MODS - THIS NEEDS TO STAY A MAIN BOARD THREAD, NOT RELEGATED TO THE ANALS OF BIGFOOTY. IF IT IS RELEGATED THEN BIGFOOTY IS AS COOKED AS THE AFL

Ok - simple poll. Apart from Bulldogs fans, who else bothered watching the last 7-8 minutes of tonight’s match after that dissent rule call?

There was one paid against the Dogs too which results in a pies goal. But no one wants too see it regardless. It’s not a free let alone 50.

They pretty much haven’t paid an “arms out” 50 since after the round Andrews did it, which was fair with all the negativity around it. Then all of a sudden calling it for one who was standing there confused, is absolutely idiotic. De Goey was also very stiff, can anyone let the AFL know that players are human and can show frustration?

Dissent rule is fine if there’s swearing or anger shown AT the umpire, but this is ruining the game even further. Get rid of that and the stand rule, it’s gives the umpires a chance to be better at the basics that are always there.

Nah. That one was bullshit too.

None of us reasonable folk want to tolerate umpire abuse, but waving your arms for a fe seconds after a free against you - and that’s dissent. Gimme a break.

The way this rule has been administered is a complete embarrassment to the sport. Those two tonight plucked out of nowhere when it hasn’t been paid for weeks is bewildering. It is not fitting of a professional sport and Brad Scott should be sacked over it.

Neither of those instances tonight can be fairly said to be dissent at any registerable level.

Yep
The players have had more than enough time to learn the rules.
If you fined them 5k for every dissent infraction, dissent would be a thing of the past in no time.
Start performing like professionals …
The penalty is too severe, the Buku Khamis50 metre penalty is everything that is wrong with the game today.

Rubbish
Start performing like professionals
NO dissent to umpires
It’s very bloody simple
Rubbish yourself, The insanity of that decision tonight is not in the spirit of the game, they are professionals, the umpires are not! The penalty is too severe for a nonaction like tonight. It's very bloody simple, let them play the game. I'm all for no dissent towards the umpire, but where was the dissent tonight? If there is any dissent the penalty shouldn't be any more than 15 metres!

Those that can’t/won’t understand
NO dissent to umpires
Make comment on themselves.
The first club to fully wake up to the simple reality of :
NO dissent to umpires
Will give themselves a much easier ride in games each week …

That's not the spelling of that word you were looking for. Very different meanings there.

Umpire abuse should be penalised - not questioning a 50/50 decision out of frustration. Khamis was pushed - De Goey laid an ok tackle. Players are human and have emotional responses - this is getting ridiculous

What’s ridiculous is so called professional players costing their teams dearly with unprofessional performances.

The rule is designed to stop abuse of an umpire, not for showing displeasure/frustration when a call goes against you; i believe they're not mutually exclusive (i.e. you can be disappointed/frustrated without it being directed at the ump). But that's how it's being interpreted and it's horrible. You can't take the emotion out of sport; celebrating and being disappointed/frustrated are part of it.
And if you're human you're going to react.

Tonight, it killed Collingwood's momentum when it was shaping to be an exciting last quarter.
Really dislike the interpretation of the rule.

You seem very obsessed with this and can't seem to understand that high emotions exist on the playing field? I suppose you obey every rule in society without any qualms? A player getting frustrated is not necessarily abusing an umpire - "you F@#$ing dickhead that was a good tackle" is very different from "No!!! He dived forward!!"
