we miss out.

3 top 20 picks makes me uncomfortable, but then it’s probanly not a fair trade unless both sides feel dudded...

There’s a theory going round at present, largely due to the Richmond model, that you’re better off focusing on 5-7 genuine superstars and surrnounding them with roleplayers, than trying to flush your 22 with good quality players, but no superstars, which is where we probably sit at present.

Mixed thoughts on the board mate.

I'd personally be open to it but I'd want to retain a pick in the top 5 in part of any trade.
And I think thats the stumbling block. Though I wonder if you could on-trade 2 of those 3 for that pick 5

Why the Saints used Pick 1 on McCartin is still a mystery to many who had watched him play TAC Cup, and that's was without the added possibility his type 1 diabetes could prove to be problematic going forward.

Nowhere was McCartin ever talked of in the same terms of Lukosius ability or potential wise.

Selecting McCartin ahead of Petracca was insanity. Surely that lead recruiter has been moved on?

Let another club draft him (preferably Carlton, Brisbane or St Kilda) and get him back home after 2 years if he looks any good at AFL level (which will likely be the case). And when has a player ever been traded for 3 first rounders, letalone trading 3 first rounders for a higher pick who is an unproven player?

But remember, we will have later picks anyway - whether as picks coming back from the other club or we can have as many late picks as we have list positions ... Hamish Magic!
Don't believe in Magic...play the odds early picks give you a greater chance of success. In this case 3 chances sets us up for future success quickly.

At this early stage we've got King, Rankine, Lukosiious, Walsh and a few others in the mix there.

I'd be happy giving up the chance to pick one for a guarantee of getting f one of the top 5. Would want another pick at least around 10ish along with 5 for the trade down though.

I have blind faith in our recruiters.

If they decide trading 3x firsts is worth it, I'm in.

If they decide they'd rather take the picks to the draft, I'm also supportive.

They have way too many runs on the board for me to second guess them.

The only area of our club that is truly elite.
