With coniglio, I think it was the last straw, I think Cameron backed him to the hilt early, missed training sessions and poor form, lack of outward leadership to team mates, I think he wanted the title of captain, but is he a natural leader, I don't think so.
In saying that, I don't know how you can drop your captain for poor form, then put him in the team the next week, when he hasn't played, what's the point of dropping him

I think the giants deserve a rocket how they played last year, but we saw very little tactics from Cameron to try turn it around, other than wanting cogs to "play on his toes" there was nothing about ball movement or setup in any of his meetings, also appeared that Jase McCartney is a witches hat, he contributed nothing to any meeting

This has been a brilliant documentary, so well done. We have thoroughly enjoyed it, gave us a whole different view of some people/clubs..

Have decided Leon Cameron is not a good coach, his players are miserable, he humiliates them in front of others, and as for Coniglio, he is not captain material, seems to nice and gentle with no mongrel about him. We felt he got a raw deal from Cameron....in fact I had a few tears for him in the part where he got dropped. GWS are in trouble under the current coach imo.

Just love Eddie Betts and his crazy happy family!

Finally after all these years, the SUNS have got the right coach. Stuey Dew is doing a great job, his young players will play for him and want to stay. The SUNS will be ok.

NicNat reminded me of Nick Kyrgios.....love/hate.

Rory Sloan is a good captain, Nicks seems ok too. They'll bounce back.

Richmond? nothing has changed, still feel there is an arrogance about them, but you need that a bit to be a great team. Certainly seem to be a well run club. Don't like Hardwick and his smarmy smirks .

Will watch episode 7 tomorrow..

Honestly don't see how anyone can defend Cameron, surely even the most staunch GWS supporter watches this and can see how appalling his communication style is. Absolutely no respect or relationship with the players, burns Coniglio in public at every turn - when clearly it doesn't help Coniglio - and says a whole lot of words without saying anything at all, you can see players zone out. He also swears an unnecessary amount to try to add passion or something, but fails.

Compare Dew coaching a struggling side to Cameron, Dew's players hang off every word he says and you see how engaged they are in him. He uses half the words Cameron does, and says twice as much. I've long thought GWS should move Cameron on, and everything I've seen just further entrenches that feeling. They're going absolutely nowhere with that guy as coach.

I feel a bit worse for Coniglio, I think he was thrown in without any real experience in the role or support from the Coach, and clearly his form was distracting him from being able to be the leader he wants to be. Seems like a nice enough guy, but hasn't grown in to the role yet. That Leap of Faith stuff was pretty cringeworthy, like he'd watched some course on leadership and thought it was the right thing to do, but didn't resonate with the playing group aside from Shaw trying to do his thing.

Hardwick & Dew come across as very good, clear, concise communicators to me. Players know exactly what it is that's expected of them, and they both strike a good balance between nurturing the players and demanding more of them when it's not been good enough.

Most impressive for me is Dew. You expect Hardwick and Simpson to be good coaches, and they are, but Dew I never really 'got' why he was rated so highly. Now I do. Gold Coast look rock solid internally under him.

Nicks & Teague seem ok, we probably didn't get to see enough of them to really have a strong opinion.

I like Nic Nat, has a bit of swagger but also seems a pretty decent bloke.

Sloane impressed me, figured he'd be a decent guy but seems a quality leader.

Eddie Betts is just Eddie, already said it, but he really is a great human being.

Hopefully we go around again this season and follow a few different sides; I'd love to see a glimpse of a rebuilding + new coach at North & Essendon, Geelong in a clear all-in Premiership push, plus Brisbane and Fagan I think would be a good one.

Too many posts didn’t read... but don’t have Amazon prime but a friends managed to get copies and give them to me on a usb.

Looking forward to checking it out. What are the chances that Amazon don’t stop at just
Making these documentaries, and grow their hat into ring as a broadcaster.. would really kill off uncle rups foxtel

That last half hour as a Tiger is just immense. I'm so proud and thankful for what Dimma, the Team, and Benny Gale have done.

Enormous respect for Brendon Gale back in 2010. YOU DID IT Brendon.. You ******* did it! While the media and the rest of the football landscape laughed, he laughs lasts.

What I took out of the series is that Rory Sloane is a great leader.. I'd follow him. And Adelaide are on the right track with him and Nicks in charge.

