Actually it kind of is inside. A mounted laptop with a giant screen.

The CPU and GPU are mobile versions.

With no built in keyboard, mouse pad or battery. Ever tried using one just sitting it all on your lap? I imagine it'd be as frustrating as supporting Freo.

The only reason I sometimes slightly approach regretting getting a Macbook is... games. Everything else it's freaking amazing. I have it hooked up to my hifi speaks when I'm at home so it's like a home theatre system. The infared remote brings up the Front Row program so I can play iTunes playlists and skip/navigate from anywhere in my room. Love it for uni work, love it for net surf, hook it up to a spare monitor to watch movies. Sweetness.

Oh yeah, and it has never ever ever crashed.

I bought a mac for video editing - fresh out of the box i installed final cut studio it crashed TWICE during installation and then a month after I bought it the hard drive failed and had to be replaced and i lost all my shit.

My bro previously bought one and the hard drive also failed and had to be replaced.

My bro's external DVD drive also failed.

My mum just recently bought one for photoshopping (she is doing a photography class) and the ****ing dumbasses at the shop special ordered in her copy of photoshop, she couldn't figure out how to install it so I came around and they had sold her a WINDOWS version of photoshop. I cannot fathom the stupidity. They also sold her a card reader which doesn't work.

Macs are terribly overpriced junk.

hard drives and external drives failing have nothing to do with it being a mac. those parts are just as likely to be in a pc and just as likely to fail in a pc.

as for the photoshop story, well she just bought it from dumbasses.. hardly a mac issue.

There's far too many generalised posts in this thread. What exactly do you need the laptop for? This will determine what OS you need, how much RAM, Processor, etc.

I have a mac and love it. I also need to use some windows only programs like AutoCAD and therefore use dual boot to run it. I use a lot of large programs like ArchiCAD, Cinema 4D and some Adobe suite programs, therefore i have a 2.4Ghz processor with 2gb Ram and at times need something even faster. If you are just using the laptop for internet and simple things like word processing, then my setup would be fine.

Don't duel-boot. I know it's free and easy, but if you're gonna use multiple OS's get VMware Fusion or something. That way you can run both OS's simultaneously and share/open files between systems. Having to duel-boot is a pain in the arse because it means you have to shutdown one OS to start the other. - It's like having 2 standalone computers and one power cord. A couple of days of that and you'll be too deterred to use Windows at all.

Depending on the programs being used, using virtual drives is not a good move. As said above, i use AutoCAD and using this through a virtual drive on OS X simply does not work well. Continually freezes and just generally slow.

It is slightly annoying that you have to reboot but i still think it's great that i can have all the fun of a Mac but not need to carry around a separate Windows laptop just to use AutoCAD. File sharing is annoying but not totally unusable. You can control all files from the OS X side but not from the Windows side. For example, you can drop files from OS X into the Windows partition and you can even delete or copy any file on the Windows partition from OS X. While in the Windows side you can only access the files on the Windows partition.

Dual boot is great and if it is needed i would recommend it to anyone.
