Has anyone raised the possibility that he could have already signed with the Suns at the end of last year therefore it may be a foregone conclusion that we lose him.

I'm fairly certain GC17 were not permitted to sign any players (or write up understandings to that effect) before the regular H&A season had concluded for the club in question.

There was a window. It's been said a million times before, it's been quoted a million times before.

It was in the final qtr of last year, the dates are somewhere on AFL.com.au.

True, but UNCONTRACTED was the always the terminology that followed it.

Mundy is contracted for this year. GC17 could not speak with him last year.

True, that could be interpreted as at the end of 09 or 10 though. I would have assumed end of 2010. You can't be contracted to 2 clubs for the same season and Mundy was of course contracted for this season. But as he's not contracted for 11, he could be signed for 2011, just like the rest of the players outed so far as signed players. he's in the same ballpark as them and they were all speculated as possibly even already signed at some point throughout the year.

Ablett will be the last player they sign who is a regular player. I have a source very close to the gold coast who says ablett is the last one they have.

melbourne clubs would be the only danger now i suppose, but why would a guy from country victoria go back to melbourne.

Seeing as GC can only take one uncontracted player from each club, then surely they wouldn't have made any offer to Pav if they'd already previously signed up Mundy...

So now I'm hoping these rumours that GC offered Pav a huge contract have a bit of truth to them because it would mean they don't have their claws into Mundy.

True, but UNCONTRACTED was the always the terminology that followed it.

Let's be clear - they can't "sign up" anyone until their existing contract terminates. All a contracted player can sign is an expression of intent - which is arguably not legally enforceable. If Mundy has signed such a document, he could renege if he felt that the offer from Freo (and other benefits of staying at Freo) was more in his interests. I can't see the Gold Coast or the AFL taking him to court for this.

Nope. I specifically recall Adrian Anderson talking about this, on either a web presentation or something to do with the free agency and compensation announcements.

GC17 were not entitled to talk to a 2010 contracted player in 2009.

In other words, players out-of-contract for 2010 could speak with GC17 to see if there would be 2011 interest in them and work out if they should only add one year with their present clubs. I don't recall the window and can't be bothered looking for it. I think this describes the Rischitelli situation for example.

Pretty easy.

Just to clarify what I'm referring to, as "talk" was the wrong word before which is I think is what you're referring to.

If I recall the press conference (looking) correctly, and there was some controversy about it, was this;

GC17 could not make arrangements/understandings with 2010 contracted players during their 2009 'window', eg Mundy.

I don't recall what they were "allowed" to do with players who were uncontracted for 2010 (contracts expired 2009) who would subsequently go on to then potentially sign a one year extension with their current club.

Obviously, nothing has precluded GC17 talking to contracted players all year like Bock and (probably) Mundy. They could not sign or make an arrangement in 2009 however (effectively two contracts).

Technical I guess, but that's what I was referring to.

That makes a lot of sense, but the GC continue to be linked with Brennan and Rischitelli. While they can only sign one uncontracted player, they could have done that with Pav then low balled us on Mundy knowing they have PSD pick 1.

Tarrant and Mundy are our only un-contracted players that will be hard to replace though. If GC take one of our C graders then no biggie.
