Lifelong Port Adelaide supporter Craig McKay, aka Macca19 from BigFooty, gives us his thoughts on the best 22 for Round 1. The season is on our doorstep and a big year for Port Adelaide is about to commence. With Fremantle away first up, it's important we get away to a fantastic start. Assuming everyone will be fit and available, this is the side I'd like to see play in Round 1.

B: Tom Jonas, Alipate Carlile, Jack Hombsch
HB: Matt Broadbent, Jackson Trengove, Jasper Pittard
C: Jared Polec, Ollie Wines, Brad Ebert
HF: Hamish Hartlett, Justin Westhoff, Chad Wingard
F: Angus Monfries, Jay Schulz, Patrick Ryder
R: Matthew Lobbe, Travis Boak, Robbie Gray
I: Jarman Impey, Andrew Moore, Kane Cornes, Matthew White
EMG: Cameron O'Shea, Jake Neade, John Butcher
 
I still think Moore is just ahead of Young, though if Young plays well this weekend and Moore has a poor showing it could well change.

At this stage I'd have Krakouer or Young ahead of Matty White, but perhaps he gets credits carried over from last year. Lord knows he has stunk up the pre-season.

Other than that, no issues.

Why is Macca19 s team upside down?

FWIW, if Gus and Ryder aren't available, I think Neade slots straight in.
I'd love to see Amon rotated onto one of those flanks, maybe not for round 1 though.
Young v Moore battle will change weekly no doubt.

Neade misses out because we now have Ryder. If Ryder is unavailable, Neade would slot back in. Its good to have options #nodepth

I'm OK with sticking with White for now, I'd say he really needs quality players around him to be able to do what he does so well.

I'd love to find a way to slot Neade in though, he's a good point of difference.

I'd take Neade over Moore as well. The thought of a genuine crumber at the feet of more than one tall is intoxicating. Neade hasn't been great so far this pre-season (although better than many giving credit for), but he also hasn't had a chance to play at the feet of both Schulz and Ryder, rather than having to be such a playmaker himself. Otherwise I agree with the side.

Macca19 what do you do with O'Shea and Impey if Ballantyne doesn't come up for round 1?

Both Neade and White add the sort of unpredictability that would drive opposition coaches nuts.

The thing about Neadey Gonzalez is that he causes panic in opposition defences. This was particularly evident during the elimination final: Chappy and his mates crapped their pants whenever he went near the ball.....
 
Neades moore Neade and less Moore

(All jokes aside, I'd have Young ahead of Moore atm.)
 
id like to see impey this week before I pass judgement, see if his disposal is good enough, last year he really struggled with the speed of the game when given the ball to dispose of
