Make an outlandish (but possible) prediction for 2020

West Coast fall off a cliff and into the bottom 6.

Had 15 players in their finals team aged 27+ which means there’s a lot of players who are starting to hit the point where niggles can stack up and effectiveness of the field drops.

Plus West Coast players have historically had short careers. Whether it’s the travel, the prevalence of nose candy, whatever...

And while I like a lot of young players, I don’t necessarily see them getting better. Many are already pretty good and complementary to the veterans in an effective way, but not likely to take over from them

This prediction might be a year early but that’s the case for it - Outlandish and possible.
This might be true with regard to the WC midfield but not across the rest of the field.

From the 27+ year old players in the SF squad there are ready replacements for:
Sheppard (Rotham)
Kennedy (O Allen)
Hutchings (J Cameron)
Hickey (B Williams)
Darling (Brander)

Brander not as ready as the others but hard to imagine Darling retiring anytime soon.

You can also take out Masten (delisted), and Schofield (won’t play much in 2020) from that list of senior players too.

Definitely not a developing squad, but other than a reliance on an ageing midfield, it’s not like the cupboard is completely bare

Yeah nah.

1 AD is one year after birth of Christ, 10 AD is 10 years after. So in 10 AD 10 years have passed and you are in the second decade.
You clearly don't understand.

There was no year zero.
The year before 1AD is 1BC.
Christ would have turned 1 on the 25th December 1AD (assuming the birth was 25 Dec) and 10 at the end of 10AD.
The second decade would start in 11AD.

We are currently in the 2019th year. We will not complete the year until 31 Dec 2019.

Well if that’s true you’re correct, I’m not sure if that’s true or not.

It is not silly, it is just lazy to not acknowledge that 1971 to 1980 is the 8th decade of the 20th century.

And youre right in the context youve provided. However when people refer to "the 70s" they are referencing the years from 1970 until 1979, the "no year 0" argument doesnt apply here as "the 70s" is a colloquialism defined by the masses and not an SI unit for measurement.

Yes it is a colloqualism.

Prediction 2020 will see the first 21st century born premiership player.

Melbourne will finish last and merge with the Suns (who finish second last) and become the Tasmanian Devils.

So North get to unveil our number one draft pick in Melbourne knowing we play all our homes there!

Melbourne emulate their bizarre odd-even year form swings of the late 90s and early 00s, surging up the ladder from second last and into the finals in 2020. The Dees continue their love of Olympic years, and face minor premier Richmond in the Grand Final, the first finals meeting of the teams since the 1940 Grand Final. Richmond are hot favorites for their third premiership in four seasons and to celebrate their 100th anniversary of their first VFL premiership in 1920 with another in 2020. But this time the Tigers are over-confident and implode under pressure much like Adelaide in 2017, the Demons crushing Richmond similar to the demolition of the Tigers in the 1940 premiership decider. Melbourne are premiers for the first time since 1964 (the Olympics held in Tokyo that year as they will be in 2020) and end their 56 year premiership drought (Melbourne also won the 1956 Grand Final).

The badly beaten Tigers do not leave the MCG empty handed however, as Dustin Martin gets another medal to go with his two Norm Smith Medals for 2017 and 2019. Unfortunately for Richmond, this time it is the Leon Davis Medal.

But the real question is what decade was the 1940 grand final played in?

Outlandish yet possible claim for 2020: it’s the 2020th year since Jesus Christ was born

Already incorrect..

The date of birth of Jesus is not stated in the gospels or in any historical reference, but most theologians assume a date of birth between 6 BC and 4 BC.[1] The historical evidence is too incomplete to allow a definitive dating,[2] but the date is estimated through two different approaches—one by analyzing references to known historical events mentioned in the nativity accounts in the Gospels of Luke and Matthew, and the second by working backwards from the estimation of the start of the ministry of Jesus.[3][4]

Don’t sweat the technicalities

Just look at these
1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980

One of these numbers is not like the others.
Regardless of what’s technically correct it’s silly to call 1980 a part of the 1970s decade.
Correct. 1975 was like no other year.

Afterall, you always remember your first.
