Should the AFL have Magic Round like the NRL? I think they should. Who wouldn't enjoy a footy festival with all teams playing each other at the same ground over the space of a weekend?

I mean maybe it could work but you would have to use MCG and Marvel plus you could send a game like GC v North to a smaller stadium

Since the Grand Final is contractually tied to the MCG for the next 35 years, I actually think it would be good for the national comp to have a magic round rotate between the different states each year. It would be hugely supported in Vic, SA and WA; also, the level of media exposure it would provide the game in NSW and Qld when it’s held there would be huge.

Love the idea, especially if it were to rotate throughout the cities every year.

Gives a lot of interstate supporters of their clubs a chance to see their team. I know a few Hawks fans who had to wait years between games at the Gabba.

We can see all 9 games at once at the MCG and Marvel Stadium or the SCG and Sydney Showgrounds rotated each year. No games can be played at a single venue unlike the NRL.

It’s a ridiculously stupid concept. The vast majority of watchers are on TV and it’s no different where it is for them.

All you’re doing is depriving the fans of home clubs a home game that they may want to go to.

Some NRL boffin came up with it not because it was required, but because they had to throw the Qld government a bone.

That is literally it: It became a concept to placate Queensland when NSW and the NRL were busy signing their own dodgy long term Grand Final exclusivity contract. In the end, it is a decent boon for Brisbane because Brisbane crowds are the only ones who will consistently turn up to NRL games and get behind the concept. It's a bit of a lightning in a bottle I think that won't necessarily work elsewhere let alone in a different sport.

We just had 2 years of magic round, due to Covid.

Didn't get enough?
But no one could travel.

Would have thought state governments would be more than interested in hoards of travelling supporters spending money in their city for a weekend.

They do it because they don't get big crowd, it just wouldn't work in the afl.

It's the only way the NRL can attract crowds. AFL games can get crowds on their own accord.
Manly vs West Tigers pulled in 17,000 the other week by contrast last week Melbourne vs St Kilda not pulled 35,000 on mother's day, even then some would say that's low because both teams are travelling well.
