Part of the cultural overhaul, I guess.
"Guys, you know what can get you even higher than crystal meth? That's right, faith in Jesus!"

Not my thing, but good luck to them!
Yes, was surprised to see some players there, including Nicoski, but there are christians and others amongst us - whatever gets you motivated I suppose.
I'm guessing other clubs have a chaplain as well?

Not sure, but I vaguely recall an interesting story in Ben Cousins' book. He reckons Mark Seaby was a devout Christian who told a team meeting he was saving his virginity for marriage. Apparently Troy Wilson took the piss out of him, and Gardiner cracked it him for being a dickhead to a young player. I'm guessing the team didn't have a chaplain then.

(edited because I got this all wrong- Wilson was the jerk, and Gardiner, not Cuz, stuck up for Seaby)

It goes back a ways. I'm fairly sure Neil Fong was Chaplain in the mid/late 90's and into the 2000's. He even officiated at a few weddings for the players.

Other takeaways of note:

How the f**k L.Cameron still has a job, lest an extension, is beyond me. Stands Coniglio down, receives a WTF from H.Shaw and T.Green and then lies to the playing group that it was Cog's decision to be omitted.

E.Betts is even more likeable than he already was.

M.Rowell is perhaps the most influential 18 year old in the competition's history.

R.Sloane is going to be a very good coach once his playing days are over.

As much as it pains to say it, D.Hardwick is exceptional in his role for the Tigers.

The amount of staff clubs were forced into letting go during 2020 hits pretty hard as well.

Have watched the first episode - the access granted is pretty much as good as it gets, quite impressed so far by it.

Does absolutely no favours to Coniglio and GWS - the disdain in the playing group towards Cogs as captain is something to behold.

Indeed, Coniglio's "Leap of Faith" statue, which is intended to inspire, is truly meme-worthy.

I agree, loving the first episode with all the insights we have been so starved of as fans. It really lets you see why those that gets results, get results.

Coniglio for example, sat back on a chair in the circle and quietly explained his Leap of Faith statue...instead, he should've been standing in the middle, explaining with passion each step in more detail, giving specific examples and inspiring them with the energy required.

Instead, it sounded like he was lecturing a TAFE class on some minor aspect of their course. No real charisma to drive the message through the playing group.

Why don't they like him? I thought he would be well respected as an original squad member and high level player.
I don't think it's they don't like him, he just comes across so bland an uninspiring and didn't sell his little leap of faith well at all.

Match that up with Cameron and I'd be falling asleep and tuned out if I was in any room with them

Yes, Christianity aside, it seems they didn't have much of anything back then in the way of counselling or guidance...the wild west frontier?

it wasn’t Gardiner. It was Troy Williams iirc

Richmond supporter on the MB offended that Nata and some of the boys had a beer after the shut down for C19 was announced.
They shoulda gone to a strip club and got into a fight at a kebab joint instead

The world as we knew it just changed. The lads season just pulled.

A beer is more than acceptable.

Clearly hasn't played a game of football in his life. He'll have a heart attack when he finds out that happens at every club after every game.

I'm only a couple of eps in but really enjoying it. Haven't been able to binge it as we're juggling a crook toddler.

It's a real trip back in time with all the Covid stuff that derailed the start of the season. Simmos attitude around the hub is not ideal, even from before we left. Tried to sell a message to the boys of what an opportunity but himself saying it's crap. Reckon he would've learned plenty from that.

Looking forward to the St Kilda bake. Missus is pretty happy that Simmo swears just like the rest of us, haha.
