In other words they'll do what Brisbane did this year where you come in civies with your outfit in a bag, then they'll have a safe for phones so that no photos get leaked
Trouble is ....all it takes is someone working the venue to get offended/take pics and a private event gets blasted.

That aside, I'm actually disappointed in the club with this.
Things have gotten stupid.
If you try to live to not offend someone, you'll never live.

Stand up for the boys.

This pile on, on the Cats players recently is just getting ridiculous.

Maybe shut ALL media out for the next 12 months, at least and stand up for team/club.

Best have a think about this and leave it there, I mean, best not comment further and offend someone, heaven forbid!!

I don’t think there would have been an issue if (by the looks of it) Smith didn’t have his phone and posted some extra stuff that didn’t need to be added, as others have said, people were waiting for a reason to criticise. The Holmes outfit was fun in isolation, particularly if Caro gave it the ok and it’s already part of a Holmes’ yearly theme.

But at that kind of function the club should be saying ‘no phones, no social media posts’ - nothing good comes from drunk posting. Perhaps they did have that rule, and Smith broke it.

It's a lily livered capitulation to a portion of society who have no meaning in their lives unless they're offended and outraged.

Did anyone find anything offensive?

I don't know anything about that rap group.
But really, say this was a footy team you dislike (say Hawthorn), would any of it offended you?

Maybe if I was a dogs supporter I might have seen the cotton on thing and said 'smart arses' but I wouldn't be offended.

Mad Monday/Wacky Wednesday hasn't been banned and they'll still get together for fun next year
Mad Monday is over, it'not coming back, but Geelong have handled this poorly over a bit of Aussie humour and fun. There was nothing in it, Geelong need to pull their heads in.

I think it's more around the comments that Smith added to the photos that he shared on his socials, and the effort of SDK & Dempsey arriving with in an Aston Martin with a 'Cotton On' number & bags of cash that raised a few eyebrows

Which goes to show just how sensitive some CHOOSE to be.

Do you really think that Geelong have made this decision themselves - read between the lines of what Swann said this afternoon:

Asked for his thoughts on the optics of the gathering, Swann said: “We have spoken to Geelong and had a chat to (Geelong CEO) Steve Hocking, they’re dealing with it.

“In my time, we think the clubs are the best people to deal with it, they’re their players.

“We’re not thrilled with what happened and nor are Geelong, so they’re going to take some steps and I think there will be something coming out this afternoon around that.

“We’ve pushed it down to them to deal with, we’ve had some good chats with them about that.

“They’ve been doing a little bit of work in the background trying to sort that out and hopefully this afternoon you’ll see where that’s landed.”

As much as he's saying he'll leave it to the clubs to deal with these matters, there's no doubt that the AFL would be making strong recommendations for how they want to see these situations handled

And in reality we'll see the club back at Mad Monday/Wacky Wednesday next year but it'll be done slightly different with more clubs following Brisbanes lead this year - go to the venue in you civies, take your costume/outfit with you in a bag and once all are inside behind closed doors, that's when you get changed

As for phones; they get checked at the door and you get it back on your way out

They'll still happen, just with a few differences to clean things up slightly

No one in the media has pointed out that Max has dressed up as AFL journalist’s at previous Mad Mondays or that he contacted Caro beforehand to check it was okay….
So this is all about Baz’s social media comments about Caro and Brokeback/losing GF….

The club should have told swann to get stuffed. It's political correctness gone mad.

That said players should never be uploading snaps from mad monday its just asking for trouble.

Did everyone remember to ask Mitch Brown before breathing oxygen today?
It's a big step forward what he's done. Congratulations to him however he's starting to make everything an issue or feel offended easily.

The other thing is if a female said what Smith said with the captions about Caro no one would beat an eye lid.

Chances are the club opted to take this action to save the AFL getting involved in a manner that they did with GWS last year where we saw suspensions handed down as a result of things they didn't like

The club saying that things will be done differently next year seems like it's enough for the AFL to back down for now from the issues

The SDK/Dempsey piss take with Cotton On & brown paper bags has pissed off more people for some reason - the guys were simply taking the piss at those who having accused Geelong & Cotton On operating in that manner, and it seems some of got offended at the idea that our guys are aware of the rumours and can have a laugh at themselves regarding it

I was just chatting to my 18 year old and telling him about all of the photos and insta posts etc and he was non stop laughing.

And then I told him about what the club is doing.

And he said 'yep, the whole world is going that way, it's crazy, all they are doing is imitating characters or people.
There's nothing wrong with that'.

Kind of understand the Smith comment but how on earth have Dempsey and SDK offended anyone?

All we’ve heard all year are questions about the cap and how we are rorting the system.

It was a laugh and a dig at the media / oppo fans.

Surely no one could possibly find that offensive?

For years Geelong has been lauded as the masters of MM, but suddenly some precious little souls have chosen to take offence, so now everyone is kowtowing to a particular opinion and will censor their words and actions to preserve the sensitivities of a select view.

Laughable.

We've become so soft and vulnerable to criticism.

Somehow their view and opinion overrides that of many others. Freedom of speech right there.

It's just pathetic that anyone can take offence with the Aston Martin / paper bag gag, or with Holmes even after he asked Caroline's permission.

It comes down to a lone voice whinging about Smith and Danger, others jumping on the bandwagon for the attention, the AFL being a dictatorship, and our club's lack of a spine.
