Yeah, nah. Not up for tallying all of those criteria. Particularly given the criteria I used for the list build. So stealing some inspiration from another board doing a similar game... Thinking this might be a fair way of deciding a winner at the end of the season.
An aggregate score of each of these honours. The highest scoring team's coach will be crowned the winner of competition and claiming bragging rights until potentially starting from scratch before the 2026 season and going again.
- Games Played: 1 point per game (including games "played" as the sub) - Maximum 450 points total (22x22 = 484 so you should have some leeway, especially with your emergency substitute)
- Brownlow Medal- 1st place - 20 points, 2nd place - 18 points, 3rd place - 16 points, 4th place - 14 points, 5th place - 14 points, 6th place - 12 points, 7th place - 10 points, 8th place - 8 points, 9th place - 6 points, 10th place - 4 points.
- All Australian: 15 points for team, 5 points for squad
- Coleman Medal: 10 points for 1st place, down to 1 point for 10th place in the goal kicking list.
- Club B&F: 10 points for 1st place, down to 1 point for 10th place
- AFL Player Ratings: 15 points for 1st ranking on the official website, down to 1 point for 15th.
- AFLCA Coaches Award: 20 points for 1st place, down to 1 point for 20th place
- AFLPA MVP Award: 1st place - 15 points, 2nd place - 10 points, 3rd place - 5 points
- Norm Smith Medal: 15 points
- 22under22: 5 points for team
- Premiership Player: 5 points for each
Each participant would be held accountable for tallying up their own totals and presenting them at the end of the year. In good faith I'd hope there would be no fudging of numbers so we can get a rightful winner without having to double check everyone's tallies.
Only 22 players on your team are eligible for acquiring points.
In regards to your 23rd member - The emergency sub. You can choose to replace a member of your team with this player when doing your tallies. For instance, in my team I had Ed Allan as my sub, if he has a great year and I feel like he's more chance to tally points than lets say a Tom Mitchell, I can switch him in and bench Tom Mitchell.
If you have a long term injury(6weeks plus) to a player, eg - Nic Newman earlier this week. You can make an additional selection as coverage by announcing to the group your plans to and the player you've picked to take their place (From the players left on the board). However, you may only have 23 players in a team at any one time, so if you do choose to replace an injured player, their points at the end of the year will no longer be eligible for you to acquire and are essentially axed from your team, so choose wisely (Must be a like for like player, so no midfielders coming in for KPFs etc).
Yes that is a concern, I probably would have chosen the elite mids over KPDs with this criteria in mind. I'll have a look at how I could tweak it to balance it out.Doesn't exactly reward team balance. The awards are all midfielder focussed.

Thinking I need to add that the exercise and experience was greatly enhanced by not having criteria in place. The individuality of the “coaches” came through quite clearly, despite some selections being dictated to by availability (and depth of research). I learned a little about virtually all of my fellow players and found it somewhat enlightening as to the depth of knowledge.
Would love another iteration in the future and even more so an extension of this if enough participants are still around.
You're probably right. Scrap the criteria stuff then! I had a lot of fun making the team in my own vision without worrying about brownlow votes etc.Yeah, it was better with no criteria, as our own vision of how to build a side came to the fore, and we all had different tactics.

Should this thread be locked? Might force more traffic to the presentation/poll threadI'll just make a poll on the presentation thread. We can vote and other forum members can vote.
We know it's all subjective so it's a bit of fun.

I like that idea but here's another idea also...I'll just make a poll on the presentation thread. We can vote and other forum members can vote.

In addition to that, perhaps for those who want to can critique one team every couple of days? I.e. we can start with ITCHY EYEBALLS and for those who want to give their opinion can do so. A couple of days later it can be bradfisher14 whose team we can critique...
I considered doing a short summary of all teams at once but that would take far too long but I reckon if we did one team every couple of days, more of us would be willing to give their opinion when they're able to.
I mean we can critique each other's team... no way would I expect anyone not involved in the comp to give their insights. We haven't had any comments from non-participants in that thread yet. I'm not sure that anybody will engage in something they didn't participate in. It's now or never really. Throw up a poll, encourage them to vote in the title and not put any restrictions on them.
This was fun for us and we took ownership of our sides and became draft gurus for a week. For others, there is nothing more than a passing interest in what we were doing.
I'll allow multiple selections to be made in the poll. Hopefully we will get a few comments if/after they vote.
Having said that, we should all help build the thread by commenting on each other's sides.

There's only 18 of us posting in here. I'd say the behind the scenes tweaks, future ponderings, in-jokes etc can stay here, and the actual team comments and analysis (if any) from outsiders can have their space on the other thread.
If votes are cast from newly-created accounts ferrisc, ferrisd, ferrise... I deny all knowledge and association...I'll just make a poll on the presentation thread. We can vote and other forum members can vote.
