Re: Is Mundy signing bigger then Pav?

It's a tough call, while Mundy is probably more important going forward Pav departing would be more deflating to the entire football club.

I'm really surprised that none of the "experts" that have mentioned that GC are into Pav that he'll be on the veterans list soon which means there will be very little between the offer from Freo and Gold Coast in total dollar$.

GC can't sign anyone before the season is over, against the rules. I would imagine then IF Mundy did sign something that it is null and void.

There was a window around Christmas where they could sign players.

Re: Is Mundy signing bigger then Pav?

After match Mundy said

“If you had told me at the start of the year that we’d have a final at home and win it, I would have laughed at you, along with a lot of people."

Doesn't sound like someone that's leaving.

Assuming he's still making up his mind it's good news. But if he has already committed to the Gold Coast, which sounds a real possibility considering that he thought we'd be struggling this year, then it doesn't matter how confident he is with where we're at now.

Re: Is Mundy signing bigger then Pav?

We'll go into Friday night as massive underdogs (no odds available yet but I'm guessing Geelong $1.15, Fremantle $4+) and re-signing one of Pav/Mundy/Tarrant this week could be a real shot in the arm to the players.

Re: Is Mundy signing bigger then Pav?

Mundy is key trade material. Whilst finishers like him are always nice Stephen Hill and Mora will be stepping up to take his place and hopefully also able to run out a full game.

For as good as Mundy can be he rarely does it for 4 quarters. People were saying he was BOG yesterday, yet he only really contributed for 2.5 quarters. He went missing and so did our team for a period there letting the other side (which was heavily injured) get within 20 points. This same thing happened during the Carlton, Melbourne, Richmond games and many others this year.

If mundy can do some training in the off season for once and get his body right for a full game then I would be fine with him staying. However he has had 6 years of not delivering on that front and a younger mid would be a better fit for our club. I'd like Griffen from the bulldogs instead of Mundy. Both would be on similar wages.

**** your'e irritating. It's asking to one of those alfoil hat wearers what they think about September 11.

Re: Is Mundy signing bigger then Pav?

Is there more talk of Mundy to gold coast or mundy to Victoria?

From our POV Victoria would be a much better option because our form will help to convince him to stay. If he's already committed to GC then what has happened at Fremantle this year and hopefully over the next couple of weeks will be irrelevent Sabre.

Re: Is Mundy signing bigger then Pav?

Memories you really think about team structure in a fragmented way.

You just randomly pick a player (Griffen) and hazard a guess they are at equivalent salary ....and then use this to attack a player who has had a wonderful season.

Hill, Morra, Mundy is a great threesome to get around Barlow and Sandilands - why bother with a hypothetical and just focus on is our best enough to get to the next level.

Barlow back and firing is the most important factor in all of this - to me we are still a player or two short in that wave of midfielders needed to deliver the necessary game plan.

Picking Mundy apart is just comical, he has been a massive player for us this year and his delivery is absolutely first class. Mundy would crack any team in the AFL and if he went it would be a major loss.

Re: Is Mundy signing bigger then Pav?

When you think about it why would Mundy want to leave? His salary is going to go through the roof,he's playing the best football of his career,he's at a club that's going to be in mix for flag success very soon.Mundy roves to the best ruckmen in the land.I just can't see Mundy leaving, unless it was for an absurd financial offer of something like $ 5 mil over 4yrs.

Re: Is Mundy signing bigger then Pav?

He is top class !
From the paper today :

"Mundy had had 22 of his 25 touches by three-quarter time. He finished with a game-high six clearances, a goal and 10 contested possessions."

Unbelievably he also only had 63% time on ground, way below most other key players. Is he carrying an injury?? He was awesome in quite a few contests and overall very very good. We must keep him as we will never get fair compensation from the AwFL make it up as you go along rules.

He was having a wonderful season up until Barlow went down. If you watch where he collects his brownlow votes it will be when Barlow was around doing all the hard work and pulling the midfield defenders all over the ground.

Once Barlow went down I saw the same thing I have disliked about Mundy for years, lack of work ethic. If the same situation occurs again where our best midfielders are down how can we rely on him to get us over the line?

I think however this issue can be solved by only playing him in the midfield for 2 quarters and moving him down on a back flank for the rest, where he started. That's if he does decide to stay.