Eddie Betts is a great human as well as a brilliant footballer, and very happy to see him get another year. His enthusiasm is contagious I wish him nothing but the best (except when playing us.. he often tore us apart).

Stephen Coniglio. This is difficult. The guy had so much pressure put on him and it seemed like his coach threw him under the bus. It appeared he had no support and Leon made an example of him. Not really impressed with Leon Cameron's management system, and feel for Cogs. Looks lke a guy trying to do the right thing, but not supported enough by club and coach.

Loved Stewie Dew.. Almost looks stoned sometimes, but reckon he has that connection. Suns are gonna be a force soon.

NicNat... meh, party on dude.

Richmond, and Dimma, are undoubtedly the Mercedes of this competition right now.

This is actually pretty similar to how I feel. I realise its tough watching small snippets, but my major takeaways (5 episodes in):

  1. Adam Simpson and Leon Cameron seem similar - Ranting and raving and swearing and with Simpson a bit of superiority complex.
  2. I hate how Cameron treats his players.
  3. Cogs seems a different cat that's for sure, but i like him alot.
  4. Rory Sloane is a good bloke and players love him. Perhaps should have been skipper sooner? Their coaching staff though (Nicks aside) look completely clueless, especially Godden.
  5. Stewy Dew is a star. Like Hardwick, super calm and composed and very methodical. Show real love for their players. Process is so important to them both.
  6. Nic Nat - just a funny entertaining dude. Similar to Eddie Betts. Very hard not to like them both.

first episode in, pretty meh so far - but then again im pretty over Covid and can see its going to be all about that...

From the first epiode:
1. 'Take a knee' at the giants.....would just about make me leave the club for another one....**** that shit
2. Good to see some beers after the game, not sur due to covid but still good to see they can let their hair down
3. **** covid bores the shit out of me

Only seen the first eps, it’s not that exciting, but still nice to get a small insight into some of the clubs.

Eddie Betts: just seems like a lovely bloke, really kind and the way he treats the talk around racism is really mature.

Rory Sloane: Again seems like a really nice dude, and looks like a fantastic leader too.

Loved the West Coast boys having a few beers after the round 1 match when covid halted the season, you rarely see that, and shows that teams do wind down and relax like they should be able to.

Dew and Hardwick the most impressive coaches for me, wish we had one of them.

Hope some other clubs can get on board if they do make more episodes in the future.

So as a cat fan, do I really want to watch episode 7?
I’ve just finished ep4 and I don’t like what might happen.
So far I’ve felt bad for the crows, happy with the GC start, hoping cogs improves and Eddie is easy to like but not sure his game against the cats where he dominated and made a match winning tackle should make me do even a half smile.

If I watch this and meant to feel happy that the Tigers win a flag, the remote is going through the TV.

You really should watch it as there's a touching moment when Chris comes into the Richmond box and asks for a job.

Dimma says "Negated your game mate. Enjoy your ****in slide."* lel

*Great game mate. You're a ****in good side

Have you watched the seventh episode?

It ended in triumph and glory rather than the misery of all other clubs, cause all others were miserable with no redeeming bit of growth other than Adelaide winning a game.

- Eagles sh*t the bed
- GWS disaster
- Adelaide Rock bottom
- Gold Coast lost like 14 in a row
- Carlton, well... are Carlton

You NEEDED one triumph in a sport doco that followed 1/3 of the competition.

I do agree they didn't necessarily need Richmond
- St Kildahe
- Brisbane
- Geelong

Could have had a great effect too, but by episode 7, you really needed Richmond or else the series would have fallen flat
Yeah ive watched the whole thing. 'Winning' wasnt the premise of the documentary, rather following the journeys of 6 people and their clubs. The documentary wouldve been fine if no one had one. They shot over 2,500 hours of footage and only used 7.5 hours, im sure they couldve developed other story lines if they needed too.

I don't know about Cogs being "thrown in".

The word about Cogs was that he desperately wanted the captaincy.
They even offered to share it and it was reported he wanted to be the only captain.
Was a big carrot offered to him when he was up for a contract renewal.

Just doesn't seem like a natural leader to me.

Could well and truly be the case, plus having a big juicy new contract signing coincide with being giving the Captaincy is very convenient timing.

