Mattner is the type of player that makes footy a great game, he just shows that you dont have to have the best skills in the team to have an impact on the game, surely some of the tackles and chasing must have lifted his more gifted team mates into the aggressive players we saw on saturday night you can only wonder if they would have been similarly inspired at geelong the week before

Your absolutely right iceman there are mores ways to lift a teams spirits than kicking a 60 metre goal or taking a speccy over the pack & some of those tackles put on by Mattner would have i'm sure lifted his more gifted mates playing around him.

Tackling has been an area where the Crows have been down this year. Mattner's tackling on Saturday night was great and the one on Schofield in the 2nd quarter where he pinned the arm, was as close to a text-book tackle as you would see.

Tackling & desperate efforts lift team-mates & if Mattner can keep up the intensity he showed on Saturday night, there is a role for him to play for us this year.

i thought Mattner did a very good job on saturday night - we have lacked someone with his style of play - and i think he can fit the bill for the type of tagger we have been looking for to support Stenglein ie someone to tag the quicker opposition players - i dont think we have had anyone capable of doing such a job since Crowell
We have tried Shirley but imo is just too slow and his disposal skills aren't up to it - a great honest trier but not if we aspire to be a top afl side.
I would accept that Mattner was given an extensive try last year and didnt quite handle the job however he still is 21yo and i think he has the physical ability to do the job - perhaps he just needs to look at Kane Corne's mental discipline and learn from it.

I coudn't believe the dyeratribe acoming out of dyertribes mouth.

As a coach myself I couldn't believe the crititicsm being heaped on Mattner's performance by the Dyer..... After last weeks soft effort against Geelong the one thing we needed was players who would have a real crack at it, and Mattner is one who certainly does. Mattner deserved his recall by consistent performances for Sturt. He clearly showed on the night why he was recalled fo this game.

His tackling was fantastic and helped to lift the side. He helped to create pressure on the Power side, something in the past they have not coped well with. He burnt the ball a few times, but the defensive side of his game, provides the side, and the backline in particular with a harder edge. He also has pace , and can run down the opposition (remeember the tackle on Robert Harvery at AAMI, when he damaged his shoulder) and provide much needed run from half back. Every team needs a number of aspects to its game to provide success. Mattner improves the defensive part of Adelaide's game. Although you cannot have many players like Mattner in the team you do need players who have the ability to tackle hard and well., as he can do.

He is also quite tall at around the 187cm mark so he can provide height in the backline without decreasing our mobiity. He can play on a small forward or a medium sized player. He can also play onthe ball or play on the wing. One game is only one game, but he certainly vindicated his selection last night. Well done Matty and well done selectors, who always get the blame when the team does not perform well.
