Thought Macaffer did a really good job tonight tagging Murphy. Kept him to only 15 disposals with a 60% DE.

Another player decaffeinated :thumbsu:

Saw some of the tactics the blues were using on caff to break the tag. Gibbs intentionally bumped caff of the ball in the midst of a stoppage which allowed Murphy to run off and get the ball.
You know your tag is working when the opposition are going that.

I agree with the above; he will never be able to tag danger and griff, et al. But players who do not have elite pace he will be good with.

Him on Ablett will be interesting.

Really sick of seeing ppl bag caff out on the threads during the games... He's been tagging 12 months and clubs know what he's up to now. They study him, etc. They develop ways of breaking the tag. He's not a blanket. His player will get a touch here and there and may even kick a goal. But his main thing now is learning how to significantly reduce the impact of the player he goes to. He's doing this well most of the time.
Over time he'll also hopefully develop his offensive game as well.

The only mistake I reckon was not taking a shot & he tends to do that when he's lacking confidence on set shots and tries to pass it off ..we eventually got a goal but had to stuff around Our seniors need to take the responsibility and believe in themselves to finish off

Given the right match up, he'll kill it. When he gets asked to tag players with extreme pace like a Griffen, Dangerfield etc, thats when he struggles.

He MUST take Ablett next week.
Wha...? You said he struges with pace and then said he must play on ablett? Huh?

Gaz doesn't have extreme pace, he does however have elite breakaway steps - those first 5 steps get a break - and he can move the ball quickly and with surety.

That gives the impression of elite speed.

At pretty long odds I'd suggest.
Caff was good again and credit to Murphy he tried his guts out allnight but couldn't shake him.
Why give Murphy credit. I heard the same comment from the commentators.
If Cloke tries really hard but is beaten by his opponent we don't say all credit to cloke he tried hard. Why does Murphy get this compensation for being beaten.
Fu*k Murphy. Of course he tried. Its his job. But he got Decaffenated.

Yeah I was getting a bit sick of the commentators, and a lot of non Pies people on BF. Lots of complaining about Caf, yet no one says a word about what gets done to Cloke EVERY week... or the treatment that Pendles was getting as well. It seems ok for Crowley to play in the exact same way, yet when a Pies player does it suddenly it is horrible.

Murphy should do a lot more than try.

He's their skipper!!

Well done Caff. Another head to put up on the wall.

It's the breakaway steps that caff has issues with, and what killed him with danger and griff. Ablett is the best in the league at this.

And no, I don't subscribe to the myth that if someone moves the ball with surety and quickly gives the illusion of pace... Pendles is more sure than anyone and doesn't look quick.

Never said Caff doesn't have probs with the breakaway steps, just saying Gaz is no speed merchant.

Just because you don't subscribe to a belief doesn't make it a myth. Actually Pendles doesn't move the ball like lightning but he certainly moves it to advantage.

Awful, awful captain.

Because I didn't think he had it in him. I thought he'd just roll over and play dead like Cotchin did.
There's no shame in getting beaten the real shame is when you give up and at least he didn't do that.

Ablett is like the white whale for taggers. Caff can say he's had a good day if he keeps Ablett to under 25 and doesn't allow him any easy scoring.

Jordie McKenzie did a pretty good tagging job on Ablett one day, which should give everyone hope that it's at least possible...

Percolatin' on the perimeter, decaf time baby.

If he can hold Ablett to less than 39 touches I'll take that everyday of the week.
Ablett generally only gets low to mid 20s when proper attention is applied by a decent tagger.

Was interesting watching him last week again allowed to run around tag free racking them up.

He has been kept low by D.Jackson and Crowley too, this untaggable myst is just that myth. Fact is Ablett has been allod more freedom to do what h wants then he should of through his career with only some teams choosing to tag hell only some teams even employ a tagger.

Buckley et el would of loved the freedom Ablett has had during his career every week Buckley towed around a trailer most times multiple taggrs per game, back when tagging was a league wide thing.
