Unless i am wrong, Solomon, Hasleby and Thornton will officially come off the list for 2011 + they will start to backend Pav's contract due to Vet List status, so money shouldn't be a problem but the club should be wary of paying him too much. Some good points in this thread, so many that i don't know what to believe. I agree that if Mundy took so long to announce that he inteads to leave that would be disgraceful and i would lose all respect for him as we wouldn't have as much time to organise and suitable trade. However i can't see him being that disrespectful to the club and i think he will stay. Surely he is just milking us for more money because it is not suitable for a player to rush a trade either because they might miss out on going to the club of their choice.

If he does leave on the bright side we will do a trade with Mundy at the peak of his career and a good age so we should get a good return for him. Better for us to retain him though.

If you read the threads properly you will know that is not the case. the problem is the amount of time he is taking with declaring that. We have no problem with players waiting to end of year to secure their full value. But it goes entirely against the club dragging it out post season.

Trade week is fast approaching any player that waits til the last minute is not allowing their existing club sufficient time to negotaite adequate trades - there is much work required in this:
- identifying the required players to fill structure/list gaps
- opening up conversations with other clubs and players/managers
- coming up with suitable trade scenarios

Sure, a lot of this can be done beforehand by assessing which players it may need to happen for. But consider this, wouldn't any player the club seeks to trade in want sufficient time to consider it from their point of view, as Mundy is doing, and not just a couple of days, whereas how many months is it now that Mundy and his management would have been in this process?

This is where "some" players are EXTREMELY selfish and have NO regard for their existing club. I regard Tarrant as having a far greater moral character than Mundy in relation to his club - Tarrant has made his intentions clear to all at the earliest stage and is actively seeking the best outcome for Freo given he is returning to Vic. Mundy is the complete opposite, and it is Freo that is his first AFL club and for which he has been far longer than Tarrant - any respect I had for Mundy has gone.

Trade week is only 2 weeks away.

There's also the outlandish possibility that there are people employed by the Fremantle Football Club who know more about what is happening (and are already working on what next) then those of us who post here. Seriously if there really is an announcement today that's less than 7 days from our last game for the year. That's hardly taking the piss imo.

I will agree that Tarrant did us right by calling it early but I think he also was all but decided and just had to consider any final offers, plus he wasnt playing for weeks now. Maybe Mundy really is weighing up what he wants to do.

Yep, quite possibly true (probably), but there really is nothing to gain from Freo's point of view keeping it under wraps. If that were the case then Freo would have been talking to all and sundry to get some real hype up in Melb (media etc) about a trade to arrange the best deal possible, unless told by Mundy that he only wants to go to one or 2 clubs and not to publicise it until he gets his best deal.

All they said on the news was that an announcement is expected very shortly...nothing about definitely going home

^^^This

West reported yesterday Des was meeting with club officials and expected to announce his retirement within 48 hours (of yesterday).

Could be a presser to announce Mundy is staying.

Why's it got to be about Mundy? Seems like it's just going to be about Headland retiring.

Re: Mundy going home...announcement this morning

Just reported 6pr.....stand by

6pr home of journalistic integrity, and reporter of all good things Freo.

Surely this isn't a smokescreen by Nesbitt and his mates.

Have the Eagles landed in Cancun or wherever they are going for their end of season trip yet?? Which one has flatlined this time???

Come on people, this is part of the Media that were saying Pav was leaving AGAIN!!!

Grain of salt or maybe the Dampier salt flats required here

Classic - LOL

Has the highest probability feel to it

i agree, timing has a lot to do with it, but if taz nominates one club, like it has been suggested in various articles (i know you cant believe everything you read but still), then any "favours" taz may have done for us will go out the window, as our position will be significantly weaker.

Yes and No.

The great thing with the Tarrant situaution is that we don't really have to trade him. He's worth a pick between 25 and 35 (or a player of similar worth) and if that's not on the table then it's f*** off Chris and enjoy retirement. No point making a rival significantly stronger for pick 50.

