I would love McVeigh at the club, if we could get him Hodge or Burgoyne for that play 1 year, assistant coach 2/3 year role that would be ideal. Would only need to play 16-18 H&A games + finals.
McVeigh suffers from the dreaded old man disease....dodgey calfs.....sure enlist him in a coaching role but not as a player as he may take claytons spot on the list lol. Seriously tho it was talked about on the 7 footy show last night and they were of the opinion it was a done deal he was going to Carlton.....the money club.

Fagan has mentioned a few times that he and Lynch catch up a lot for golf etc. I wouldn't assume that he's talking out of turn
That adds something then. I thought this was very much out of turn. But if fages and lynch have a positive on going relationship then id suggest its something that was spoken about.

Besides brown, lynch seems like the only past player that seems to give a shit about this club.

He is the complete opposite when he commentates our games, I understand he doesn't want to come off as biased but he is actually biased against us by doing that half the time.

Can't stand him when he commentates us, unlike Browny who is basically our press red for ed.

True, but lynch being overly critical of our club is only the result of him wanting us to suceed.

There was a Geelong or Sydney supporter posting on the Giants board that McVeigh and Mackie to the Giants at the end if the year was a done deal, the only question for both was whether it'd be off field only or not.
I have always been a fan of Mackie. He's still got a year or two in him, plus he brings that Geelong IP.

He reminds me of Andrew McKay going back, not flashy but super reliable and a fantastic team player.

I don't believe that being public with your comments determines whether or not you care about the club as a past player. If that's the case there has been some very uninformed comments made by Lynch in the recent past during his commentary that negate any care this might have created.

I like Lynch. I admire him as a player and for what he overcame. He more than most has achieved his off feild success from the on feild. Which is fine, I don't have an issue with that - that's clever and more power to him.

What I struggle with is his selective "giving back". The club has approached him on numerous occasions to help in both minor and major ways and he's declined. Which he has every right to. There is certainly no obligation to do anything more than he has.

But to use his media presence to put himself out there in this context is just a little self serving, to me at least.

We've never been in a better position compared to the past 3 or 4 years and suddenly he's publicly appealing for something he perceives will better the club? What about the rock bottom of the Voss or Leppas situations? Where was the plea for help then? Where was the offer to step onto the board when we asked even as a temporary position?

If it's got Fagan's sanction, fine. I get it's a tool we've elected to use. But the cynic is me is struggling to assume Lynch is so concerned about the club that he took to writing this article with just that in his mind.

I think he stood outside of the discussion when voss and Leppa were here because he played with them and is quite close.

I can say he didn't agree with the way they ran things and didn't want to be seen to be potshotting them. So better to stay silent or speak in non specifics.

He feels more comfortable with a new regime and his return coincides with some of the old guard leaving.

Cheers mate, you obviously know more than me so I'm glad to hear there was some sensible reason behind it :thumbsu:

Part of me says he doesn't like rocking the boat... which is the same criticism I have of Matthews.

There could have been open letters to Palaszczuk over funding for facilities or a better Gabba deal. Or to Turnbull for funding. Or Gil for being a bit more proactive about various issues including our future and AFL in Qld in general. There's a myriad of issues he could have "appealed" for in the past that didn't finger point at anyone in the club, but he didn't if my (sh*thouse) memory serves.

It just seemed odd to me he chose this as his outpouring...

Good or nefarious, whatever the perceived intention, I think people are reading too much into the motives of the article. The bloke is a football column writer and I thought the approach was humorous. Any writer could have penned an opinion piece about McVeigh going to Brisbane and the fact it was written by a former player means a "Dear Jarrad" letter was an obvious slant to take.
I don't believe the motive was either to be the Brisbane hero, nor a deep seated love for the club, but one of creative writing. There may be elements of love or self servitude, but not the overriding factor.
Equally, it could as some suggest been done as a result of a nudge from Fagan or others at the club, but again, any footy columnist could have been nudged to do so. It's just an article, guys.

He's yours for anything, we'll let him go to wherever he wants to go... unless it's GWS. They'll have to pay up.

He's after another year but is very keen to get into coaching. The money and opportunity is coming from Victoria but I personally think he'd prefer to be outside the fish bowl and being involved in growing the game on a national level. I think Brisbane is a good fit now but if Dew gets the GC job then you may struggle.
