2 years, surprisingly

Two years probably means lower annual salary compared to a one year deal. Helps with the salary cap. Happy with that. My least favourite premiership star but still happy to have him around.

Two years for a 31 year old? Bit of a Lonergan thing going on perhaps?

Two more years is a bit of a surprise:

Geelong’s General Manager of Football Steve Hocking is excited to have Andrew around the club for a two more years.

That said, I reckon he has been very good this year, even though he missed a chunk of footy earlier in the year. He has had a few outstanding games in the second half of the season.

the fact that he is a good kick makes him more valuable than the other oldies so 2 years is fair enough

Picked the right time to play a blinder
He's durable , still reasonably pacy and reads it so well - has looked good further up the ground this year. Kicking can be elite ( most of the time)

“Mack showed he is still playing good football and his role is important to how we want to play. He is a fantastic person to have around the club, providing outstanding leadership to our playing group.”
Great pick up. This was a criticism of SJ wasn't it? That he wouldn't buy into a new style of play.

Reading not your strongest subject at school ? ;)

Mind you I'd say whoever wrote that story might be Italian - "for a two more years" :D
Frank Costa maybe ?

Another factor that occurred to me that justifies the two years is they are trying to stagger the backline retirements - Boris and Doms in 2016, Mackie in 2017 and maybe Taylor in 2018.

What? We are just making stuff up now. What has kicking got to do with older players relative to any other player? Their lack or run is where most older players fall off the wagon not their kicking ability. And whilst Mackie has an excellent long kick for goal he has always been a poor in play kick who was notorious for clangers a few years ago. And whilst he has moved on from those days his in play kicking is far far from his strength.

What has that got to do with contract length? Mackie can still retire next year. His contract doesn't force him to stay on. Also we can sign players with 1 year contracts for an additional year. Nth has been doing it with Harvey for about 8 years in a row.

Isn't retiring early (without due cause like a serious injury) legally a breach of contract?