What is this crap that the moron who is Military Man is spouting on the Bay??

Something about Haselby saying on some FM channel that Mundy is leaving for Victoria due to family reasons.

Confirmation?? Or bullshit?

Sorry was in transit to Mandurah when I heard this Peter Vlahos news on 6pr just after 6am....basically said all but confirmed that Mundy looks set to head back to Victoria following massive offers by Essendon & Richmond for his services & Freo could not offer anywhere near the $$$ they were putting up. Said announcement likely very soon....whatever that means

This mundy stuff is good for this forum as it allows us real supporters to see other so called supporters who put players before the club. Now if Mundy ends up leaving they will do their normal "backflip" on him. Bookmark it.

If he does announce he is leaving, id say our premiership window may close unless we can trade for another gun midfielder. We cant rely on Barlow holding our midfield together next year, which means Pav will go in the middle, which means no forward line etc etc.

Essendon or Richmond's first rounder + a player would be perfect.

its not like the guys ablett.

very very good footballer but i trust the coaching staff will recruit to replace him more than effectively.

Mundy holding our midfield together? Oh people have some weird delusions. Barlow was a rookie, holding our midfield together, and he should be better next year. Unlike Mundy Barlow ran for 4 quarters and covered defensive holes.

Barlow/Palmer/Broughton
Hill/Mora/Crichton

Is not that bad. The top 3 all can win plenty of ball. However we still need a new ball winner to cover injuries and just provide a better balance. We'd be sitting pretty if we had recruited both Rich and Hill in 2009.

Given the likely target clubs, someone like Sewell/Lewis/Young/Walker may be making the move.

yep, and we really aren't in our "premiership window" (hate that term) yet - another year or 2 of development and some decent drafts/trades in and we could have a very long period of sustained success.

i agree that our biggest chance is 2012 and beyond, next year collingwood should be too strong anyway, so with barlow back, if we could draft one more to extract the footy then we will be ok.

big loss in terms of immidiate future but not impossible to cover.

he did it ever since Barlow went down. We dont know if Palmer is actually going to improve. He had an average start to 2009, got injured, and hasnt looked the same ever since.

palmer just finished his first full year after an ACL, you dont come back and play the same way as you did before, plus he wasnt fit for alot of the year remember.

get a full preseason into him and he will be better than ever.

Yeah, recruiting Scully and Trengove on top of that wouldn't hurt either, would it?

It actually would have been quite easy to get both Rich and Hill, both WA boys in 2009 had we "played youth" and traded correctly. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending upon your outlook) that didn't happen and we are stuck with an incomplete midfield. Even if Mundy stayed we don't have a top 4 midfield, we need to get another A class ball winner in there.

Just think about our midfield if Barlow wasn't an instant success this year. Just think about how it would look if we didn't have the Barlow miracle. He pretty much saved Harvey's career at Freo, one player, and a rookie at that.

Mundy will be a small loss to our midfield but it means we can get a midfielder that is a better suit for us anyhow. At least in theory. I guess I'll wait and see who they get. We really need another midfield miracle if we want to be top 4 next year.

Has he ever copped a "hard" tag? I know Ling went to him last week but that match was effectively over after 15 minutes so no need for physical intimidation. Barlow was copping the attention for the first half of the year and then it was Hill so I can't recall Mundy really being tested. If Mundy does leave he'll be the obvious match up for McPhee at either Richmond or Essendon and I can't see him being able to handle it.

Yeah those 4 wins and 6 losses after Barlow went down is Mundy holding the midfield together? When Barlow was in it was what? 10 wins 4 losses? Barlow >>>> Mundy. Barlow is our best midfielder.

Palmer will improve, he has the Cousins type training attitude. Just needs the tank again, he was top 50 in the AFL for clearances with only 60% game time.

Broughton will hopefully move there and he looks ready to hit A class next year.

We just need one more midfielder close to Barlow's level and ability..... where will he come from....
