G'day all, in the last two days there have been two intresting articles in both the Age and the Herald Sun regarding Judd informing the Eagles of his intention to move back to victoria
Would we be able to make a play? I know there is talk about our increasing salary cap, though there is no doubt that King will have to take a massive pay cut if he is to continue his trade down at skilled, added to this the two players that everyone is talking about that will want more money, Ablett and Bartel both re-signed recently. As well as this i think there may be a few players that would take small pay cuts to make a play for him. His groins seem to be troubling him though he will have all of that corrected and he would be more than a handy aquisition. What do you think?

No way!!
I would say without a doubt that there is a lot more to his injury than they are letting on and that would be the only way he would be traded.

As much as i hate the Eagles they are very well run.
They are not the Dockers they don't let go of anyone who is any good.

Besides Fraser Gehrig can anyone name a player they have let go that has been any good.

And no smartarse responses like Brett Spinks or Mitchell White.

yeah fair enough, im not sure we'd be able to give them what they want anyway, no doubt they'd ask for one of our stars who we wouldnt want to give away, though on the Hawthorn board they are very keen and itd be worrying if they got him with the side they already have.

It is very improbable, if not impossible for a top 4 or 5 side to be going after Judd. A successful season means players will be wanting/getting pay rises, and when you need 10% of your cap for one player, it just won't work unless you are a bottom side cutting all of your senior players. The exception to the rule is Collingwood, but **** them.

Hope they do not get him - (IF he chooses to return NOW.)
He had hoped that Hawthorn would choose him in 2001 draft but they went for the "Mouth from Colac" instead. That would be a mean combination next year!

Bomber was asked this on Before The Game last night and he said that they were going to have enough problems next year with the salary cap as it was. So Judd was not coming to the Cats. Dave Hughes then chimed in and said, "But you'd love him at Essendon next year would't you?" Bomber laughed it off.

I have absolutely no doubt Judd will go to Carlton. Carlton can offer pick 1 or 3 and some fairly decent players (including Fev), and Dick Pratt can offer Judd a job as Executive Vice President in charge of Hookers and Porn for a million a year at Visy for the rest of his post-football life. The only other team that might threaten is Essendon.

The Eagles have always resisted trades with Collingwood. There seems to be some bad blood there.

Who do we have from WA that might like to go home?

Hahaha!

Collingwood have apparently said they are not interested, although it would not surprise me if they are foxing.

And hypothetically, Corey would be the only player of real note that is from WA and WCE would want, but he ain't going NOWHERE!

Judd for Spencer [WA boy] ?

:D
Your goal in life is to make me upset, isn't it?! :p

I don't think we need/want/should get Judd.
Can't see him 'fitting in' the salary cap or the team.
Plus I don't think we need his injuries to bring down our midfield because if we do get him we will rely on him.

The only reason Judd would come to Geelong is if he wanted to continue playing for a top club. He can take his chances at Carlton but he may not play much finals for a while.

I'd happily get rid of Corey (still love him) with possibly Josh Hunt and a first round draft pick.

As usual, anything is possible, the price is the question. Word is that Judd's injury is easily fixed and he'll be fine next season. If you could get him, and you could fit him in, you'd be nuts not to consider it. Having two untaggable goalkicking midfielders like Ablett and Judd would make us a very difficult team to stop. Picture WC at its best but with a functioning forward line. That's of course if the medical stuff in the press is correct.

Even on one leg last week he still managed to kick two goals and nearly set another two up.

There are a bunch of guys in the twos that might be acceptable too (starting with Prismall).

Carlton will be in the finals in say 3 years, give Judd the chance of winning a premiership, can't see any reason why he wouldn't go there.

Get rid of King and we are freeing up 400k in the cap, his last contract was negotiated as skipper.

Then you would need to trade a good midfielder, say Corey. Frees up 300k in the cap. Throw in a mature player like Hunt or Tenace and that's another 200k free. Starting to get pretty close to Juddy's asking price.

Carlton - Corey, King, Tenace
WC - Pick 3, Geelong 1st rounder, Carlton 3rd rounder
Geelong - Judd

;)

Hahah, I know its just a very loose hypothetical, but Carlton would not want King, for obvious reasons.

Although "Geelong - Judd" does get my motor running.

Imagine if Juddy did an Ottens - "I want Geelong!"

I hear what you are saying but you have to remember we have 15 players going into contract negotiations at the end of this season and a lot of those will be asking for a pay rise considering the success we have had this year.

Nuh.

Theres no way we could compete with offers made from other teams that have heaps of room in their salary cap and that have high draft picks to trade.

Because Ackland, Mclaren & co are far superior players to King? It was just a loose hypothetical re Judd but Carlton should be top of our list re clubs to shift King on to.

Fair enough they will be getting Kruezer but throw him straight into the team at 18 like we did with SK and by 25 and Carlton's premiership window, guess what, you have Steven King circa 2004-2007.

We don't need more midfielders; we'll eventually be like the Eagles if we kepe on going where they have 8000 modfielders but little else. If anything, Geelong needs to start working on bringing up a young defense to take over in a few years when Scarlet, Milburn, Harley steps down (won't happen soon but always good to plan for the future.) We have a young forward line, a couple of good midfielders in the 2's; we don't need Judd. Great player he is, we have his area covered.

if geelong ever got judd all he would do is wait for ablett to feed the ball out to him like he waits for kerr instead of going in there and getting it for himself.

Dont need him, watch ablett, bartel, selwood, ling and corey all grow in stature and make one of the most stellar midfield units We cats have ever seen.
