No, the lock down game plan has just been woken up to

I think when an easy game like Melbourne @ MCG comes up, the Dockers will be able to try some new things to use against the bigger teams that play there
No, we just didn't have the cattle to implement the game plan.

Too many people re-living the GF, (where the gameplan was fine but we didn't take our chances and they couldn't miss), and then drawing the comparison to this game.

It is called depth, Freo need to finally get some. Sadly it will not happen under Ross Lyon

I really think some MCG practice against a lesser team will be better for the Dockers players, especially confidence

It's not the ground, it's the opposition.

Lyon's game plan relies on pressuring the ball carrier to force errors. Hawthorn just don't make enough of them. At least they didn't on Friday. Their kicking was sublime and they smashed us at the contests. We wouldn't have beaten them anywhere if they played like that.

Turnovers, Behinds and Clearances are how you get the footy. Hawthorn don't turn it over much and don't kick many behinds either. So the only way we have to beat them is through clearances, and our best 2 clearance players were not playing.

I really dislike Eagle supporters coming on here and telling us what they dislike.

And talking shit.

Take away two of your gun mids and every team will get smashed. Take Dangerfield and Sloane away, you don't think Thompson will struggle? Or wce, take Shuey & Priddis away, Masten would struggle to have the same impact.

Take out Darren Glass and two of your three A-grade midfielders... oh wait - you don't have any. You just have an endless line of midfield plodders to replace whichever one goes down... so yeah I guess you don't really get it.

Are you fat Daniel? If so, I saw you holding a kids hand at a preseason derby a few years ago. I thought to myself " he brought his own lunch"
Sadly, patronising Wayne Kerrs like you will keep populating this board until you play someone not tipped to be in the bottom three by the end of the year.

This whole we don't have enough depth thing shits me. Can you please tell me how many of the 18 clubs have 2 top line midfielders of the quality of Fyfe and Barlow playing 2nds who can come straight in when injuries happen?
No team in the AFL has depth to cover the elite players.

This game plan at the MCG excuse is getting way too much airplay. It's not the ground.

Any team that works like that (i.e. no where near enough), give up that many clearances, against a half decent team, ANY WHERE - and you will get flogged. Admittedly, there are grounds (e.g. Etihad) where you could clog things up a touch more to stem the bleeding. But it would just be a matter of how much you lose by rather than whether you lose or not.

no excuses
they smashed us & they also beat us there last time
so we keep doing the same thing & expecting a different result?
I think there will be some minor tweaks to the tactics & that we have learnt lots from the game

For me it was actually about decision making, clean centre breaks and lack of talls.

Hawks had a spare player back and our midfielders bombed in long to the spare player. No hit up leads or run and carry. Hawks could easier defend that and run the ball out. If the ball is running out, you can't pressure the ball.

On the opposite end, Hawks kicked to hit up leads and bombed to the boundary.

Think you'll find that Ross actually developed depth in the Freo list with the improvement of guys like Mayne, Johnson, Spur, Walters, Crowley, C Pearce, Clarke and Ibbotson who were pretty average players before Lyon took over the reigns and have become high quality players. He has also brought on the development of emerging players like Sutcliffe, Neale, Sheridan, Crozier, Hannath and Taberner.

The problem with having quality players that can't make it into your 22 is that they want to leave to get game time at another club - see Vic Michie last year and Koby Stevens for your team. It works against clubs that are doing well being able to keep quality fringe players on their list.

If we play without a true spine at the MCG, and too many kids we haven't learnt anything. Got to get the mix right. Pavlich needs another Tall
in the forward line, or at least someone who can make a contest, Mayne is a medium forward.
Colin Sylvia included into the midfield rotations, our fab four, height, power in the centre, speed on the outside with Hill, Pearce, Moro?
Simpson?
Need to tackle better, create stoppages, this is where the bigger mature bodies help. Don't let the ball come out easily.
Forward line entries need to be cleaner, need crumbers, defensive forwards to lock the ball in.

Err, care to explain the bolded?

I'm guessing you're not aware Lyon defers a lot of our list management decisions to Lloyd and Bond.
