That is to get the incident actually argued with evidence submitted.
It’s a much better system than ticking boxes which as _RT_ has pointed out could lead to suspension. Which would’ve been a travesty.

You're allowed to brace for contact, however IMO the MRO believes that Lynch chose to bump instead of contesting the mark. Had he done that and made contact with Keath it would be classed as no other way to contest the ball and bad luck for Keath.

As for being graded as severe, the MRO seem to label every concussion incident as severe as a means to establish some consistency in results.

As for the comparison with Cameron/Andrews, like Lynch Cameron never actually contested the mark and instead opted to take out the opponent, the fact he did it with an raised elbow is why he copped 6 weeks (IIRC). Lynch will probably cop 4 like Broad did and I have no issue with that, even if Lynch wasn't injured with the foot.

The AFL is going to continue trying to eliminate unneccary head contact where it can, unfortunately there will be incidents like what happened with Tom McCartin last night that are a result of contesting the ball, but when players are not choosing to contest the footy and simply bump an opponent players are going to run the risk

He should’ve continued going for the mark. As you said Lynch should have done. It’s all academic … tribunal agreed with all of us and disagreed with yours and Christian’s assessment of the incident. Sanity fortunately prevails.

Remember it very clearly. Said it was “a football action, and clearly no case to answer”. What struck me was how quickly he just dismissed it and moved on. There was no discussion at all - Robbo queried it - but he basically shut it down immediately and dismissively moved on like the wise elder he thinks he is. This was the same year he'd defended Gaz Jnr three weeks in a row for high hits (and he was upset when he finally got suspended). His partisanship clearly clouds his judgement - and his blithe acceptance of the Stewart sanction confirms that.

I can't watch him anymore.

the MRO has guidelines that say if the player is contesting the ball and in a reasonable way they can be excused from s**t like this. dumb *s like me watched a 360p youtube video, rewound a couple times and figured out that was the case here in 2 minutes

the MRO only sends this stuff through to tribunal coz 1 he probably gets told what to do by the afl gods above 2 theatre as groupie said and 3 to avoid backlash when he inevitably *s one up too badly coz his dog ate the rulebook

Hurley faked high contact during the Dreamtime game after Lynch had fending him off with contact to his shoulder.
