Last night I watched one of the most disturbing documentaries I have ever seen on CI on Foxtel. Two years ago, two Swedish identical twins found themselves on the West Midlands motorway. They were seen on CCTV on the median strip between the two carriageways.
At one point one of the sisters jumped the railing and was struck by a car. Motorway police were sent to the scene to find them and help if they had been injured. The BBC show Motorway Cops had a cameraman in one of the cars on the way to the scene.
When they arrived, two other cops had the women off to the side of the road, seemingly unhurt and were talking to them. One of the cops came over to his colleagues to explain what was going on whilst his mate watched the women. Then all hell broke loose.
The cameraman was focussed on the three cops in front of him and their discussion. But in the background you see one of the women make a break for it into the traffic. The cop tries to grab her jacket to stop her but she pulls her arm out of the jacket and keep on running, only to be stopped by an 18 wheeler that knocked her down and then ran her over.
As this is happening, her sister, who by the way made no attempt to stop her, seconds later makes her own dash into the traffic and is struck by a VW Golf and thrown into the air and then onto the ground. Cops run everywhere trying to slow the traffic down and attend to the two women.
The sister hit by the truck has massive leg injuries but is seemingly unconcerned by her pain and is more interested in fighting with the cop who is trying to help her. She screams obscenities at him and also nonsensical ramblings about how he wasn't real and that people will steal her organs.
Her sister meanwhile has been unconscious for 10 minutes. But suddenly she awakens and displays the same aggression as her sister. Amazingly after her little excursion off the bonnet of a car doing 40mph, she is practically unhurt. She proceeds to get up and manages to push the female cop away and scarpers over the railing and down the otherside of the motorway.
After fighting off a number of cops and bystanders, she is finally restrained by about 7 people. They eventually are both taken away, one to hospital and the other to jail. They were eventually identified as Ursula and Sabina Eriksson.
Sabina, who had been taken to jail, managed to appear lucid enough to take part in a court hearing regarding the motorway incident. She was sentenced to time served (one day) for the incident and was released. This is where the story takes a bizarre turn.
Sabina is walking in downtown Stoke-on-Trent and sees two men, Glenn Hollinshead and Peter Molloy walking a dog. She strikes up a conversation with them and explains she is looking for a bed and breakfast to crash at. Hollinshead explains that there aren't any around but if she wanted to, she could come to his house and organize something.
This was at 7pm. At Hollinshead's house her behavious became stranger and stranger as she constantly went to the window looking for someone/something and also when she offered the two men a ciggarette, she snatched them back just as they were about to light them claiming they were poisoned.
Molloy became increasingly uneasy around her and said his goodbyes and left. Hollinshead offered Sabina a cup of tea which she said yes to, but he found he had none left. He went next door to his neighbour and borrowed some tea bags and returned to his home. The time was 7:40pm.
One minute later he was back at his neighbours, this time with four stab wounds in his chest from a kitchen knife Sabina had acquired. As his neighbour rang for help, Sabina was seen on CCTV running from the house, bizarrely she was dressed in her sister's jacket from the motorway incident and she was also carrying a mallet that she periodically bashed her head with.
A passing motorist saw her and moved his car in front of her and got out to restrain her. He managed to get the mallet away from her before she punched him and ran off. Hearing police sirens, the good samaritan decided his work was done.
Sabina ran up a motorway overpass and then proceeded to jump off, a 50ft drop onto the motorway where amazingly she again escaped death.
Sabina Eriksson was charged with manslaughter due to diminished responsibility. Her sentence was five years, but with parole she could be out this year.
Her and her sister were diagnosed with what the French call folie a deux, a dual psycosis. They somehow came to the conclusion that Ursula was the primary mental defective and Sabina was just following her lead and even after she had been split from her twin, the psycosis continued.
The sisters had been apart since 2003, one living in Ireland and the other in the USA. Shortly prior to the incident they had met again in Ireland and Sabina had left her husband and two children without a word or letter to explain her disappearance.
These two women had some kind of a mental breakdown that they somehow shared at the same time. The whole story is just amazing.
TL;DR - Watch the video, if you dare.
