I don't like the part where O'Bree is mentioned as still being in our best team.

In what weird world does O'Bree get a game ahead of any of our young mids if they are fit?

Yeah I don't like the O'Bree, Mick must be seeing something we are not and I don't like what he must be seeing

It's something Mick "has to say" in regards to SOB and our best team. He is not going to rule him out completely, particularly this early on in the season.

However, we all know he is borderline now and questions remain about his ability to be in our best side. His performance against NM on the weekend will indicate whether or not he is still capable of being in our best side because if he doesn't perform, it's an easy replacement at selection next week to make with Sharrod back.

I did like this quote though;

"We were never going to progress as a football club if Nathan Brown and Ben Reid continued to play VFL football." - Mick Malthouse.

Wellingham isn't fit and McCarthy has been dissapointing and giot injured anyway. I personally don't have O'Bree in our best team but this isn't our best team. It's all pretty marginal.

What is most relevant though is the afct if you have players like O'Bree on your list they get games ahea of developing players. If that helps win a flag this year then it's fine but if it doesn't it is delaying development of a player that may later help win a flag.

Get these calls right - win flags.
Get these calls wrong - don't win flags.

I am ok with Lockeyer and Presti being in the best 22 but Obree, WTF?! If malthouse thinks that Obree is better then someone in our current midfield then he is a dead set goose. I like Obree but as a footballer he is finished even at VFL level he is not impressive. I am worried someone like a wellingham or beams mite miss out in the final for obree.

I can just see all three of O'Bree,Lockyer and Leigh Brown being in the team at the end of the year :( Presti is defintely in our best 22 but those three aren't.If we keep on sticking with these guys we'll go nowhere look how well we've been playing without them in the team.

This is nothing more than good ego management by the Silver Fox.

The vets stay focused and motivated because they believe they'll be playing September. The younger players who are in form right now keep working hard to retain the spots. Pure win all round, as long as come September the side is just picked on form.

Tony Pickard is a Collingwood employee now? ;)

Good! We have the depth, we should use it. Rotate players in and out, keep them fresh. I'll gladly lose some H&A games if it means players are fit and fresh come finals time. Half our players were out on their feet and injured against Geelong last year. Lets avoid that scenario and give finals a damn good crack this year.

What would you prefer? Shane isbt really in our best 22, and he nay as well just give up now because at best he's cover, in fact just retire now Shane, at which stage Shane stops trying and we go down a player on our list. Now it probably is true that sob is just injury cover, but if we openly state that, if he plays what disrespect to the opposition and if he feels publicly discarded and quits doesn't help the side if Injuries hit

I have no problems with this at all. Fraser and the boot both could play if needed but also not 100% so why not use our depth with 2 6 day breaks and an interstate trip coming up. O'bree is quality back up too. This guy has been our inside engine for a long time and will be firing to show he still has what it takes

The only issue I have with resting is what if the replacement stars, you can't drop him and what happens to the rested player.

You rarely get to play your so called best team, and that's always too marginal to say anyway. So saying blah blah isn't in our best team is a pretty pointless thing to say because of form, match-ups, injuries etc. It's in our best 28 is what we should talk about. When you start going outside your best 28 that's when there's trouble.
And we bat deeper than anyone. So O'Bree in, O'Bree out wtf does it matter, he's good enough to play some damn quality AFL level footy.
