No sure about that. They'll probably do a vote on the camp.
Player vote is just one small portion of the decision making process for captaincy. By the sounds of it not all players will be attending the camp anyway.

My best guess was the decision would have been made most likely over the Christmas break. Now they’re waiting for the right time to announce publicly.

As for Martin becoming captain… I’d think it might be a lot for the champ.

He’ll be playing on a lot of emotion this year and I believe he is going to have some amazing games of footy. But the responsibility of captaincy might be too much to carry.

Coming back from a serious injury, the amount of rehab he has had to endure and the loss of his father who was his biggest influence on him is a huge load, emotionally and physically to go through.

My choice would still be Dylan Grimes.

I doubt they've already made the decision. I'd say the coaches and leadership group have come up with a short list and the players will vote will be the decider.

reckon, but only a hunch that dusty has ruled himself out and when its time to vote the dustman will vote for JR.

Dusty isn’t the only bloke in the tribe who’s lost his dad facepalm.

Look at Shorty in 2020. He was just as close to his dad as what Dusty was.

Shorty had a spectacular season.

So Dusty for Capt then!

Wait, I'm confused. In the other thread you said the opposite.

Are you arguing against yourself in two different threads?

Where have I said Dusty for captaincy? I said Shorty lost his dad (who he was very close to) in 2020. This doesn’t imply Dusty for captaincy

Sorry. If I see anything positive on its own in this thread I take it as one more for 'vote Dusty for Capt' team.

A number of senior players were ar Kilmore races today to watch their horse go around in Race 1. I hit up **** for a photo and a chat. Asked him about who is the front runner for captaincy. No hesitation from the bloke in saying Nank is a massive chance
And people are saying Dusty is not a good fit due to his lack of media skills. No doubt Nank has done media after games, but honestly can't remember one. Grimes is who I would be front runner.

Personally should be best fit for job. Media and all that other stuff is secondary.

Yes, but without knowing how much importance the club places on each role, we are guessing really as to how they and the players decide who is best. I agree with you though, although part of the job, the media is really a secondary role and can often be done by others quite often. The meetings and other behind the scenes roles also need to be considered though.

What’s the horses name? Did it win?

The simple fact is Dusty is his own man. He dictates what he wants to do on and off the field. He's bloody good mates with Cotchin and would've known the captaincy was up for grabs long before us plebs. If Dusty had even a micro ****teenth of interest in being Captain he would've long ago declared it and all over Red Rover Dusty would already be Captain. Simple fact is for all his strengths Dusty has some insecurities and anxieties that would only be exacerbated were he to become Captain. In my opinion there's a snowflakes chance in hell Dusty becomes Captain. I'd much rather a happy Dusty see out his twilight years at punt Rd than one who feels uncomfortable getting harassed with ludicrous questions by the parasitic media who've been gunning for him for a long time.

With him missing from the Bright camp, I’ll assume he didn’t want the role as the players would have discussed this and possibly ready to make that vote

I don’t think he wants the job but him missing the camp could be for any number of reasons
Could be as simple that he needs to isolate for being a covid close contact

I believe that was the case.

I wonder whether Nank just utterly loathes 'roaming' Bristle Twat, who sadly is the spearhead (sometimes sole spearhead often in the covid era) of after games media coverage. The numerous times he's been approached he looked like he'd rather bury the clown than speak with him. The few live interviews I've seen done with Nank he's seemed perfectly comfortable and well spoken (from a footballer's standard).

Agree on Grimes - not to mention Jack - having an edge when it comes to interacting with media, both coping with it and presenting well.

Considering how much I still cringe at the deepest levels that we were forced to recruit a captain like Johnson to follow on from an equally woeful choice in Campbell back in the dark ages, I'll support any choice and be eternally grateful that we're so absolutely spoiled for top quality candidates. :thumbsu:
