Re: David Mundy will not be heading to the Gold Coast

Dont know Dom, it's just chinese whispers from other posts. Maybe he's leaving his options open to return to vic in 2 years time??

I'd much prefer him on a 3 year deal at least.

Re: David Mundy will not be heading to the Gold Coast

A 2 year deal would be a good thing from a supporter point of view because it would indicate that Mundy thinks he'll be a better player in 2012 than he is now. :thumbsu:

Re: David Mundy will not be heading to the Gold Coast

I pretty sure we can offer him the same kind of cash that GC can offer at this stage. If he goes, it would have to be to Victoria. What would be the point of going to the Gold Coast if his motivation for leaving Perth is the go home factor?

Really? Bocks offer was close to double and Krakouer's offer was reportedly more than double what their clubs were willing to pay. That to me suggests they'd be offering Mundy $750,000+pa assuming they're serious about trying to lure him to Queensland. If they offer 3.2 million over 4 years and we come up with $1.7M over 3 that's a fair difference.

One advantage is that we can back-end his offer for when Pav's on the veterans list but that could be risky because by 2012-2013 the likes of Hill, Fyfe, Morabito, Barlow and Silvagni will be looking at big offers from rival clubs.

Re: David Mundy will not be heading to the Gold Coast

What is GC's salary cap compared to other teams? The money they are throwing around is ridiculous.

The amount of money that the Gold Coast is allowed to throw around is almost criminal. By "raping and pillaging" the other clubs of some of their best players because they do not have to worry about the salary cap will give them an unfair advantage over the rest of the clubs in the AFL. This is just down right unsportsmanship-like behavior.

That all 16 clubs agreed to. :thumbsu:

The problem Creamy is that they only need to grab 8-10 established players then the rest of their list will be kids, VFL/WAFL players and dudes that have been de-listed all playing for or near minimum wage.

So while Fremantle would have 2 players on close to a million a season, 2 players on half a million, and 15 players on $150,000-$350,000 per annum the GC can throw cash at a select few without worrying about the cap because they'll have so many draftees.

We probably could, given a big chunk of our list is on the league mandated salaries for first and 2nd year players. But we can't just offer every decent player $600 or $700k a year otherwise come time to renew the contracts in a couple of years of guys like Barlow, Mayne, Mora etc then we'll have nothing left.

Given our position of being a side on the up with a realistic chance at a flag in the next few years you'd think that would be worth a bit and we wouldn't need to match offers from the bigger spending clubs likely to be near the bottom for that period.

Re: David Mundy will not be heading to the Gold Coast

I would be far more comfortable if he signed for 3 years. I'm worried that in 2 years theres going to be a lot more pressure on our salary cap with some of the young guns coming into renewal at the same time.

Having said that, I'd take any signing of Mundy to Freo at this stage.

Re: David Mundy will not be heading to the Gold Coast

Why was Mundy so upset after and before the Geelong game? Hugging players, crying. Bit suspicious if he is staying.

If he stays and we find the third ball winner (Barlow, Palmer, ???) he will go alright next year. If he leaves he helps us find a quality third ball winner, so win-win.

Could it be that the bloke was a bit emotional after a loss in a semi-final? I mean he played his guts out the whole night and we lost. I'd be suprised if he wasn't a little bit upset.

Watch the tape again, he was emotional BEFORE the game. Almost like he knew it was going to be his last with the boys.

Who would he help us find ? Would much prefer he stay as he is streets ahead of Palmer. Not only is Mundy now a ball winner he has by far the best foot skills of any of our midfielders.

Add my voice to the chorus: Maybe he cares more about winning than you would like to believe? These finals haven't come around to often for Freo. Surely he also realised that before the game.

Anyway, I hope he stays. He's been awesome this year.

Broughton may step up into the role anyhow. I really like him in the center, he is the player that reminds me most of Hodge out of our team. And unlike Suban gets the ball.

If Broughton can get a bit more fitness and Palmer/Barlow return to their best form it will be very nice. Though we still need another 1 or 2 players that can take their place when injuries hit.

People are too obsessed with Mundy, he isn't the best fit for our side because we lack pace and ball winners. He isn't a natural midfielder. He does best with ball winners in the side feeding him and giving him space. Opposition sides don't even really tag Mundy, they tag Barlow, Palmer and Hill which is telling. Opposition sides prefer to put their ball winners on Mundy and go "head to head".

So by looking at him you know what he was feeling and thinking?

Obviously you don't so why pretend like you know what's going on when you clearly don't.

So thats why Ling, Geelongs number one tagger, was following Mundy around all night.

Hrmm... so we are going to get rid of one of the best clearance players in the league because we lack a ball winner... umm.... just stop typing already.

Re: David Mundy will not be heading to the Gold Coast

He's our second best ball winner for the season, behind Sandilands (in terms of clearances)... but of course the troll won't listen.

Yeah actually he's third in the team in disposal averages, behind Barlow and Broughton. If Palmer wasn't coming back from a knee reco it would have been.

1) Barlow
2) Palmer
3) Broughton
4) Mundy
