He certainly appears comfortable at this level though he will strike much tougher conditions against better opposition in future games, my only slight knock would be his disposal, tidy that up and we have a good player on our books.

He reminded me a lot of Sloane in his early games. Courageous but sensible in how he attacked it, beautiful lightning-quick handball and you can tell he knows instinctively where the ball is going to go.

Other than Crouch, there aren't really any other midfielders out of the side that you'd think are going to jump ahead of him, either. I'd love to see him given a real extended run.

If you actually adjust his stats for the time that he that he spent on the ground he played one of the most complete games of any of our players this year.

Also we have yet to see the club rest him forward so he has even more upside than you might initially think. He knows where the big sticks are and has great positioning. He is the sort of player that could go forward to break a tag and give us 2-3 goals a game.

Imagine how much more composed he, Kerridge and Brown would be by now if they had gotten decent time last year:rolleyes:

During our finals push that ended up one kick short of a grand final? Fair go, mate. Each of them got a game or two to give them a taste, and their positive form this year is a pretty good advertisement for that method of introduction to the AFL, as it has been for Dangerfield, Sloane and Otten in the past.

Thought I saw a little bit of Lenny Hayes out there today. Anything remotely close to that level will be a great find

Yes he does as not only knows how to get ball in any situation but how to get out of trouble and use ball efficiently .
Having been a huge fan of since seeing him play early last season , this was strengthen when SANFL official told me how rated he was as a opponent and they tagged him in a 36 possession game to cut them to pieces.
It is good although selectors took their time seeing footballers that just know how to get the ball emerge in our team like
Lynch and Lyon along with Laird and Brown and Kerridge and of course Crouch .
Maybe they wont become turnover kings like many been relying on for years .
How good would our future look if we had top 2 draft picks and trades or picks for Tippett in what was a good draft and another top 2 this year.
If Sam Shaw can ever get fit long enough here is another real class player.
Sando you must start Lyons against Saints and show some half the faith you had in Petrenko and how right were so many of us saying that others could do that role much better . Thank you Kerridge.
Porps needs a lengthy break from AFL tp find some of that magic that must still be there somewhere.

Taking a bloke under the Alternative Talent program doesn't count, in this instance.

Ohhhh I get it......
Geelong only recruit footballers but not athletes. ..... and when they do break this rule that blows away the argument it doesn't count.........

Bullshit. Geelong recruited an athlete that even Geelong fans said would only last 3 games.

Now he's let off the chain because he can run his direct oppenent ragged and still make position when required. No coincidence that in his last 2 games where he made good contributions, he was able to do so right through 4 quarters because of his massive tank and good speed across the ground.

But Geelong don't recruit athletes. ..... that's right.

I can tell you now. When it comes the pointy end of the season, unless injuries pile up, Blicavs will not be in that Geelong side. Bookmark it now.

Geelong apparently pick footballers over athletes.
They dont take too much notice in terms of athletic ability in drafts.

Lynch and lyons are footballers

FAITH said in drafts. Blicavs wasn't drafted.

He is a natural. Absolutely dominated the clearances when he got in. Not an in and under type player as such but if he gets his hands to it he seems to always find a target outside the stoppage and that's what we've been crying out for. Took a couple of the taps from Jacobs/Brogan out of the centre clean, one-grab, and dished it out before anyone else had even started to move. Brett James-like handballs to a target.

I'm really excited about this kid's potential for the rest of the year if he can stay injury free and we give him an extended run.

It was either Mooney or Ling in a recent interview who said something along the lines that Wells went for Footballers rather than athletes thats why he is so good.
Smetdes/GHS/Guthrie etc arent the best in terms of athletes but geelong took them early because they are natural footballers with footballing brains and skills.

Yes, Porps has been rubbish but the difference is that we know he can play well when it counts. The others we could pick we know won't - so what's the point? Crouch is a different case and as I've said, once fit I would have him in for Porps. Might only be a stay of execution for one or two weeks but you'd rather do that and if he happens to kick a few and get back on track - you beauty.

I'm not sure we do know that Carl...he's been poor for a long time and his best footy is probably pre-2009 so I think this would be a case of the head ruling the heart.

He's been poor since last year's finals

He did enough yesterday to retain his spot in the side. almost certainly enough to ensure he's not made sub again.

I think the benefit he had yesterday was (apart from entering the game when the already poor opposition were tiring) was that he's had a sustained run of good form in the SANFL. not just 1 or 2 breakout games. So when he got his chance, he not only knew he was good enough, but he had the good run of form to carry into the game as well.

Lets hope he keeps his spot for good now.

His hands have deteriorated since the shoulder in 2008. That is the biggest blow to his performance ceiling, he doesn't gather first touch and create time for himself anymore, so the lack of pace and really any other exceptional attribute has been exposed. Changes to the interpretation of bodywork in marking contests have killed him too.

It's not form. We've talked finding form for months, a couple of years now. It has never been form.

It's tragic as hell, because we all know what he was and how hard he worked to carve an opportunity out for himself. He was also on a mission in that finals series last year, determined as ****. He deserves much more. I feel his only chance is some sort of adjustment to his athletic profile, which is unlikely to happen.

Quick handballs out of a stoppage are exactly what we need. Give him game time Sando.

Maybe he should start as sub again next week. He did it perfectly.
For player managerment, I don't think it is ideal to have the same sub on consecutive games as can lose fitness. Also, I would like to see Lyons given a full game to see how he goes, as he may not keep his place when Crouch comes back, but he may if he outperforms others (eg. say Mackay). We need to know that now!

He can take Poprs place in the side, with Henderson/Martin the sub.
