Last Night on Talking Footy Malcolm Blight announced his All-Australian team:

B – Johnson, Silvagni, Gaspar
HB – McKay, Fletcher, Hardwick
C – Camporeale, Ratten, Buckley
HF – Hird, Carey, McLeod
F – Farmer, Lloyd, Harvey
Rucks – Barnes, Koutifidies, West
Interchange – King, Kemp, O’Loughlin, Hay

Personally, i agree with a few positions but some i dont understand how he came to the conclusion:
McKay?? He has not had that good a season
Gaspar?? in the back pocket
Silvagni?? Fletcher has been twice as good and Koutifidies should of been half-back
Hay?? good season and all but there have been many better key position backmen in the competition
Ratten?? He has got plenty of disposals but i dont think he is quite an all-australian.

And the players he left out;
Mercuri?? he's kidding, if Mercuri didn't play for the Bombers he would be right up there for the Brownlow.
Bell?? as for Mercuri except he plays for the 'roos.
Weowodin?? i would have thought someone with the footballing brain of Blight would have put him in the team.

Those are the ones that i think are just blatantly stupid selections that most people would disagree with.

Malcolm Blight is one of the smartest footballing brains going around, and then he puts 4 key position players in the backline. Very little pace back there.

What about Mikey's stupidity in trying to down grade Farmers efforts this year, with those idiotic "damn lies" statistics. Blighty rightly took the knit-wit to task, saying he'd have him in his team anytime.

What's the guy gotta do he's third on the goal kicking with 60 odd just behind fat-boy. He's the best small forward since Bewick was at his peak.

Amazing sometimes the Herald Scum boy.

I agree that possibly Silvagni shouldnt make it at full back, give that to Fletch with Kouta CHB. Ratten in the middle is a good choice as he has been the best midfielder in the comp this year IMO, he is very underrated and does a lot of the hard work.

McKay has had a great season, I dont know what games you are watching, and Mercuri has not been in All Australian form this year.

I did this a little while ago:

B: Yze Fletcher Lappin
HB: M Johnson Koutoufides Woewodin
C: West Buckley Ricciuto
HF: Camporeale Carey Hird
F: B Harvey Lloyd Whitnall
Foll: King Bell Ratten
Inter: J White McLeod Kemp Farmer

I made a few changes though...

I originally had Hamill (I did it only at the start of Farmer's great burst)
Since replaced by Farmer

I originally had no Mark Johnson at all (instead Buckley HBF, Kouta M, Ben Graham CHB).

But I've adapted it based on the last 4 weeks or so...

Matt

Tell you something for nothing, Chicks been the best half back in the league this year. Had a great season. Nothing against Hardwick or either of the Johnsons but if he was at Essendon, one of that trio would be out of the Dons side as Chicky would be taking his place.

hmmm.....big call Grendel,
Both the J's have put up better numbers this year (MJ after getting suspended for one game), and Id rather have a tough nut like Hardwick in my team anyday. He is one of the best players in the game, & not just at that spot.

my completely unbiased 2 bob. ;-)

Whilst I acknowledge that Hird is a great player, has he played enough footy this year to be named All Australian? He seems to have missed a lot of footy. I think these scribes automatically put the big names in without a lot of though. I think Malcolm Blight made a huge oversight by not making room for Andrew Kellaway even it was on the bench, he has had a breakout season this year and should do well in the Brownlow this year.

I do agree there on Andrew Kellaway. He has played well but i think he would still be just a fraction short of all-australian.

But James Hird. Hird has played 17 games. That means hes only missed 4 games. So under your logic, it means anyone who has missed more than 3 games is not under consideration. There goes almost half the team.

Unless I can't read properly I can't beleive that Riccuto has been left out, he must be a Brownlow favorite, also they were singing the praises of Joel Bowden earlier in the year on Talking Footy ( I think he was in the top 10 players in the league in 2 of the 3 lists put out by Blight. Sheahan & Knackers Healy) but nowhere to be seen on the All Australian Team.

Not denying it Arch, but having seen about 7/8 "live" (at the actual game) Dons games this year, and all the Hawks ,well the Victorian ones live and tv for the interstate clashes.

Trust me, in every department Chicky more than matches up with your boys. Right now he would be the most underrated player in the league and its only because he isnt in a higher ranked team. If (god NOOOOO) he played for your lot he would be 1st 18 every week no problem and on the form he has shown for us top 5 in your B&F. He will either win ours or run 2nd to Holland. And people want us to trade him for the likes of Gehrig and Williams??? fffttt to that.

ps and I know how hard Hardwick is. Chick matches him all the way. He is playing like Kelly at his most aggressive at the moment and I cant think of a bigger wrap than that.

Cheers, Grendel.

Grendel

Gotta agree with you re Chick, have seen a few Hawks games this year (my better half is a hawks supporter) and am surprised that he doesn't get the recognition that other players seem to get. Has great pace and stamina which is handy coming of half back. Has had a great year and would pick him up at North at anytime.

ps have you or Shinboners been hearing anything about Capuano and the Hawks? Nothing against the bloke but he doesnt seem to me at least, as the answer to the Hawks rucking problems, thanks.

Grendel

The main rumours at North involve Bell, King, and to a lesser extent, McKernan. There has been no mention of Capuano to the Hawks on the North forum.

The problem with Capuano is that he's injury prone, and so, he hasn't developed the level of skills or consistency that that North would have expected. He can do the job and has played a few very good games, but he's never really grabbed control of a game like some of his contemporaries like Matthew Allen, Jeff White, or Steven King. A few years ago when North were after Ricky Olarenshaw, Sheedy demanded Capuano as part of the trade, but Pagan refused.

You've also got my support on Daniel Chick. He ripped North apart from the half-back flank earlier this season. By the way, do the Hawks fans still do the "Chicky-chicky-chicky-chicky" cry whenever he gets the ball?

Grendel

Capuano for Chick!!!

Sold!!!!

Yes I did hear a whisper a while back but I would guess that it was a case of Hawthorn needing a ruckman and Capuano coming out of contract.

I seriously doubt that North would like to lose Capuano as that would leave our ruck division dependant on a fairly one dimensional Spider Burton and a very inconsistent Corey McKernan with no backup at all. On the other hand the challenge was thrown to Capuano this year to become the #1 ruckman and he hasn't answered - maybe something there after all

Cheers

What about my mate Richardson, after all he will probably finish third for the Copeland.

HHHHHAAAAA

Grendel,
wish I could argue the point more, but Hawthorn tv games seem to be rare over here, and (obviously) i cant get to as many live (vic) games as Id like. So im stranded a bit on that.
However its interesting about the Ricky 4 Capuano trade. Like Shins has said Capuano has been injury prone, which wouldve made him fit in well at Essendon (yuk, yuk), but its a shame Pagan refused it from our point of view. Despite the setbacks, he couldve been a good pick up (well a damn side better than grgic anyway)
