Im reasonably new to this but can it be played online between platforms. How much is xbox live and that crap?

Unfortunately can't be played across plat. There were about 3-4 other xbox users that were keen to join our league but there wasn't enough interest amongst themselves. You could try start up a CFM amongst them?
Personally I've really enjoyed the ps4 CFM and would highly recommend it. It's the first year i've done an online franchise among more than two people and it's been great.

We've entered the playoffs of season 2. Over the next week or two should begin season 3 in our Connected Online Franchise on PS4. Including the third rookie draft.
Always looking for more people to join.
We have about 10-12 people currently. Would like to push that number up to 16+
