Pure and simple. Hes played at FF, CHF, ruck, CHB and IMO all of 3 games last year has he ever been played in his true position. He has the fitness, pace and athletcism to be a midfielder. Hes great with the ball below his feet. He really knows how to use his body and win a clearance.

His ruckwork today was downright deplorable but we can all agree his around the ground work was fantastic. He can do this without necessarily being entrusted with the rucking duties surely? What does Woosh have to lose exactly. Im sick of him playing safe and by the rule book

Take a ****ing risk, Leave Lynch on the wing for the rest of the year and I guarantee he gets 20+ stats every single week til the end of the year..

The only reservation I have with playing Lynch as a midfielder is that he may get hurt the other way. Having said that if we are aware of this and alter our structure in some way to help him cover his man on the rebound then it just may work.

Id back Lynch in to hurt them the other way moreso than his direct opponent. Its always that case with wingers. Lynch has a big tank and he can run out a game in the middle. Of that there is little doubt

No point in having such a big body playing on the wing.

If you are going to be playing him as a midfielder, he has to be in there to help with clearances.

I actually think that this is a better idea though at the end of the day it also depends how we set up at stoppages and how the coaches define his role.

+1

the beauty of this is that he doesn't need to think - he just puts his body in, gets the ball, and pumps it forward. I still remember the game against Essendon last year when he went into the middle as a ruck rover in the last 1/4 and completely changed the complexion of the match in our favour.

Stupid idea. Needs to play a KPP role, if he cant his a liability no matter how good you think he is around the ball.

Would rather we play Houlihan or Smith on a wing than a guy who takes 1.27 minutes to turn around.

So which KPP role are you suggesting?

FF? CHF? CHB? FB?

You may prefer other people to play on the wing but lets face it, hes a certain starter under woosh - thus do you play him;

- in a KPP role where he goes missing 80% of the game mixed with easily missed shots inside 40 and/or random blazes outside 50

OR

- make do with what he's got and get him into the game ie. contests on the wing.

Not a stupid idea.

Then he wont play an important role in our future. He's no Goddard.

Lynch is a Plug, He fills holes in or team ATM which unfortunatley means he is on borrowed time.

When the guys like Shuey, Houlihan, Smith, Masten, Ebert, S.Selwood, A.Selwood, Kerr, Rosa, Hurn etc are playing a midfield role and Brown, Kennedy and Notte(when he is bigger) are playing the forward roles he will either be utilised as a defender or a Bitsa player.
He has been a great servent of the club but I doubt he will play 250+ games.

Lynches KPP opponants:
Forward- Brown, Kennedy, Notte, Wilson
Defence- Glass, MacKenzie, Wilkes, Spangher
Ruck- Cox, Naitanui, Sullivan
Swingman- Hunter, Schofield, Embley.

Not much chance once the younger boys get 50+ games unfortaunatly.

i first read it as Lynch is a Swinger...?
i guess he is that too, in a footy kinda way.

:thumbsu::thumbsu: Remember in junior footy there was always that one team with the massive steroids **** who knocked the shit out of everyone in the midfield?

Lynch is the Eagles steroids ****

I think he is such a competent footballer that we can play him anywhere he is needed.

If we are struggling to mark it at FF use him there, If we need a big body in the clearances use him there, If we need a back up ruckman use him there ect... He doesnt seem to suffer much from being thrown around so its not an issue.

Wherever he is you know he will always compete and run hard.

I dont think its worth our while at the moment to cement such a player in one position.

Yep good post Bodazoka and a fair sum up of the big fella.

The only thing is if we are building to go forward then maybe its the right time to give him the FF role or some other KP. And build going forward with him where you see him fit.

He is great as you say filling in holes but he is still the best fit FF in our team in my view and we should build our centreline and midfield around the players who are going to be cenbtral to those positions in the future plan. Yep we may keep losing but its no good Lynch filling in holes for now if in 2 years time we say we can't find a spot for you.

Lynch at FF with a forward system and structure could work very well.
At the moment our system is Kick it to Lecras and if he is not free kick it to him anyway.
With Lynch and Kennedy I ams ure we can come up with a better system than that?

Lynch is a whinger?

I thought it became glaringly obvious last season that Lynch was best used in the midfield/rucking, just isn't a natural foward in the Kennedy, Frenchy or McKinley mould. Has a massive tank and bigger roost, love to see him have a few more pings this season.

But that's ok, we've got Kennedy, Frenchy and McKinley :)

I thought we did it a bit better actually on the weekend against Melbourne (one of the few things we did get right). Kennedy took four marks inside 50 and LeCras 0, his three goals coming from crumbing chances, including one where Kennedy crashed the pack, which is exactly what I wanted to see.

Kennedy got four from very hard work, if he works that hard every week he will be a great player. We're getting a bit more confident with him now as well I feel, it's nice having a player who can actually take a pack mark- you feel confident kicking to a contest that he is going to at least get the ball to spill if he can't mark it.

But I agree the role of Lynch is an unusual one, he just goes wherever we need him, and always gives 100%. Has done really well the last few weeks, but do we need a more permenant spot for him? Most players struggle if they get shuffled around too much, and he has played FF/CHF/Ruck/Centre the last two years and CHB before that.

I must say I like him in the centre, just has a mindset to get the ball, but he doesn't always use it that smartly. Bombing it forward is good, but sometimes the better option is a kick out wide or a handball to a free player, Lynch isn't the greatest at this, but what he does offer is a big body in the middle and a booming kick that can be very effective.

Should he play CHF and play Kennedy from the goalsquare? Lynch has a decent tank but he needs to kick goals if he plays here.
