Re: David Mundy will not be heading to the Gold Coast

Camtimley = Memories in disguise.

Way to go. Lets get rid of a player as he hits his prime.

Garry Ablett Jnr's first 5 years he averaged 15 possessions a game. Cats should of sacked him while they had the chance.

Brendon Goddard's first 5 years - he averaged 16 possessions a game. Saints should of sacked him after 5 years also.

Alan Didak - first 7 years averaged 14 possessions a game. Pies should of got rid of him too?

Ryan Griffen - first 5 years averaged 17 possessions a game. Bulldogs should of got rid of him last year as well before his breakout year?

What a stupid argument. Mundy's first 5 years are virtually identical to the players above who all had their breakout year in their 5th/6th year as Mundy has done.

The big difference is that Mundy was almost 20yo on debut. Ablett was Mundy's current age at last years Brownlow Medal count. There is only 14 months difference in age now. $600,000 pa should get you almost anyone.

Yeah because anyone with critical thinking skills won't come up with the exact same outlook on Mundy. The only people backing up Mundy year after year no matter what happens are the usual fool supporters. AFL is a popular game in australia which means most supporters are going to be average intelligence wise.

What a stupid argument. Mundy's first 5 years are virtually identical to the players above who all had their breakout year in their 5th/6th year as Mundy has done.

Yeah nah. Mundy hasn't put together a 4 quarter effort all year. He doesn't have the fitness base (surprisingly given his skinny frame) to play in the midfield for a full game. Barlow is apparently 92KG, a first year player, and is a better midfielder than Mundy, a 6 year veteran at 91KG.

It goes to show, when you get real midfielders like Barlow and Palmer in the team what can happen. Mundy is a back flanker and cannot pull off a full game in the midfield. So we can pay 600K/year for a back flanker in Mundy or spend that money on a better midfielder.

Losing Mundy will be a blessing in disguise PROVIDED we get a decent midfielder with his compensation.

What happens with Palmer in the team? We won six games in his first year (our lowest record for 7 years), then won six the next year when he was missing. How did this happen, if he was so good? We then win 14 games with Barlow in for 9 of those, while Palmer improves his best season to play a part in 7 wins.

Meanwhile, Mundy lifts his game and plays in 14 wins.

Who is more important?

The rest of the midfield was much worse in 2008 than 2010. Barlow is also a better midfielder than Palmer.

Meanwhile, Mundy lifts his game and plays in 14 wins. Who is more important?

Palmer is more important to our side than Mundy. We have Hill and Mora who can both step into Mundy's role, Hill has a lot more potential than Mundy and next year should be better than 2010 for him. I think Hill's best has already eclipsed Mundy's best, do you disagree?

Mundy isn't a ball winning midfielder, he isn't even a natural midfielder. He is only playing there due to our deficient midfield. His natural position is back flanker and where he has played most of his career. In a top side he would not be playing anywhere over 25% in the midfield. Only in our side where we constantly put one of the best forwards to play the game in the middle (Pavlich) does Mundy have a midfield role.

If Palmer, Broughton and Barlow can stay fit they will be our midfield core, feeding it out to Hill, Mora, Suban, Ibbo, Crowley, etc.

Re: David Mundy will not be heading to the Gold Coast

So how was the rest of the midfield much better this year? Who was in that midfield to make it much better? What was the midfield like in 2009? Better or worse than 2008?

Palmer is more important to our side than Mundy.

Really? How did we only have one loss before Palmer came back? The record of the team without Palmer is better than the one with Palmer. The record of the team without Mundy is zero wins.

I think Hill's best has already eclipsed Mundy's best, do you disagree?

Yeah, I do. Hill doesn't have as much time and space in traffic.

Re: David Mundy will not be heading to the Gold Coast

Mundy, Hill, Broughton, Mora were the biggest differences.

Our record with Mundy in the team is way below 50% wins. Nice stat.

Yeah, I do. Hill doesn't have as much time and space in traffic.

Yeah nah. Shows how much you know about football talent. If Mundy could run from half back, dodging 3 or 4 players and kick a goal like Hill has done then I wouldn't have as much issue with him. Hill's best game has beaten Mundy's best. Hill gets the opponent teams best tagger, Mundy gets the other teams loose ball winner playing on him.

All mundy can do is deliver the ball relatively well, he can't run fast, he doesn't regularly get ball (in midfield terms), he doesn't defend well. He has more weaknesses than positives when played in the midfield.

Mundy played 22 games this season. The only two games he miss we lost. Did we have less than 11 wins? I can't recall.