I agree Barlow is our best midfielder and crucial to our success. If we had another fast young player like Hill (eg Griffen, though he just signed so it won't be him) our midfield would be very fast. Barlow is very similar to Mundy in regards to height, speed and weight but outclasses him with his work ethic. So having both of them in the midfield could be stacking too many of the same type in there.

The one thing we need over all else is speed. Palmer, Mundy, Barlow and Suban aren't known for their speed. People are looking at Mundy for sentimental reasons when he could be the guy we trade to get what our midfield needs.

Picking Mundy apart is just comical, he has been a massive player for us this year and his delivery is absolutely first class. Mundy would crack any team in the AFL and if he went it would be a major loss.

Wouldn't say it would be a major loss, it would be a loss though. However maybe for once in our trading history we could actually pull off a trade where we get rid of a player at his peak instead of trading them off at 70% value and having them improve at another team.

Either way the club isn't going to get rid of him it's only a decision he will have made. And there are strong rumours he is leaving so just think positively about it if he does go. It will be very positive for us if he does decide to go in the context of our team structures provided we get the right player in return.

Re: Is Mundy signing bigger then Pav?

The only time Mundy has been quoted in the press this year have suggested he will stay.
Earlier in the year he was quoted as saying he would look at his contract after the season and hopefully the club will still want him.
Directly after the final on Saturday he said “We’ve really battled since ’06 and hopefully we can get some sustained success now.”

There are BS BF rumours every year about players.

Re: Is Mundy signing bigger then Pav?

Mundy is a quality player, and in all hinesty I think you are going to have a hard time keeping him.

There is massive interest from a number of Melbourne clubs + GC17! and many of those have $ to splash around.

You will get a decent trade for him, I cant see you loosing out on it.

Great pickup. I have gone from minimal confidence, to high. Club should send him up to Seymour on the weeknd, not that compelling currently - under water.

Re: Is Mundy signing bigger then Pav?

So why bag Mundy if you think it is a coaching issue?

Because he could work his fitness up but refuses to do so? He has failed to gain any serious muscle in the 6 years he has been at Freo also.

Putting him in for 2 quarters and then down back is simply accommodating for his weakness in fitness whilst utilizing his strengths for some part of the game.

Re: Is Mundy signing bigger then Pav?

give it up

Simon black hasnt put on any muscle in his entire career.
Until u see someone getting 30 posessions a game u dont rate them.
You have zero understanding of how they get their posessions and what they do with them.
All u care about is seeing 30 and wow hes great.

Barlow is more of a link man, runs hard to space to provide options an then looks to give it to others in better positions.
Mundy is the guy who has been getting the ball in clearances an the one we like to get the ball to deliver inside 50 with good skills.

Prob the same reason u will never rate hill coz he prob wont ever avg 30 disposals a game.

Stop looking at stats and actually watch the game an see where hes getting his possesions and what he does with it.
Havent got a chance to see the replay of game but from memory just watch the 1st qtr an tell me who gets most our clearances, who is getting to most ruck knocks an who had the most impact on the game fro freo.

Either everyone has no idea or u have no idea.
The majority is normally right so get of your high horse and a rethink.

Re: Is Mundy signing bigger then Pav?

Whilst on trades and signing you have to get the feeling that Tarrant really wants to stay also.

Obviously his wife has made the call and who knows maybe he said they would definately move back to Vic at end of this contract when he first signed it.

The club wouldn't offer to have him based in Melbourne and playing for Fremantle unless he really wanted to stay. Tarrant im 95% certain wont be in Freo colours next year. Pav im 95% certain will be.

Mundy... well im about 75% yes 25% no.

Re: Is Mundy signing bigger then Pav?

well if you go by what pav said on his contract today

“Really comfortable with where it’s at,” he said of his ongoing negotiations with the club. “The club and I are very, very satisfied with where it’s at and it will be resolved soon.”

as we all knew. pavlich will stay. im sick of those media w***ers spreading bs rumours though

Making the most of players strengths and minimising the issues with their weaknesses is what a coach does. And if a player actually refused to address issues like fitness then the coach should get rid of him ( and way before he nudges AA selection you'd think).

Do you think any player would "refuse" to address their fitness? Jason Weber would pull the player's head off and rip out his soul.

I don't think every player trains the same, and some clearly put in more work on their fitness, but I am assuming that Mundy has pretty much done what has been asked of him or he would have been traded. And I also think that if, as is being suggested by one poster here, he can nudge AA while not at his most fit, then he has incredible upside still to come!
