Have it from a good source that Mundy will be meeting with both Melbourne and Carlton on Monday before the Brownlow Medal count.

It made sense for Judd to "interview" clubs because they would have done whatever it took to get him to their club but surely Richmond, Melbourne, Carlton and Essendon don't all have $650,000 in their 2011 cap for Mundy?

Just an opinion but wouldn't Mundy be waiting on the Ablet decision at Geelong.
Ablet leaves and there is no doubt that one of the best teams in the country will come knocking with a pocketful of cash that has just been freed up.
The longer he waits the more I think that Geelong are in the picture.
The good thing for us is that there is no way he would survive the pre season draft to Geelong, so they may actually give up something of worth.

Carlton have a bit more than that thanks to Fevola and Stevens leaving last year and a few front loaded contracts. I thought I read something this year about Melbourne paying 100% of the salary cap which was quite surprising.

i also think he awaits the ablett decision.

if ablett doesn't go Mundy will get the captancy at GC and more cash.

or, which i hadn't considered, geelong has money to throw around.

here's hoping ablett is GC bound

lol at Essendon board saying they're gonna offer Houli + Atkinson + a 4th rounder.

I think I'd prefer letting Mundy head to the PSD and spend some time at the tigs than that. It's like spitting in Freo's face.

To be fair close to half of them have voted Yes In the "Would You Trade Pick 8 For Mundy" Thread on their board.

I think I'd be quite happy with pick 8 if Mundy did request a trade. It puts a lot of pressure on Barlow and Palmer to find their best form in 2011 but looks a fair deal.

Pick 8 for Mundy would give us picks 8, 20, 37, 54 and 71. If we could then trade Tarrant and pick 37 for someone who's in their mid-20's and walks straight into our best 18 we'd be going okay.

Yeah I think if our midfield develops like it should pick 8 could almost be beneficial to grab a KPP to shore up our future after pav retires. I'd prefer to keep Mundy but hey if we have 8 + 20 then we can get a mid and KPP plus use taz and 37 like you said to probably get a player too.

Our midfield would be weaker but it wouldn't be ruinous to our top 4 chances.

Hutchy was surprisingly circumspect on TFS tonight. Knowing how he loves to put the boots in to us I expected him to gleefully announce Mundy was signed sealed delivered to anyone but us but he seemed to think it's Gold Coast no chance and 50/50 Freo or a Vic team.

I don't believe that one, but I know it's source & it's a very, very good source.
FWIW same source also said last year you'd asked about Atkinson & Houli. You could rate them, who knows.

The longer this drags on the more I am an convinved that he is gone baby gone.

Does not add up that he would not have signed already. Potentially he is waiting for this round of finals to finish, see who announces they are moving on and then the heat moves off him for signing.

IMO if was wanting to leave then he would have done it before the clubs awards night. A bit like Taz there would be nothing worse then sitting there knowing you are leaving. Also he is likely to poll well and his price edges higher. The longer it has gone the more his contract has gone up (apparently). Interesting correlation that I wonder why he has not signed???

I understand the thinking here Frigate but I would point at Chris Knights signing back on for the Crows this week as an example of how this feeling may well be wrong.

The Crows have been done for a lot longer than us and he just signed.

Mundy is 25yo and in the peak of his career. Guaranteed (along with Jobe) to be in their top 2 mids.

I would be trying to get Ryder or Gumbleton in a trade if Mundy chose Essendon.

Despite what some people (Memorioes et al) think, Mundy is one of our few A graders. We should therefore be trying to get another player who is close to A grade as any compensation.

Aim high.

I'd take pick 8, but i'd be pushing for a kicker - maybe a 3rd round pick or a fringe player. They have plenty of them from WA that might want to come home.
In saying that, why would he want to go to Essendon? By the time they get back up and running he's going to be on the verge of retirement.

I think people are forgetting the last time he signed he didnt do till after the season was finished it was just that our season had finished much earlier than this year and thus it seems later...like any player you will listen to what others are offering, leverage it to get a better deal and then sign it. I would guess they will look at what happens in the Brownlow, get a few additional clauses in his contract and go from there..Also if you look at it, he will be the only one eligible for the veterans list in a few years due to our poor drafting etc during that period....

I can't be bothered going through old threads but Mundy re-signed in mid/late September in 2008.

I think if he does sign the club will be a little bit pissed that there's a 4 week saga every 2 years.

How often do you get a "like for like" trade though? For that to happen we need to find
i) a player of similar worth to Mundy at whichever club he chooses.
ii) that player then has to be out of contract
iii) he also has to want to move to perth.

It happens so rarely. When we lured Bell, Tarrant, Carr etc we didn't swap a player of equal value and it hasn't happened with Warnock, Polak, etc going the other way. Having a player out of contract and looking to head home is a difficult situation and under the circumstances I'd be very happy with pick 8 IF Mundy decides to go back to Victoria.
