He's a player manager. They're like a used car salesman and con artist combined.

That's a bit rough. I would say more like a a glorified Real Estate agent.

Pickering was doing the best for his client, cant really knock him for that.

No one has talked about Hypocrite Bomber Thompson, he was probably as big a factor for Ablett leaving as was the money.

No surprise to see ME taking ANOTHER swipe at GAJ, this time under the guise of potting Pickers

Pickers did an interview and didn't let the facts get in the way of the diatribe being peddled.
As for your assertion build a bridge and hopefully you can get OVER it.

ABLETT left for money - no other reason
seriously what will it take for people to accept it
his own manager admits they tried to squeeze players out of geelong so his man got more
ablett was dirty on bomber for costing his a brownlow

ablett preferred to be at the logies than with his team mates who were playing a game

lets not cover up the legacy
his legacy as a captain is there for everyone to see

It's been 5 years since Gaz left... I'd suggest that it is time you got over it

A king of spin will continue to spin his position.
Facts and opinions .. easily misconstrued.

The fact is it so long ago now that the outcome and the results of it are almost history. I could imagine us all being more bitter if he was playing atm in a GWS like side. Its highly unlikely now that he will add much to his finals CV while playing for GC.

I hope ablett left for money. If he left for other reasons then that's very concerning. I have a feeling other issues were at bigger play, although not the Thompson one, that only came after the fact.

Given Geelong's success in those Premiership years I'm pretty sure re-negotiating wasn't possible as our cap undoubtedly was bursting at the seams. To suggest we needed to get rid of a couple of players to be able to fit Ablett's contract demands is sufficient evidence to assume that winning Premiership was not Ablett's main priority so I'm glad the club didn't acquiesce to the moneygrabber's demands.

I don't recall hearing players wanting to re-negotiate their contracts when they suffer long term injuries or seriously under perform. It is very self serving to insinuate Geelong were taking advantage of Ablett. If anything Geelong had been paying him overs since the first year he arrived and all because of his name. Just because the tables had turned in Geelong's favour for once from 2007 onwards due to Ablett's rise as one of the best midfielders in the comp, Geelong Football Club is all of a sudden the 'bad guy'? Give me a break.
Increasing his pay by 200,000 to 300,000 or so meant getting rid of a mark Blake. I would of been happy with that.

(zipped for focus)

Bomber had squat to do with Ablett leaving. He was already gone. But both of them cost us any chance in 2010. Our best player chasing an individual award, and our coach on the phone to Essendon.

Why do people still give a shit about this? it's not like it ruined the club.

It did in the long term.
We would have led Collingwood at every change in the 2011 grand final with Junior in the side.
We would have remained competitive with Fremantle the following year but probably still lose.
We would have beaten Hawthorn in the preliminary final with Junior doing his thing.
We would have beaten North Melbourne the year after that.

Junior's absence played a massive part by taking us from the number one team of the modern era to merely a team trying to match it Fremantle, Hawthorn and Sydney.
I appreciate Caddy (Smedts lol) but what Ablett went on to do after he left us would have been surreal had he remained.

Don't give two hoots about Ablett having left anymore but it irks me when a lying, parasitic lowlife like Pickering tries to revise history to promote his contribution.

Oh please this is ridiculous. Our game plan cost us the flag. Ablett was huge that year.

His GONE and has been GONE for 5 years. For PIGering to come out 5 years later shows the lack of class. For someone to come out so many years later is no doubt in a desperate state to drum up business and remind people he`s still around. As for Ablett his clearly no better!!

To put it into perspective, pretty much everyone agrees that Dangerfield has been immense this year, and a massive addition to the midfield. He's averaged 31.4 touches a game, and kicked 21 goals. Fantastic output.

In 2010, Ablett averaged 31.5 touches a game, and kicked 44 goals. Unbelievable output.

Danger is an adequate replacement too.
And we kept Selwood
If keeping ablett meant losing selwood then losing ablett cost us nothing. In reality we dont know if this is the case or not. If the club had been willing to boost abletts pay in 2008 to 2010 ablett just may have shown loyalty back. If this was the case then we could of kept both ablett and selwood. Pickerings assertions throws this scenario up as a possibility wheras previously we thought it was ablett or selwood. Not so sure now.

2013 flag. We win. Hawks dont win. We will never know but keeping ablett could of made us the all time greats and the hawks nobodies. Relative to that we are ruined.
Way too out there.
Would the 2011 team have won the flag with Ablett? Who would have gone if he stayed?
Too many sliding doors, we will never know. What we do know is that with the BEST player in the comp, we lost 08, &. 10.
You can't just add GAJ to our 2013 team of the day and say REVERSE INSTANT KARMA

He is doing a sheehan interview where his job is to speak about the past including the distant past. That is what the show is about.

How is he revising history?

Well documented that Ablett and Pickering met with GC at the end of the 2009 season and a commitment to move clubs was established. Geelong tried to engage them on numerous occasions in 2010 to negotiate a new contract but were told that they "would look at it at season's end". They had no intention of listening to Geelong. For Pickering to claim otherwise is not just disingenuous but a complete lie. The guy is a bottom feeder who's sole purpose is to convince his client to take the money so he can gain the largest commission possible.

What was our game plan? Other than handball happy possession accumulations?

By 2010, our gameplan morphed entirely into high possession/ keepings-off. Bomber Thompson was just not forceful enough in changing it. He wanted more long kicking. He thought their style of play would be helped there, and it would counter the forward presses Collingwood (in particular) was developing. But like I said, Bomber stayed on one year too long. It is my recollection Gary Ablett rebelled against the idea at the start of the season, and garnered the support of M Scarlett. It was an experienced dual premiership side, so the players got their way. The Collingwood final where we got absolutely smashed in the first half. Who was our most prolific possession player in that half? Gazza. Absolutely disasterous. I can remember at the time a fellow Cats supporter next to me saying "but Gazza is keeping us in the game!", and my reply was something like "What game are you watching? We aren't in the game. We are getting smashed!"

(I will stand corrected on my memory on the to-ings and fro-ings of the team re the gameplan debate between Gazza and Thompson, as I'm going from memory. But I'm pretty sure that was it.)

I heard Pickering talking about this last week.
He didn't want to do it.

He knew precisely what mike was after. He wasn't going to be asking about his career. It was always going to be about buddy and Ablett.
Then why did he do it?

The same reason Ablett went to Gold Coast.

Which is fine, but if you want to accept the $$$$, accept the consequences of your decision. This applies to Ablett and Pickering.

I don't know.
Only said mike had been chasing him for ages.

But they don't get paid.
Only Jacko has.
