OK. So the story of 2006 is Essendon's poor performances. The running subplot to our downfall (it was a long time coming, but it's finally happened) was that we have been linked to every player who has been even slightly wavering in their relationship with their current club. Gardiner, Aker, Rischa, etc.
Avid followers of our successes and failures over the past, say, 3 seasons have realised that the number one hole in Essendon's list is not - as has been mooted time and time again - in ruckmen (Hille, Laycock, Ryder, Cartledge, Bradley) or the so-called "jet" midfielders, where Winderlich, Dyson and Lovett wait eagerly in the wings. The problem with the team representing us this year was mainly in the backline. Fletcher's increasingly common injury niggles meant he (great as he remains) struggled to get a string of games together. Without Fletcher, and with Lucas needed up forward, left us with K Bradley holding down the key defensive post. While I am not for a moment suggesting that we get rid of Keps, as he clearly has some talent when he is allowed to run, he has obviously struggled as the number 1 defender.

What could we do to alleviate this problem? Lee, Lucy and Bradley will be good for us in years to come, however I don't think Lucy will cement his position just yet, and both Lee and Bradley are also a year or two away from coping with the mammoth forwards such as J Brown, Tredrea and Rocca. I would think that, in this particular area of the ground, a quick fix might be just what the doctor ordered? Hence - Mal Michael to Essendon? Does this sound reasonable to anybody else, or am I crazy?
EDIT: ha ha ha I just realized my typo in the subject. Feel free to call me a moron!

Getting on, pretty much exclusively a FB which is Fletcher's position as is, and seems to have lost his passion to play. No thanks.

At first glance, I honestly think he would make a good acquisiton to strengthen our spine, but reading that he wants his training scaled back to accomodate his charity work leads me to think he already is mentally over senior footy. Too risky for my liking. Id only offer him a year performance based at best.

Wouldn't bother, he's over AFL footy now, mentally speaking, and he'd only be holding back Nash, Lee and co.

All true, and I suppose it depends on how far away the powers that be believe Lee, Bradley and Lucy. From what I've seen, Lee and Bradley need a year or two and I've not much idea about Lucy

But... notice how absolutely nothing in any media has linked Michael to Essendon? Doesn't that make you suspicious at all?

yeah but sometime fletch plays on different players ala micahel o'loughlin who arent the tradtional go to man, michael could stand barry hall and j.brown, although id rather someone with youth on their side like a thornton or a polak.

What would you be prepared to offer for T-Bird?
I want Essendon to force him into the PSD with a 4 year contact.

Failing that i would think a straight swap with Laycock COULD be a win for both clubs.
Prolly slightly in our favour though.

Of course i would like to off load Solomon etc etc, but doubt Carlton would take them.

Laycock and a very late pick at the very most, but you never start with your best offer.

Haha sorry Slattery_20 but apart from the beauty of picking Mal Michael when no one else saw it coming:thumbsu:
the rest is gold. Lee, Kepler, Lucy  Nash. To be honest reading this thread scares me a little because it just goes to show youngsters despite showing a bit dont always turn out as you'd hope, but atleast that goes both ways.

Some of you wanted Thornton, good lord was it really that bad? Actually I may thought that was a good idea at the time as wello_O

Lee and Lucy certainly played a lot of bad footy for the club.

Some nice revisionist work there.
