Impeded play while it was stopped?
He was blocking their space to run and position. That is a a free kick to Carlton. Malthouse has every right to complain about it.

Honestly can't blame him for being irate about the runner because that was absolutely ridiculous.

But he has plenty of form to call him a sook disregarding tonight.

Mick's a sook yes, but he does have a point...TOO an extent. Micks biggest problem is that mick malthouse thinks mick malthouse can do no wrong, if his team loses there's always an excuse.

Umpires
Lucky bounce
Umpires
the players didn't want it enough

where I stopped admiring mick as a coach is when he grilled his own players for not caring enough, Granted i may be wrong but as a coach isn't it his job to make them buy into it? make them give a ****? and if they don't give a ****, why play them? if the blokes a passenger **** him off and bring in a young bloke who WANTS TO BE THERE.

Sheedy went bananas that day, with the jacket, was because of Malthouse and his sooking in the box. His comments after losing at ANZAC day in 09 was a disgrace. Then to bring up the Lappin thing, he wasn't asked he put it out there early on .. and had a sook about Menzle.

This is a man who only won one flag despite have the biggest spending footy department for over a decade. This is the man who won two flags with a state side gifted to him, then could not get the side back up there.

Overrated knob. I hope he walks into a wall tonight.

The Eagles were not a state team

Agree with Malthouse being a sook though, not nearly as bad as the Scott brothers though

Won't echo everything op has said - which is unnecessarily slanderous against Mick who is a very good coach. But his complaints about the umpiring was low. the older he gets the more he complains.

The umpiring seemed decent to me. It was not decisive in the match - Carlton were largely better but lacked the poise and class of Geelong. They were unlucky to lose, but they stuffed some chances late in the game, obvious nerves. Mick should be a better looser.

At least he's showing some passion for the club and his role. More than some of the players have over the last few years.

Apart from the brief period of Matty Knights - a decent and honourable man shafted hideously - Essendon haven't had a good bloke in the coaching box for nearly four decades.

Yeah forcing Lloyd to retire was an absolute masterstroke I tell you...seriously...Knights did nothing for us at Senior level!

Are you mentally daft?

Go watch the video for the last two minutes again, it's on the AFL website. Play was stopped and he was passing a message to players, Robinson pushed him. Menzel made the contact.

In the end if Malthouse had any guts he would have focused on three things that really cost Carlton the game. McLean's handball turnover that got the ball rolling for Geelong, Docherty turning the ball over on the wing with a grubber that lead to the blonde guy kicking a goal and McLean not being goal side of Selwood.

Like I said there were free kicks that could have been paid to Geelong in the centre square but they were let go. No point sooking about the ones let go late.

The early Eagles team was with all those priority picks from WA, plus a year or two of hiding talent. Not to mention all the peptides in the early 90s ;-)

You were probably watching another match.

Decent?

They missed a runner who was blocking opposition players, and they were wearing pink.

You're obviously emotional, and that is bluring your judgement. Go and watch the video again .. with an open mind.

He got you to the finals, was building a good list, never brought shame on the club like Sheedy and Hird have.

Malthouse pisses on both Sheedy and Hird.

In fact, I feel bad mentioning his name in the same sentence as those two frauds.

Hmm maybe commentary is important - the sound was muted on my TV

I still don't think the match was determined by umpiring blunders

Yes and what happened in the finals again? Was a record loss! The bloke was a great developmental coach but he was not and never will be a tactician that was good enough for a senior gig!

To be fair tonight he has a point...Menzel was taken in a coat hanger 15 m out right in front and as per usual the umpires never pay a free kick in the last few minutes. I wish the umpires do their job for the whole match, not for 90%.

Mick was right about the guy who had his head ripped off, if it was Bartel dropping his knees and diving forward into the arms of an opposition player the umpires would have blown the whistle. They shit their pants and weren't prepared to give Carlton a free kick in the last minute of the game.

EXACTLY!

I'm glad someone else said it.

Spot on and this is what frustrates fans. It isn't the fact that frees are paid or not paid. It is the fact that for 110 minutes they umpire it one way and for the last 10...you get away with elbows, head highs, deliberate out of bounds, holding the ball....you name it. That is what is making the game hard to watch sometimes!

Geelong are running on fumes that smell like umpires farts at the moment.
