It is time Garry Lyon took a stand and became the president of the club. Not good enough to hide behind his media comittments. Jim dealt with more and still gave it his all.

GL is not the answer.
We need players....pure and simple. We need some strength in hard bodies. At the moment we have too many boys trying to play a mans game.....that's why we cannot lay any tackles at the moment.

We do not have any core strength in the bodies.

Some more time in the gym.

West Coast toyed with us....as will all the stronger bodied teams ie Pies ...Hawks etc etc.

Not talking about our onfield performance, I am talking about the club in general, and its problems that have continued to plague us. Jim did a great job but soon as he had to step back, lets face it, the club has been let down by both the administration and board. We need a strong leader and that is not be disrespectful to the current board, but they have been overseeing a trainwreck.

I think the Board have done a good job in recent times. It would be unfair on them to give all the credit to Jim Stynes. They all played an important part of our off-field revival. Plus, Stynes seemed to have the utmost confidence in Don McLardy, so if it's good enough for Jim it's good enough for me.

I don't know why people always expect Lyon to step up and become involved with the club in an official capacity (a few years ago it was to coach, now it's to become President). He can do whatever he chooses with his career and life. He has no obligation to help us just because he is a former captain and media identity.

Then he should either make an effort, (not run in for a few months), or butt out altogether.

If the club asks him to assist like they have in the past (2007 coaching selection panel, 2011 football department review), then isn't it a good thing that Lyon has been willing to help? Would you rather he say "No I won't help you in this time of need"?

He doesn't just walk into the boardroom and say "I'm gonna meddle in the clubs business because I feel like it."

If he did, they'd all melt spinelessly probably. Is there anyone on the board who actually has any footy club experience?

I think you are missing the point a little stickman. What is it that the club is struggling with off the field these days? Energy Watch was out of our hands. We are in an excellent spot financially, the best one we have been in decades. We now train at a state of the art facility and have a strong working relationship with Casey. We are doing good things re: memberships and we are up around 33,000 at the moment. What more do you want?

I couldn't be any less critical of Lyon if I tried, although he was part of the selection process that got Bailey. For some reason there is this perception that Lyon butts in and doesn't do enough. Why? The only time he is involved in the club is when he has been asked, otherwise he stays out of it and I respect that. He put his hand up over the summer to help out Jim, something we would have all done had he asked us.

As someone said earlier in the thread off field stuff is the least of our issues. We need more personnel ON the field to get us to where we want to be.

Back in February Greg Healy apparently joined the board in a ‘casual vacancy’ capacity - what that exactly entails I'm not sure.

He doesn't show up on the club website as a board member but that may not necessarily mean anything.

McLardy:
Greg will have a specific role in overseeing all aspects of our football department, but will also add depth to the business acumen of our current board
