It shows that this year was a wasted opportunity because on our day our best was good enough or nearly enough. Unfortunately we lacked consistency throughout the year and had a disastrous start to the season. Obviously there's still massive and numerous areas for improvement, but if most things click we could be in for exciting times.

This is exactly what I was trying to say.

The Magpies, on their day, can beat anyone. We just need to bring a more consistent brand of footy and things will turn around.

As the biggest club, our best gets magnified and looks better than what it is, and our bad is made to look worst than Fitzroy circa 1996.

We probably aren't likely to win the flag in 2017, or maybe even 2018 for that matter, but the ingredients are there. If everything goes to plan, we've got what it takes to win a Premiership as soon as next year. Call me a lunatic, but I see enough potential there in this group.
