Those who are "over" feminism may wish to look into the story of this amazing young lady. Shot in the head by the Taliban fascists in Pakistan merely for being a girl who wanted an education, not only has she recovered, she is now the worldwide face of the fight for girls to be afforded the opportunity to gain an education. I defy anyone to watch this interview with Jon Stewart and not agree that this brilliant, courageous girl deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.

Had heard about the interview but hadn't watched it until now. It's a pretty amazing perspective on the world that she has!

I'd love to marry a Muslim woman. What incredible creatures they are to put up with Muslim men.

You could bang five times a day, then pray.

Have met quite a few Persian and Arab girls, mostly muslims. As a general rule, they are not anywhere near as subservient as the media would lead you to believe. Very switched on in my experience.

Definitely. Well educated and smoking hot. I've been to Iran and the women were great. The men were super nice too, but the women ... wow!

Nice one, I've always wanted to go there. Those girls have the best eyes in the world.

Also, my dream woman:

That's President Ahmadinejad. Could you imagine the guts that it took for a woman in Iran to do that?

Ballsy!

I'm actually going back there in about 3 weeks. I really love the place. If you ever get the chance go! You won't regret it.

And re: eyes, it's unfortunate but if you walk down the streets of Tehran you won't see many of the stereotypical Arab/Persian eyes - nowadays most of them shave their eyebrows off and then draw pencil thin ones on. Luckily the girl I'm staying with keeps hers natural, and yep - they look great :D

I've heard its very safe and the language is easy to pick up (I can speak a couple of sentences, that's it). Crime is mostly the same shit you'll find in europe i.e. pickpockets, maybe burglary etc. but the locals are super friendly?

The Iranians I've met in Australia seem so culturally similar to Europeans, its amazing the difference between what the media/government tell you about a country, and the reality/history of a place.

Eival! Khayli kami farsi sohbat mikonam.

If you ignore the alphabet, the basics are pretty easy to pick up. The locals are ridiculously friendly and curious, it's a really welcoming place and guests are treated extremely well. There's some crime but no more than anywhere else ... I lost my iphone in a taxi and it was returned to me!

My parents were both born there and I've been there a half dozen times. Can't say much about the language from the outside as I was taught it from birth. Iranians as a whole are very courteous and welcoming though so you definitely won't feel markedly out of place.

Some absolutely breathtaking sights to see.

Yeah I want to get there before Israel/US destroy it. the ancient architecture (especially in Shiraz) looks amazing in photos, but its also the environment (got to be wary taking photos near the borders though) that I'm keen to see.

It used to be very common for western backpackers to travel through Iran and Afghanistan, kinda sad that it doesn't happen as much anymore.

Merci

Just sayin that had a young girl stood up to the hostile natives in this country 200 years ago, she would of been looked at in the same light.

Wtf does that have to do with THIS thread?

The thread is about Malala isn't it?

She's a very brave girl, but the only reason we know of her story at all is the western media have decided it's worth following.

Whereas many of her own fellow citizens really, really want her dead. That's her home reality.

Sorry if I've burst your balloon.