But Hill averages only 17 possessions?

Who did Ling play on on Friday night?

Yet when he plays full time midfield, we win 14 matches. And a final!

Re: David Mundy will not be heading to the Gold Coast

Similar.

Mundy played 22 games this season. The only two games he miss we lost. Did we have less than 11 wins? I can't recall.

Check mundy's career win/loss ratio.

But Hill averages only 17 possessions?

Yes, Hill is in second year but his BEST game has been better than Mundy's best. Mundy is a more reliable performer than Hill though currently.

Who did Ling play on on Friday night?

Mundy until Pavlich went in the center. Ling couldn't play on Hill because he's too slow, he can only handle slow mids like Mundy/Pavlich/etc.

Re: David Mundy will not be heading to the Gold Coast

Really? I thought it was weaker? No Palmer, Hasleby back from knee reco as the main mid, no Bell, Carr, Black, McManus, a bunch of first year players.

Check mundy's career win/loss ratio.
But he didn't play midfield for most those years.

Yes, Hill is in second year but his BEST game has been better than Mundy's best. Mundy is a more reliable performer than Hill though currently.

Hill's upside is much higher. If he can perfect his inside game he'll be one of the best in the league.

Mundy until Pavlich went in the center. Ling couldn't play on Hill because he's too slow, he can only handle slow mids like Mundy/Pavlich/etc.

How did Mundy get 30 possessions? I mean, with his low fitness base, with Ling on him for at least part of the game, that should be freaking impossible.

Re: David Mundy will not be heading to the Gold Coast

just noticed after the game on friday night mostly all of the players went up and hugged mundy...signs of a move maybe?

Seeing as Pavlich spent close to 30-40% of the game in the midfield and Mundy had a ball winner on him, it would be easy for him to collect disposals. Ling isn't in form either, pretending it's like ling for 2007 is hilarious. Geelong supporters are upset with his form.

Mundy had a decent game against Geelong, I'm not saying he was shit. But Mundy isn't reliable in what he delivers. You could expect either a 13 disposal game from him or 30. It varies because he is a yoyo and isn't reliable like Barlow/Palmer/etc.

Heard someone call for a red. I agreed.

Sick of every thread turning into a Troll vs Mundy battle.

This Memories V Mundy threads are the low point of the season. :(

Most of us are really happy with Mundy, his workrate and tank are improving every year. Don't want to trade him, else Mems will set his sights on the next target.

We know he's not built like Pav, yet we still want him to stay, go figure.

Re: David Mundy will not be heading to the Gold Coast

Hmmm, but if Mundy is playing on a ball winner - to clarify, whose job it is to win the ball himself - and got 30 possessions head-to-head against a ball-winner from one of the best midfields of the modern era, then shit, Mundy must be one hell of a ball winner!:thumbsu:

Really? Because the stats posted not so long ago showed Mundy usually getting between 19 - 25 which is pretty damn reliable. A hell of a lot more reliable than between 13 and 30 like you suggest, stop making things up.

Re: David Mundy will not be heading to the Gold Coast

There is only 14 months difference in age now.

So if there is only 14 months difference in age now, what was their age difference at birth?

What will the age diffrence be in 2012?

Great minds Dom. Great minds. :D:thumbsu:

Re: David Mundy will not be heading to the Gold Coast

Isn't Mundy's manager that Paul Connors bloke who was Judds manager when Juddy turned his back on the WCE? This has a similar smell to it. Both WA clubs should get nervous about having top class players from Vic who are managed by this bloke. He's a snake.

Re: David Mundy will not be heading to the Gold Coast

The fourteen month age difference between Ablett and Mundy is relevant.

This is the situation

Ablett (aged 26) = 88 Brownlow Medal votes in career
Dal Santo (aged 26) = 81 Brownlow Medal Votes in career
Mundy (aged 25) = ZERO Brownlow Medal Votes in career

Mundy will earn about the same money as Dal Santo if not more. There are dozens of Non-AFL midfielders who could get Mundy's stats if given the chance and would get <$100,000pa if drafted.

Mundy (or his manager) is playing the Jade Rawlings card.

Re: David Mundy will not be heading to the Gold Coast

I wouldn't trade Mundy for Nicky Dal.

me neither. It is a fact different players develop at different rates.
Mundy was our ONLY midfield winner last Friday against one of the best ever midfields. If we lose him we will battle to see finals action next year. Anyone that thinks that he is not an elite midfielder is a complete fool. I hope he wins our Club Champion award which I really think he has a big chance of doing