Definitely doesn't come across as a natural leader, not in the Selwood / Hodge / N. Reiwoldt sense. He might be a good player, train well, and be a nice bloke, but seems to be way too caught up in reading leadership books and thinking that stuff automatically applies, when the connection with the playing group just doesn't seem to be there, and seems to lack any real guidance from senior figures at the club who should be able to offer guidance, like Cameron or the CEO / GM. There's a scene where (I think) Ward talks to him about a half-time speech he gives, and tells him that's a good job, which is literally the only genuinely helpful and positive feedback he gets in the entire series in regards to his leadership.

For a guy where leading a team doesn't appear to come naturally, where's the support to learn and improve? Cameron is a woeful role-model, and seems to offer no actual support or guidance anyway.

Loving it. Never seen access like this. Anyone saying it's boring just arent big footy fans and should go watch some Michael Bay instead.

Key take aways so far.

Simmo and Cameron love to say **** 😂😂 difference between the two though is Simmo has rapport with his players. Hes swearing at the world rather than at them. Cameron came off really bad in this.

Nic Nat is a rockstar. Confirmed everything we already knew. Good bloke who loves a laugh.

Dew is a good coach. I like him. GC are in good hands.

Cogs needs to grow a pair. There is literally zero presense as a leader. No wonder he had a shit 2019. He has zero belief in himself as a captain.

Finished it now (except for the last segment as I don't want to live through that again). I really liked it. I have a newfound respect for Adelaide and The Suns. Stuart Dew, Matthew Nicks, and Dimma are great coaches. I felt for Cogs, really thought Cameron's approach to him was flawed. I just don't think Cameron is that good after seeing that. It was interesting to see how Richmond handled those off-field dramas of 2019 behind the scenes. Rory Sloane is a top bloke and is what a Captain is all about. NicNat is a bit of a character. Overall it was good series.

Have only watched 3 episodes, but feel a few are a bit harsh and to early to jump to conclusion on Coniglio. Yes the statute thing in the middle of the circle is ridiculous, but I recall seeing an AFL doco on the captains around 5 or 6 years ago, and Cotchin was by far the most awkward, and looked far out of his depth compared to Reiwoldt, Pavlich and Murphy. But looked what happened since...

Personally think there is too many clubs. Jumps around a bit to much for me.

That's not how it works any more, in this woke new world of Diversity & Inclusion. The best person doesn't always get the job, it's not purely based on merit.
Companies the world over now have KPIs and quotas to meet when it comes to appointing minorities, and this absolutely includes having more females on boards.
Don't I know it working for the largest public sector department in the country. And, frankly, I'm F sick of it!! We digress, but I don't care if every managerial position is filled by a female, or an aboriginal, or a homosexual, or a cross-dressing member of the Tory Party - I DGAF!! As long as they are the best person for the job!! But no, more often than not they get the job because of quotas not because they are the best person for the job. That's my rant!

Back to the case in point, on this occasion I think Peggy is the best person for the job. And from the little I have seen of Malcolm Speed in the past and from his comments on this program, I'm glad he's not president.

Do all teams hold these weird prayer sessions or just the Eagles?

The boys who are religious get to pray if they want with the chaplin. How is that wierd? Its called being an inclusive club.

2 Episodes in and completely echo these thoughts.

Fantastic viewing and from what others are saying this documentary does not look good for Leon Cameron and I have never rated him from the get go.

You can’t be given the keys to a Lamborghini and persist to take it camping in the bush with a caravan in tow! GWS are never doing a thing with this type of coach.

Youd follow another club if the one you support took a knee?

When NicNat is cleaning his locker out, why was there a farewell note on Vardy's locker? He was offered another contract..

That's a rough joke to pull if someone was trying to be funny..
i think at that point vardy was gonna go if hickey was kept. then that all changed

well when did they tell anything about Geelong, a Grand Finalist!?

only in the very last ep, none that is of upclose indepth footage like the other featured clubs, they could only use match footage + Scott into the coaching box. As I said before, only Rich/WC could carry the story line to the end even if losing the GF. Producers hit jackpot with Richmond winning.

What you want to suddenly switch to indepth look at Bris/Port/Gee ? perhaps yes at the start of the Prelims so that could give them maybe 2 eps.

So 2500 hours of footage and what did Geelong get for upclose stuff ? Virtually nothing. Cat fans please don't let this put you off. I've watched and liked/disliked stuff from other clubs...didn't watch with one eye.

I doubt if they can have camera crews following around all clubs, no budget, and you'd probably just end up with 30s soundbites from each and everyoone for inclusivity sake instead of storylines.
