Hi there,

I need a laptop for a course i'm doing. The thing is I have an iMac and always thought my next computer purchase would be another one.

So, does anyone know of anywhere i can get a refurbished mac laptop -air or pro i don't care?

Why a mac? Unless, the course you are doing requires software that is only available to macs.

Does every Mac thread need to derail into "buy a Windows/Linux" laptop instead?

I don't see the OP asking for opinions on anything but a Mac laptop.

You will just have to accept that sometimes, some people buy an Apple product. Deal with it.

Yeah, but I hate to see people spend more than they should and try to help out by offering options. Is that a problem with you?

Thanks r&b. I was going to say that in the op.

Mac is the only option for me but thanks for caring.

I bought a new BMW this year. Would you have tried to convince me to buy a Corolla instead?

Your opinion was clearly not required in this thread. If she was asking about O/S choices, then fine, but she wasn't.

Absolutely R&B thanks :)

Can you advise which mac i should get? i am prepared to buy new as well but would prefer a bargain.

Personally I'd go for the MacBook or Macbook Pro over the Air - just a bit more hardy and robust when transporting around etc. If you don't need a big screen and mega-speed for layouts or graphics or whatever, then the 13" versions are affordable and have plenty of grunt.

Not sure what others think but in my business, we always Flexirent or RentSmart so that we can easily upgrade to new equipment about 2/3 of the way thru the contract. Might not be so attractive for an individual, but you should consider it. You can include peripherals and software on a rental contract too, as far as I know.

I care nicky, yet no gratitude shown to me for my helpful first post :(

As for which one you should buy, what are you going to use it for, what type of software do you need to run on it?

I'd wait for the new MacBook Air to see what it's specs are, if they're good, get one of them, if not, the 13" MB Pro is pretty ballsy.

Dean - as for 'robustness' - Airs are SSD, so they should be more durable in that regard, and I thought they were the same alum unibody thing these days?

hahaha you and i are solid KE but i will show you more love.

Seriously though, thanks for the advice i'm pretty crap with these kind of things.

I need for cs5. I have an imac which doubles as my television so it will be good to browse the web whilst i watch things on something that isn't my phone.

I start this course on monday so i can't wait for the new mac to come out.
"MacBook Pro 13" is a good option, but get the 'i' Processor ones, not the C2D" - what is the difference?

If you present your uni student card at the apple store, they will give you 10% off. Saved me about $150 when I got my MacBook Pro 13".

Or you can keep a few extra dollars and have a predominantly blocked dunny that requires perpetual maintenance.

No, but if you bought a bagded BMW chassis made with the same parts of a Corolla at a higher price, I would have advised you against it.

Meh at the haters.

Good luck with your purchase nicky.

Hawkamania i have a dell laptop for work. I prefer the mac operating system over windows - yes i'm aware i could use linux but i don't want to.

On top of that i already use an imac which is in my living room and doubles as a tv, the software i need i already have and it's mac SW. I don't like the look of televisions or pc's and i don't find imac's visually disturbing, hence why i use it as a tv as well as a computer.

If you replaced BMW with Lexus, your statement would be somewhat true, yet we know Lexi run and look a shitload better than their Toyota siblings.
Quanta Computer Inc. is the current major manufacturer of notebooks for Apple. As the largest manufacturer of notebooks in the world, they also have contracts for Dell, HP, Fujitsu, Lenovo etc.

Its like that Simpsons episode at the Duff factory where Duff, Duff Light and Duff Dry all come from the same source.
