It's official. Malthouse sacked

(As with most big new stories, we'll leave this thread up and not merge it into the mega-thread to be lost 100 pages down. - Chief)

Mick Malthouse sacked by Carlton, club meeting called after explosive radio interview

Carlton has sacked coach Mick Malthouse after a meeting between club directors and executives on Tuesday afternoon.

Malthouse spoke on SEN radio on Tuesday morning, claiming his future was out of his hands and that boards sack coaches when they crack under pressure.

On Monday, the club had released a statement to its members saying a decision would be made regarding Malthouse's future in two weeks' time, after the round-10 match against Adelaide and ahead of the club's bye.

But Malthouse's comments on radio appeared to antagonise the Carlton board with executives calling a lunchtime meeting in response to the coach's outburst.

Hurricane Trigg strikes again.

Football media bloodlust claims another victim. I guess their attention will turn to Justin Leppitsch or Rodney Eade now. Lucky both coaches are slightly sheltered from the glare in Queensland.

Hopefully he can enjoy retirement now (being serious) and get away from our train wreck of a club.

Disgusting. At a time when Carlton needed to show some resolve, they folded like Jack Watts at the thought of physical contact.

What an absolute rabble.

Like your team did with Hird?

Loada rubbish. He had to go for thumbing his nose at management, not to mention list management, poor team selection. Sheeit, arranging Daisy Thomas' superannuation should have been enough to sack him alone

“I shouldn’t say this in front of the cameras, but it’s very, very difficult to see where we’re going to lose a game,” Malthouse said to much applause.
